Fujifilm X-T4 Firmware 1.20 Released

Fujifilm has finally released the Fujifilm X-T4 firmware 1.40 that the Fuji Guys inadvertently leaked last week.

A new firmware for Fujifilm X-H1 should be released shortly, too. It fixes an annyoing IBIS bug when the X-H1 is used with the brand new Fujinon XF70-300mmF4-5.6.

Also, recently Fujifilm released firmware updates for Fujifilm X-T3, GFX50S and GFX50R as well as for X-E4, X-S10 and X-A7.

Down below the full details for X-T4 firmware 1.20.

Ein Beitrag geteilt von Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (@kensingtonroyal)

Once or twice a year, we like to share a little curiosity roundup, looking at famous people who shoot Fujifilm or to look at ads or movies where Fujifilm cameras pop up.

Today we have a few additions, starting with the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, who also shoots Fujifilm, more precisely a nice silver vintage Fujifilm X-T3, as you can see on instagram here. She joins other royals like the King of Sweden.

But maybe we guys should start a gofundme campaign to buy her a new sync conncetion cover ;)

And since we talk curiosities….

The Leica Store in Germany filmed their Leica Q2 Monochrom presentation with a Fujifilm camera (see video below).

BCN Ranking 2020 vs 2019: Fujifilm Resists Best to COVID-19 and Nikon Suffers

The BCN ranking for the year 2020 has been published. BCN collects data of about 40% of the Japanese electronics and online stores.

Every camera company lost sales compared to 2019, however, Fujifilm did best, getting very close to 2019 in terms of sales thanks to the excellent sales of the Fujifilm X-T4, the Fujifilm X-S10 and the Fujifilm X100V. The only flop of 2020 was the Fujifilm X-T200, which is in my opinion the single best entry level camera you can get, but sadly it did not get the success it deserved.

This confirms what a Fujifilm managers already hinted here: Fujifilm did better in 2020 than other brands.

Now let’s look at the data.

New Fujifilm Camera FF200002 Registered on January 31, 2021, and Why It’s a Curious Case (X-E4)

FR-reader Kent (thanks), just informed me that he spotted the registration made on January 31, 2021, of a new Fujifilm digital camera with the code name FF200002.

The strange thing here is, that in terms of registrations we had two registered cameras recently:

  • FF200001 registered Sept. 2, 2020 = X-S10
  • FF200003 registered Dec. 14, 2020 = GFX100S

It was just a matter of time until the FF200002 would appear, and it did so on January 31 at the launchstudio bluetooth registration page here.

So which camera is the FF200002?

The answer is: the Fujifilm X-E4!

I know that, because I have watched countless of youtube videos about the X-E4, and in one of them I noticed that when the screen was flipped out, on the backside of the camera you could read “FF200002“.

But it’s strange: the X-E4 is the first camera that gets registered after it has been announced. We told you in this article that it Fujifilm usually registers cameras from 1 to 6 months ahead of announcement.

Well, I guess this means from now on we have to count also with the possibility, that Fujifilm will announce cameras without them appearing first on some sort of registration website. But don’t worry about that, I will let you know in advance anyway what will come ;).

So let’s update our original article, where we illustrate the time span between registration and announcement of new Fujifilm gear:

  • registered 1 month before announcement = 4 cameras (X-T2, X-E3, X-T100, X-T30)
  • registered 2 months before announcement = 3 cameras (X-T20, X100F, XF10)
  • registered 3 months before announcement = 3 cameras (X-T3, GFX50R, GFX100)
  • registered 6 months before announcement = 2 cameras (X-H1, X100V)
  • registered 4 days after after announcement = 1 camera (X-E4)

Fujicast Interview with Fujifilm Manager: X-S10, GFX100S, R&D Choices, Instax Wide Printer and More

Here is the summary of part 2 of the Fujicast interview (part 1 here) with Fujifilm Manager Andreas Georghiades :

  • X-S10 was more expensive at launch than the X-T3, but the X-T3 was an older product when the X-S10 was launched and there were promotions on the X-T3
  • there are people who like DSLR’s and want to go smaller mirrorless camera, and the X-S10 is a great camera for them as it has a PSAM dial. Then there are rangefinder lovers (X-E, X-Pro) and others want individual dials (X-T4 etc)
  • X-S10 is targeted to attract new users in the Fujifilm system
  • for pure photographic orientated people, there are X100V, X-T3, X-Pro3 etc
  • there was a gap, and the X-S10 fills that
  • he does not know of an Instax Wide Printer, but he’d love to have one too
  • When it comes to making decisions (such as if implement vary angle screens or not etc), they get their feedback from various sources. From X photographers, camera reviewers, traditional press, youtube reviewers
  • at the end you can’t make everybody happy, some will always complaint. For example, the GFX100S has lower res EVF compared to GFX100, but it’s also much cheaper. But some complaint and wanted a cheap camera with the super-resolution EVF of GFX100
  • compromises need to be made sometimes
  • if you want X-T4 performance on a more photo centric camera, there is the X-T3
  • Fujifilm can’t please everyone
  • Brexit won’t have additional costs on repairs, but there might be delays initally
  • the Fujifilm UK X-Thusiast program won’t be extended to USA
