DPRTV: Which are the Best Fujifilm Prime Lenses: XF F1.4 vs F2 (18mm, 23mm and 35mm)

Share

In their latest episode, DPRTV looks at the best Fujifilm prime lenses, more precisely at the following ones:

So which one is the better pick? And is bigger, more expensive and faster always better?

I want to know your opinion, but so far I personally went for the f/1.4 lenses, plus I sold my XF18mmF2 in favor of the even more compact XF27mmF2.8 and now I am a happy owner of the XF27mmF2.8 R WR.

And while I think I could be perfectly happy also with the XF23mmF2 instead of my XF23mmF1.4 (the lens that took the first image of my son), I think I can simply not trade in my XF35mmF1.4 for the XF35mmF2, as I simply love it. The XF35mmF1.4 is always with me on travels (for example here in the gothic streets of Barcelona) and it has that character that also Chris from DPRTV loves so much.

Gosh, I even had to take an emergency jump into the Mekong river one day with all my gear, XF35mmF1.4 included, to avoid to die in the Mekong waterfalls on the border between Laos and Cambodia (I had the brilliant idea to explore alone with an old cr*p wooden Kayak a point where the Mekong gets at least 5 miles large, commonly called the 4000 island).

The mighty Mekong claimed all my gear in exchange for my life. All my gear, except for the XF35mmF1.4, which was the only gear to survive and still today works like a champ.

But enough of that crazy stuff I do on travels.

Down below you can read a summary of what Chris thinks about these lenses.

PRICE ATTACK: Fujifilm GFX50SMKII and GF35-70mm for $4,499 (body $3,999 and lens $500)

Share

Let’s recap some if the GFX rumors we shared:

The price of the Fujifilm GFX system is really falling down rapidly, attacking full frame more aggressively than ever.

Soon Fujifilm will offer a GFX camera with a sensor 70% larger than full frame along with a kit lens capable of resolving 100+MP for a price of $4,499 when purchased in a bundle.

Given the direction Fujifilm is so quickly taking with the GFX system, I can see why they see no need to go full frame. We are really reaching a price point, where you can get a high resolution GFX camera plus a lens for a cheaper price than a 50MP full frame body only camera or at the same price of the 45MP Canon R5.

Sure, those FF cameras have other strengths, like super high frame rates and and amazing AF tracking. But if you shoot mostly in single AF and don’t do crtical wildlife or sports photography, the current GFX system is more than capable.

BREAKING: Fujifilm GFX50S MKII Price Leaked

Share

Ok guys, as usual, when I share a rumor, I am confident that it is correct.

But lately the world has gone crazy and behind the scenes everything changes continuously due lack of parts, cyber attacks, global pandemic, alien invasion and what not.

With that disclaimer out of the way, today I’d like to tell you that, according to our sources, the Fujifilm GFX50SMKII will hit the market with a price tag of $3,999.

If I share it now, it means I am confident that price is not so likely to change anymore. But if that should happen, I will let you know on FujiRumors.

The Fujifilm GFX50SMKII will sport the good old 50MP sensor of current GFX50 cameras, have the same form factor of the GFX100S, it will have IBIS and come in the second half of 2021 (but not on August 27).

That’s all… for now ;).

Fujifilm X-H2: Getting 8K for Less than $2,500 and Price Comparison with Sony A1 and Canon R5

Share

Regarding the Fujifilm X-H2, we already told exclusively to FujiRumors readers that:

Now, I have read some comments saying that less than $2,500 is still to high for an APS-C camera.

So let’s talk about it and compare it to how much you pay to get other 8K mirrorless cameras on the market today.

With a rumored Fujifilm X-H2 price of less than $2,500, the X-H2 would end up costing about half the price of the Canon EOS R5 or even about 1/3 of the Sony A1 price.

Now, I once wrote an article giving you guys 7 reasons why full frame can’t kill APS-C, and price is one of the reasons.

In fact, if the rumored price is accurate (and I have no reasons to doubt that) the Fujifilm X-H2 will once again prove my point that full frame can only match the price of APS-C cameras by sacrificing features and specs, as we explained making some real life examples here.

I guess that’s also why DPReview, Petapixel & CO consider APS-C is the sweet spot.
