Fujifilm GFX100S Size Reduction Explained by Fujifilm Engineers – Fujifilm X Lab

Fujifilm has uploaded its latest Fujifilm X lab episode. As usual the episode is in Japanese and we rely on the automatic translation tool.

But I don’t want my readers to go through this pain, so I have summed it up for you below, as well as shared all close up images of the internals of the Fujifilm GFX100S.

Most of the size reduction was achieved thanks to the new shutter mechanism. But also the IBIS got smaller and even the Fujifilm X-T4 battery played a role in this.

Does Fujifilm Need Full Frame? Fujifilm GFX100S vs Sony A1 vs Canon R5 vs Nikon Z7II Specs Comparison

In the launch video of the Fujifilm GFX100S, Fuji Guy Francis literally said: “is the GFX100S the reason why Fujifilm has not made a mirrorless full frame camera?” ;) – full live coverage here.

So I thought we take a look at the specs of the Fujifilm GFX100S compared to other high resolution full frame cameras.

Sure, all these cameras serve a different purpose. There is not one camera for all.

But while the Fujifilm APS-C system was so far putting a nice pressure on the full frame systems coming from the bottom, we still lacked of a real GFX camera able to put pressure from the top.

But the GFX100S changed this. Now Fujifilm’s full frame attack strategy is much stronger thanks to the pressure coming from both sides, the X and GFX system.

Size Comparison: Fujifilm GFX100S vs Canon R5 vs Sony A7IV vs Nikon Z5 vs GFX50R vs GFX50S vs GFX100 vs X-T4

Here is a quick size comparison I made between the upcoming Fujifilm GFX100S and the GFX50R, Sony A7rIV and the Canon R5.

For a sensor 70% fuller than full frame, the camera looks pretty damn compact if you ask me, considering that it has IBIS.

Well, fellow FR-readers, my wife is having some contractions right now, so whenever she gives me the signal, I will grab the car and drive her to the hospital. I might be offline for a little bit, but if anyone of you wants to make more size comparisons, feel free to share it in the comments down below for the community.

FUJIFILM X SUMMIT Announced for JANUARY 27 at 8 AM New York Time (GFX100S, X-E4 and Much More)

FujiRumors told you back in December that Fujifilm would have a major announcement on January 27 (and not January 29), and now it’s confirmed by Fujifilm ;).

There will be a Fujifilm X Summit on January 27 at:

  • 8 AM New York Time
  • 2 PM Rome Time
  • 10 PM Tokyo Time

If it wasn’t for FujiRumors, you’d be totally in the dark about what will be announced. But thanks to exclusive FujiRumors leaks over the last few months (thanks a TON for the help of our sources), we know that Fujifilm will announce:
