BREAKING: Fujifilm X-E4 Coming in First Quarter 2021

Yes, I know, the Fujifilm X-E line ain’t the most popular among Fuji X shooters.

But I love the X-E line, although I was rather unlucky with it, because…

Right now I own a lovely Fujifilm X-E3, which somehow I still didn’t destroy. ;)

Given my X series background, you can imagine how happy I am today, when I can report that the Fujifilm X-E4 is set for announcement in the first quarter 2021 (between January and March 2021).

So now you have them both, the 2 mid-range cameras to come and I told you a while back ago here: X-S10 and X-E4!

My personal wishlist?

  • X-E4 with X100V alike ultra-thin “invisible” tilt screen (no selfie screen, please)
  • X-E4 with combined ISO/Shutter dial of X-Pro3

And don’t forget, Fujifilm will give us also a brand new Fujinon XF27mmF2.8 MK II lens.

I hope this rumor made your day just as it did mine :)

I apologize, because…

… I try and I think I succeed to reply to every single one of the 20+ emails and personal messages I get every single day.

However, not always I am able to give you the comprehensive reply you’d deserve, for a simple reason: time!

In fact, I have day job as a teacher and I run FujiRumors totally alone. Hence, in order to be able to reply to everyone with the limited time I have left, sometimes I just must give a shorter reply, even if often your emails would deserve a comprehensive answer.

Now, some of the most interesting emails I get, are those, with input, ideas and wishes for future Fujifilm products.

And since also to those emails, often I can’t reply as comprehensively as I’d love to, I had the idea to share them with the entire FujiRumors community, and extend the discussion to all of you.

Last time we discussed:

  • read here – FR-readers Wishlist Corner: Fujifilm X-TSony, Firmware Upgrade Suggestions, Lens Wishes and Much More

Today I’d have selected a few more of those wishes.

So, if anyone reading this is interested, feel free to drop your thoughts in the comments.

You have wishes about the Fujifilm future, too? Well, then write me at fujirumor@gmail.com.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Patrick

Hooray! Fujifilm X-E4 Shows Up in Internal Fujifilm Roadmap Again!

Message to Source: Mega-Thanks! As an X-E line lover, you really made my day!!!

And since you contact me anonymously via nickname, I have something to ask you. I did read also the rest of the message. Thanks a lot for that. I am investigating, and I believe I know the answer to some of the things you told me, but not all.

If you want, you can contact me via email or personal message on social media. So I would tell you what I know (or think to know) and maybe you can confirm or not. You can also make a fake email if you prefer.

But if you prefer not, then of course it’s also fantastic help just to use the rumor box with your nickname. In that case, if I have something to tell you, I will try to do it via the blog, as I do today.

Regarding the other information you sent me: I will wait a little bit, just in case you decide to contact me, so I can share something with you, and we can decide together how to share. Otherwise I will proceed as usual, and share the information as I received it from you soon.

X-E4: I Am Back

Two months ago I told you that the Fujifilm X-E4 had been axed by Fujifilm.

Multiple sources confirmed this.

But I also told you that, if there is one rumor I hope you guys will one day sh*tstorm on me, because I was wrong, then it’s this one.

And guess what?

A highly trusted source decided to make my day (and the one of many other fellow X shooters), by telling us the Fujifilm X-E4 is now back on the internal Fujifilm camera roadmap!

So, actually the “X-E4 is dead” is technically not a wrong rumor.

In fact, the X-E4 has been really axed back in late 2019/beginning 2020. But Fujifilm put it back on the roadmap just very recently in April. And yet, unless a Fujifilm manager one day confirms, what I know is true, I will move the X-E4 rumor in the “wrong rumors 2020” list anyway.

Sh*tstorm or not, I really don’t care. I know the truth, and even more important is that the X-E line is back on the roadmap. This makes me happy!

And now let me grab my old dog and go out on the fields around my home with a smile on my face :).

Ah, Fuji… don’t forget the tilt screen this time ;).

Fujifilm Manager: “I think There will be a Fujifilm X-E4, but it Might Skip one Sensor/Processor Generation”

I know, here on FujiRumors we told you that Fujifilm decided to drop the Fujifilm X-E line, which means there won’t be any Fujifilm X-E4.

It’s one of those rumors, I hope to be wrong with all my heart (but I am very confident I am not).

Now, the X-E line was always walking on a thin line, and it risked to be dropped already in the past, as you know from my X-E3 love letter.

These days I am scanning the web for any statement regarding the X-E4, that can give me some hope.

I searched long, and I found a short statement made by Italian Fujifilm manager Massimo Vaghi in a 2+ hour long Fujifilm X-T4 and X100V live chat.

He says:

RUMOR: Fujifilm X-E line Canceled, Game Over for Fujifilm X-E4

I have received word from our sources (thanks), that Fujifilm will drop the Fujifilm X-E line.

As you know, I am huge Fujifilm X-E line fan. I love its compactness, I love its performance, I love its form factor and its simplicity.

So this rumor hits me very strong.

However, the X-E line was always on the fence to be canceled, as sales were always low.

In fact, already after the Fujifilm X-E2s failure, Fujifilm considered dropping the line altogether. Which is why back in 2016 I wrote straight out of my heart a “love letter to the unborn X-E3“, followed by almost 200 comments of you guys, supporting me.

My hope was that the love letter (and you feedback) would help Fujifilm to continue to believe in this line, and it seems it worked, as Fujifilm managers said half a year later, they are “aware of the many X-E3 requests.”

So we got it, the Fujifilm X-E3 came, and of course I bought it, along with the XF27mm f/2.8, the perfect lens for this camera.

But here we are again. And this time it looks really like the dead-end street for the Fujifilm X-E line.

Maybe many of you will agree with Fuji’s decision. Maybe you will think Fujifilm has to simplify and streamline its line-up. And maybe it “rationally” makes sense to drop the X-E line.

But as a huge X-E line lover myself, I can’t look at this rumor rationally, and I am just disappointed about it.

Let us know in the survey below, if you think it makes sense to drop the X-E line. Who knows if we can change Fuji’s mind again.

NOTE: the Fujifilm X-E3 is already discontinued, but as of now you can still find it in stock.

And the X-H line?

Is the X-H line also dead?

Well, as FujiRumors always told you, at no point in time, Fujifilm was considering to drop the X-H line. Those rumors were always fake, as the Fujifilm X-H2 was always on the roadmap, and now Fujifilm confirmed it themselves for the second time.

Should Fujifilm Drop the X-E line?

Release Timeline for Fujifilm X-T4, X-H2, X-T40, X-Pro3, X100V, X-E4, X-T200 and X-A6 Based on Fuji’s Previous Camera Releases

Fujifilm Timeline

Almost 1 year ago, I published a release timeline of Fujifilm cameras, and, based on that timeline, I made guesses on when a successor could come.

Turns out that, so far, our timeline was pretty accurate. In fact, based on Fuji’s release schedule, we predicted:

  • Prediction: X-T30 in February 2019 – Reality: January 2019 – Accuracy: 1 month off
  • Prediction: X-Pro3 in January 202o – Reality: around October 2019 – Accuracy: about 3 months off

Now I thought it’s time to update our timeline, because:

  • some cameras have already been announced (X-T30) and others will be announced soon (X-Pro3)
  • this time we include cameras not listed last time (X-T200 and X-A6)

Down below you find the updated release timeline for:

The X-T4/X-H2 Grain of Salt Corner

Keep in mind that this camera replacement timeline is NOT based ON RUMORS, but on past camera release schedule of Fujifilm.

Hence, take it with a grain of salt, especially when it comes to Fujifilm X-H2 and Fujifilm X-T4 release. The timing between X-H1 and X-T3 has proven to be very damaging for X-H1 sales, so there might be some changes here.

In fact, according to our sources, the Fujifilm X-H2 might not even come in 2020! But I want to wait for more details and confirmations, before changing the below timeline.

Speaking of X-H2 and X-T4, the FujiRumors community has voted on various Fujifilm X-H2 and X-T4 release timing options. Check out the poll results here (I voted for the option currently on the 3rd position).

Fujifilm X Camera Replacement Timeline from 2011 to 2018 and What This Could Mean for X-H2, X-T4, X-T30, X-Pro3, X-E4, X200

Fujifilm Timeline

Today I decided to take a look at the refresh rate of the top/mid range Fujifilm cameras and tried to make a guess (NOT A RUMOR) about when the Fujifilm X-H2, Fujifilm X-Pro3, Fujifilm X-E4, Fujifilm X-T4, Fujifilm X-T30 and Fujifilm X200 (or X100V) can be expected.

Overall we can see how the Fujifilm X-E and X-Pro line are gravitating towards a 4 years refresh time, whereas X-T and X100 line are close to a 2 years refresh time.

WARNING

  • This is not based on rumors, and it’s not said that Fujifilm will always keep the same product refresh rate. Everything can change anytime.
  • Don’t miss the upcoming rumors and join us on Facebook, RSS-feed, Instagram, Youtube and Twitter

NOT INCLUDED:

  1. All 2/3 sensor cameras are not included, since the won’t ever get any successor (not even 1 inch sensor cameras, no matter what old patents say)
  2. X70/XF10: XF10 is not the X70 successor. It’s unclear if there will be a Fujifilm X80 at some point
  3. X-A line has a high refresh rate, but the FR community is for the most part not interested in this camera line
  4. GFX 50S, GFX 100S, GFX 50R: According to our rumors, the GFX 100 comes 2 years and 3 months after the GFX 50S. It’s unclear if the Fuji GFX 50R will also get a 2 year refresh rate or a 4 year refresh rate like its rangefinder brothers the X-Pro and X-E

Fujifilm X-E3 Review and Some Considerations for X-E4

The Fujifilm X-E3 just hit the market, gets great reviews (including the Gold Award at dpreview), but of course no camera on earth is perfect. So Kevin Mullins already has some considerations for the Fujifilm X-E4… you will find it all in the X-E3 roundup down below… enjoy it.

Fujifilm Confirms X-Pro is on Roadmap, Immersive X-E5 Experience, Film Simulation Dial Success, Firmware Updates and More

Yuji Igarashi, General Manager of Professional Imaging Group, gave an interview to Petapixel. In short:

  • with Fujifilm X-E5, Fujifilm wanted to create a camera with which users can truly enjoy the immersive experience of making a photo
  • recently there is resurgence of interest in photography especially among younger generations
  • camera design is never complete, since Fujifilm tries to make improvements in every generation for every model
  • features often carry over from models aimed at the same users
  • X-E5 has single piece aluminum top plate of GFX100RF and the film simulation dial was added—like on the X-T50 and X-M5—but more subtly, to preserve the X-E series’ clean design
  • the film sim dial proved successful on other models, so Fujifilm brought it to the X-E5 for enthusiasts to enjoy
  • Fujifilm added the command dial for better handling, responding to X-E4 user feedback
  • user feedback also led to a better grip and upgraded body finish
  • Rangefinder-style cameras appeal to those who value a discreet, immersive, and deliberate shooting experience. That’s why Fujifilm believes the X-E5 lets photographers truly enjoy the process of image-making
  • Fujifilm constantly assess which features work well to consider them for other models
  • higher resolution enhances creative options through cropping and gets the most out of X Series lenses
  • XF23mmF2.8 is the result of a public survey that Fujifilm launched
  • it made sense to announce the XF23mmF2.8 along with the X-E5
  • X-Pro remains on the roadmap (admin note: but not for 2025)
  • a dedicated camera makes you more deliberate. It shifts you from reacting to actively seeking moments—that’s what makes photography so fun and rewarding
  • technology evolves daily, so new devices drive big leaps. But firmware improvements and algorithm updates also matter, and Fujifilm will keep enhancing both current and future cameras
