A Tale of a Hiking Fuller than Full Frame, a Sony Shooter Lusting after Fujifilm Colors and a Rumor Storm to Come

Share

I Was Gone… Fuller than Full Frame!

This summer my Fujifilm APS-C X gear dominated and found its way in my camera bag most of the time.

May it be my X-T4 used during my holidays on the Elba island in Tuscany with my wife and son, or my top-combo X-E3 with XF27mm2.8 R WR used in many of my short 1 day family friendly mountain hikes.

But not this time!

In fact, I just came back from an extensive multi-day mountain hike in the Dolomites, and this is what I packed:

So how did it go?

Well, the reason I mostly instinctively grab my X series gear is because, in addition to offering a great image quality, compared to my GFX gear it is simply lighter and more compact, plus there are some lenses I truly love in that system, like the XF35mmF1.4 R (which never stops to stun me), the Fujifilm X-E3 with XF27mmF2.8MKII (my go to combo to document my everyday family life) and the XF18-135mmF3.5-5-6.

But the lightness and sheer perfect balance of the APS-C X system made me forget one thing: how portable and flexible actually also Fujifilm’s medium format system is!

As you can see, this is how I hiked for several hours a day: a medium format camera and lens on my hip, the tripod most of the time in my camera bag as IBIS took care to compensate for my tired and shaking hands… and in my heart the certainty that no matter how tricky the light will be, no matter how challenging the conditions, no camera will be able to handle it better than my Fujifilm GFX100S does (unless you use one of those monstrous digital MF cameras, but good luck hiking with those… if you can afford it!)

So we can only be grateful to Fujifilm for making medium format so accessible in terms of size and price.

A Sony Shooter Lusts after Fujifilm Colors

Now that I am at home, I have put my images into Capture One 22 and will start my editing.

An editing, that thanks to the awesome Fujifilm files won’t take all that time.

In fact, here is a fun little story.

A few hours after I have shared this image, the SonyAlphaRumors guy dropped me a message asking me how I was able to get those wonderful colors.

My reply turned out to be much shorter than he expected: “Well, so… I just selected ASTIA and that’s it“.

I guess getting awesome colors right in camera is something Sony shooters are not very familiar with ;). Just kidding guys, Sony is a truely fantastic system. In fact, most people I’ve encountered on my hike shot Sony mirrorless!

Sure, some GFX images will need to be tuned, but there are also many that can remain untouched just as they came out of camera.

But Now I Am Back

If I did my job well, then you should not have even noticed that I was away these days. I tried to use every possible break I had and every ever so feeble 4G signal to keep FujiRumors running at full power.

But now I am back at home, ready to lead you through the rumor wave ahead of the September 8 launch event.

Speaking of the GFX system, I am particularly looking forward to the Fujinon GF20-35mmF4, which as we told you will also be announced on that day.

And of course the Fujifilm X-H2, which will set a new standard when it comes to ISO performance on Fujifilm X cameras and offer the largest bump of megapixel ever available on any Fujifilm camera.

  • X-Trans I/II (16MP) to X-Trans III (24MP) = 50% more pixels
  • X-Trans II (24MP) to X-Trans IV (26MP) = 8% more pixels
  • X-Trans IV (26MP) to X-Trans V HR (40MP) = 54% more pixels

You can check out all the Fujifilm X-H2 rumors here.

A Tale in Pictures

Down below just a few images that I selected, because they are sort of a visual summary of the story shared above. Now I am going through all my images and see if I have something nice to share for you on my Instagram :)

The Colors in this Image made SonyAlphaRumors say WOW
