When I shared the rumor that Fujifilm will release another f/1.4 prime in 2021, the comment section exploded with 300 comments about dreams and wishes what it could or should be.
Today I was reading through your comments, and truly enjoyed the vivid discussion.
But when I arrived to the end of it, I realized that while it’s fun and nice to watch ahead and see what the future might bring us in terms of gear, sometimes it’s also worth to stop for a moment and look back at what we already have.
So, today, I’d like to bring back the attention to five Fujinon XF lenses that I call “forgotten“, but not because people don’t own and love them, but just because they have slipped under the radar overrun by the buzz about the latest and greatest and therefore don’t get the coverage they’d deserve anymore.
So FujiRumors would like to bring back balance in the Fuji Universe and gives to 5 lenses the revival they deserve.
Viltrox has released firmware updates for their 23mmF1.4, 33mmF1.4 and 56mmF1.4.
You can find all details and download links below.
Matt Granger tested the brand new Fujifilm GFX100S along with the Fujinon GF80mmF1.7.
Here are his thoughts from his various videos covering it.
Fujifilm General Manager Takashi Ueno said at the virtual CP+ convention 2021 that Fujifilm will release “many mirrorless X and GFX lenses this year“.
Well, the start in 2021 was fantastic, with the following three lenses launched:
But that is apparently not enough for 2021.
FujiRumors already told you to forget about the XF35mmF1.4MKII. That’s rocksolid multiple confirmed from several trusted sources.
What will still come for sure are:
We also know Fujifilm is also working on a Fujinon XF150-600mm, but that one should come in 2022. Of course FujiRumors is investigating and making constant progress on the rumor front, so expect updates soon.
In the meantime, down below is a summary of Fujifilm’s CP+ online talk.
A few days ago, DPReview has added the Phase One XF IQ4 150 Megapixel camera to their studio test scene database.
So how does this $50,000 monster compare to our humble Fujifilm GFX100 (and hence also to the brand new $6,000 Fujifilm GFX100S)?
Well, I don’t know you, but I frankly can’t see any noticeable difference, in some cases I even think the GFX100 looks better.
At high ISO on the other hand, the GFX100 clearly performs better than the Phase One XF IQ4, even though the sensor is the same (just cut bigger on the Phase One).
This might be in part merit of the excellent Fujinon GF lenses, which have no issue to take advantage of all 100 megapixels offered by the GFX100(S). On the other hand, it might also be that both cameras just resolve basically everything possible out of the DPR studio scene.
I did also add the two current highest resolution mirrorless full frame cameras to the comparison, the 61MP Sony A7RIV and the 47MP Panasonic S1R to the chart.
Where both medium format cameras simply have no issues to resolve everything out of the chart, we can see that the full frame cameras definitely show up with more false colors, moiré and artifacts in the fine details.
Just for fun I added one comparison with the Fujifilm X-T4 vs Sony A7RIV and Panasonic S1R.
Of course the Sony and Panasonic have more resolution power, but when details become really fine, and hence when all those megapixel would be really needed, in some areas the Sony A7rIV as well as the Panasonic S1R have the tendency to show more moiré, partially ruining the megapixel advantage they have, where the X-T4 shows no moiré.
As an X-Trans lover, I do hope Fujifilm will stick with it in their APS-C cameras and offer us something around 32+MP or so in the future, maybe with the Fujifilm X-H2. I am sure it would give great results.
Down below you can see some of the screenshots I took. You can head over to the DRP studio comparison tool and make your own comparisons.

Back in November 2020, we reported how Sigma was vaguely hinting that something might possibly come for Fujifilm in 2021.
But since it was very vague, I did contact trusted sources and investigated further. They confirmed in December 2020 here, that Sigma lenses for Fujifilm X mount might indeed be scheduled for 2021.
Yesterday Sigma fueled speculations again, by saying on their official media channels:
Let’s start the week with a mini-roundup dedicated to the latest and greatest Fujifilm gear.
Missing in the roundup list is the Fujinon XF27mmF2.8 R WR. But do we really need reviews here? I have already put my XF27mmF2.8 for sale on the facebook market as I will replace it with the new version as soon as I can. I don’t care about the reviews. The optics are the same, which means the image quality is fantastic for such a small lens. All I want is an aperture ring, which is enough for me to “upgrade”.
As for sales on FujiRumors, the best selling gear is the Fujifilm GFX100S, followed by the X-E4 (all time best selling X-E camera on FR), the GF80mmF1.7 and finally its basically a tie between the XF70-300mm and XF27mmF2.8 R WR.
