Fujinon XF33mmF1.4 vs XF35mmF1.4 Size Comparison [UPDATED – And WHY]

Yesterday I have shared [quote] “an approximate size comparison between the upcoming Fujinon XF33mm f/1.4 R LM WR and the glorious XF35mm f/1.4 R.”

Well, today I have to share a minor update to the original size comparison. The latest comparison can be seen above.

Now, as you can see, there is not much difference. The Fujinon XF33mmF1.4 R LM WR is sensibly bigger than the Fujinon XF35mmF1.4 R. However, in today’s size comparison, it is a tiny bit smaller than in yesterday’s mockup.

But in any case, if you desire a super fast autofocus, ultra high resolution and weather resistant lens, the XF33mm f/1.4 will be inevitably bigger than the the XF35mmF1.4.

I can hear you, why the (minor) adjustment in size today?

Well, it’s pretty simple.

I have made a couple of size comparisons taking the Fujinon XF18mmF1.4 as a base (I just changed the number “18 with “33”) and resized it in different versions. I have submitted those to sources asking which one they think could be the most accurate. I ended up with the recommendation of the mockup you can see today. However, yesterday I erroneously picked the wrong mockup. My sources noticed this, and asked me to correct it.

I apologize for that and I hope you value at least that it took me less than 24 hours to rectify my little error. ;)

And yet, it may be an error, but it doesn’t change the substance: the XF33mmF1.4 is and will be noticeably bigger than the XF35mmF1.4. Which is one of the reasons why FujiRumors always told you that this lens is NOT a replacement for the original XF35mmF1.4.

Fujifilm X-H2 Coming with New X-Trans Sensor: My Thoughts and Your Vote!

Thanks to our sources, we know it: the Fujifilm X-H2 will feature a new X-Trans sensor!

What we also know, is that the Fujifilm X-H2 will be Fujifilm’s first camera to feature a new sensor and processor.

So here is quickly what I think about it.

Now, both color filter arrays have their strengths and weaknesses. We have written about it more in detail here. In short we could sum it up like this:

  • Bayer Array: better for more features
  • X-Trans Array: better for image quality

Again, this is a brutal simplification. If you want to understand it better, definitely read this article.
