5 Reasons Why FujiRumors just Pre-ordered the Fujifilm X-T4 and Won’t Wait for Fujifilm X-H2

So I did it. I placed my pre-order for the Fujifilm X-T4.

I hope it will come in time for the wedding I will be shooting.

So why did a rangefinder lover like me buy a SLR-styled camera with selfie flippy screen? And why not wait for Fujifilm X-H2? Here are 5 reasons:

  1. I love dials: the Fujifilm X-H2 will have a top LCD screen. I prefer to have an exposure compensation dial… as many dials as possible. That’s what brought me into the Fujifilm X system, and that’s why I remain there. And I don’t care if the Fujifilm X-H2 has 43 megapixel and new processor. Ergonomics are more important than megapixel to me.
  2. I love compactness: the Fujifilm X-H2 will have a massive grip. That’s great for many of you, but I like my cameras to be smaller (which is why I shoot also the amazing X-E3)
  3. there is no hiding, I would have preferred a 3 way tilt screen. But then I thought, that I use the screen maybe 10% of the time, as I am total viewfinder fan. And in those 10% of the times, I will get used to flip that screen out. It still allows for portrait orientation (which the X-T100 screen does not). And it still allows for low and high angle shots. But again… my thought… I use the EVF anyway all the time. For the rest I will just keep it flipped inwards, like the “hidden screen” of the X-Pro3.
  4. As you know I am a teacher, and in the last few years I started making more and more videos with my students, as this is an extremely motivating activity for me and for the students. So far I filmed with my X-E3, or X-E2 (which I destroyed). Now it’s time to step up my game and get a camera with IBIS and serious video specs. At the beginning of June I will be on a 1 week school trip abroad, and I hope to have the X-T4 to document it.
  5. The X-H1 was close to make it into my camera bag. But looking at the massive autofocus improvements on the X-T4, I just had to pass and get the Fujifilm X-T4.

So yes, I am in. I pre-ordered the Fujifilm X-T4. Now the long waiting begins, just like all of you guys, as I have absolutely no privileged contacts with Fujifilm.

Wait… you want to know which color? Well, make your guess in the comments. I will let you know later on ;).

CP+ 2020 Show Canceled and Fujifilm Pulls Out from WPPI Show

The CP+ in Japan has just been canceled due to the coronavirus. You can read more here.

Also, a FR-reader informed me (thanks), that after many years, Fujifilm will not be at the WPPI wedding & portrait show in Las Vegas. I checked, and indeed they do not show up in the exhibitors list. There will, though, a Fujifilm rep at the B&C Camera booth.

I remind you that Fujifilm will skip Photokina, too.

Fujifilm X-T4: D-Pad or No D-Pad? The Answer in This Article!

I still remember, when back in August 2017, I shared a rumor, that many of you thought is wrong, but it turned out correct: Fujifilm will remove the D-Pad from the Fujifilm X-E3.

Since then, many Fujifilm cameras saw the loss of the D-Pad:

Even the huge Fujifilm GFX100, that definitely has enough real estate to host a D-Pad, didn’t get one.

Well, I am happy to report, that the Fujifilm X-T4 will remain a welcome exception to this trend and keep the D-Pad, just as the X-T3 did.

The Fujifilm X-T4 will be announced February 25/26. You can find the precise X-T4 announcement time in your country here.

Fujifilm X Summit Today 3 PM New York Time: What we Expect, What Not and We Hope

On February 4, at 3PM New York time, there will be the Fujifilm X Summit in London.

Of course there will be a live stream here on FujiRumors at:

  • NEW YORK – 3 PM of February 4
  • BERLIN – 9 PM of February 4

So what can we expect, what not, and what are our hopes? Let’s go through it:

WHAT WE EXPECT

We will definitely see the Fujifilm X100V coming. The first Fujifilm X100V leaked image is already out, and so are the full X100V specs, which for your convenience we have compared side by side with Fujfiilm X100F.

WHAT WE DON’T EXPECT

According to our sources, the final announcement, with full specs and pre-orders, for the Fujifilm X-T4 will be on February 26.

I don’t know, though, if there will be some sort of “Fujifilm X-T4 development announcement“, as it happened with the Fujifilm X-Pro3 back at the second Fujfiilm X Summit. So they could show us a Fujifilm X-T4 prototype, but don’t disclose any of the specs. That’s always a possibility.

Also, we don’t expect any Fujifilm GFX camera, as there will be none coming in 2020.

WHAT WE HOPE

Exactly one year after the first Fujifilm X summit in Dubai, where Fujifilm officially asked us which X lenses we want next in this survey, I think it would be high time to give us also a new roadmap. But I don’t know if there will be one. Or if they will wait for the Fujifilm X-T4 announcement to disclose it to the world.

Fujifilm X-T3 firmware

Fujifilm recently released Fujifilm X-T3 firmware 3.20, which promises a noticeable improvement in face and eye autofocus.

If you are looking for feedback, take a loot at the 281 comments in our Fujifilm X-T3 firmware 3.20 article.

Now we have a first autofocus comparison between the Fujifilm X-T3 old vs new firmware.

The video is French by les-guides-fujifilm.com. Left side camera old firmware, right camera new firmware.

The video below starts at min. 8.06, which is where you can see both cameras tested side by side.

If somebody speaks French (sadly it’s not one of the 4 languages I speak), it would be great if you could quickly summarize in the comments what he thinks about the new firmware.

UPDATE: here is the translation from one of our readers (thanks)

  • face detection is generally better as it works with smaller (further away) faces, and is more reliable
  • multiple faces are also better handled than before
  • in difficult circumstance (such as somebody wearing glasses, face seen from the side, …) there seems to be no improvement.
  • with 56 XF strange results: new firmware seems to degrade the autofocus performance
  • with 16-80 XF there’s a general improvement
  • tracking remains a bit laggy, no real improvement vs previous version

It’s Gone: Also Fujifilm X100V Without D-Pad

Fujifilm X100V - First Real Life Image
Fujifilm X100V – First Real Life Image

Fujifilm X100V

After we leaked the first real life images of the Fujifilm X100V, there was a debate on if it had a D-Pad or not.

Well, I’d like to end this debate, and tell you that it has no D-Pad.

But that’s not as bad, as it might be on the Fujifilm X-Pro3… let me explain:

Due to the nature of the hidden screen, on the X-Pro3 basically loses the 4 FN-swipe LCD functions (unless you tilt it down).

But on the Fujifilm X100V it will remain easy and fast to access those 4 additional touch FN swipe settings.

The Fujifilm X100V will be announced February 4.

FujiRumors will live stream the Fujifilm X100V announcement from the Fujifilm X Summit.

Happy Birthday: Fujifilm Turns 86 Years Old Today… and About How Fujifilm Survived the Digital Age

Fujifilm Birthday

FujiRumors had birthday just a few days ago.

Now it’s time to celebrate Fujifilm, as today they turn 86 years old!

In these 86 years, Fujifilm has proven to be an innovative and creative company, that was able to smartly maneuver around some serious crises and find new solutions in a rapidly changing market.

Also, Fujifilm was able to succeed, where other tech giants (Samsung) failed: enter the highly competitive camera market and experience a steady grow, that puts it in the third position of the global mirrorless camera sales ranking.

And while having a glorious history is nice and good, Fujifilm should not rest on its laurels. The camera market is shrinking, and it will require, once again, all the creative and technological energy inside Fujifilm, to remain competitive and profitable.

So, from all my heart, I wish happy birthday to Fujifilm, and I think the best way to celebrate its birthday, is the documentary I share below, about how Fujifilm was able to survive the digital age. Note how at minute 35, the manager says:

I had announced that we would protect the photograph culture. No matter how small it gets…we might downsize production, but we would keep the culture alive and protect it. The culture of photographs is one that mankind can do without…No matter what we will not get rid of photography.

You may say what you want about Fujifilm, but I think we can all agree, that Fujifilm has a massive photographic culture, that one can feel, even when he picks up a digital camera.

This happens, when the top manager responsible for digital cameras inside Fujifilm says he actually does not like digital cameras, but he loves film.

Or when the guy, who designed the original X100, tells the story about his father, his cameras, and how this inspired him to design the first Fujifilm X series camera.

Keep up being creative and inspired, Fujifilm!

All the best, from Patrick and from all other fellow Fujifilm lovers reading this blog.

EXCLUSIVE: Fujifilm X100V with 2 way Tilt Screen

Fujifilm X100V

Hey guys, had a good weekend? I hope so.

I thought we start the week with something fun… a nice rumor, courtesy of a kind source (thanks) :).

Back in November 2, there was an original report on dpreview, that said:

I also got a little bit of gossip from the Fujifilm rep on the x100 refresh: He said that he has seen three mock ups of potential designs, two of which have flip screens (with one modelled on the Xpro3’s).

That triggered a wave of disinformation, claiming the X100V would have the X-Pro3 hidden screen.

FujiRumors tried to stop this speculation immediately on November 3 here, by telling you the Fujifilm X100V will not have the Fujifilm X-Pro3 screen.

Today, thanks to our fantastic sources, we would like to disclose the full truth: the Fujifilm X100V will have a 2 way tilt screen!

Now, you know I shoot X-E3, so tilt screens are not a priority for me. But it’s also true that shooting from the hip can come in quite handy during street photography, as Zack Arias has shown here (go to minute 0:40).

So there will be some who love the idea of a tilt screen, others will hate it. Let us know in the survey what’s your take on this.

Fujifilm X100V with 2 way tilt screen, a good Idea?
