RUMOR: Fujinon XF 50mm f/1.0 Coming 2020 for Around $1,500
I have received word (thanks), that the price of the Fujinon XF50mm f/1.0 should be about $1,500.
Of course the price is one of those things, Fujifilm can change until just a few days before official launch, so take it with a grain of salt for now. But the fact I share it today, means I got multiple confirmation that Fujifilm is targeting that price.
Curiosity: just recently a fellow X-T group member here, asked people how much they think the XF50mmF1.0 will cost. Lots of people guessed a price around $2,000. So for many the rumored price tag will come as a pleasant surprise.
As Fujifilm managers said in various interviews (such as here), the Fujinon XF50mmF1.0 will come in 2020.
In previous coverage about the XF50mmF1.0, such as in this dedicated XF50mmF1.0 article, we got some initial specs:
- weight under 1 kilo
- minimum aperture f/16
- 77 mm filter size
- more beautiful bokeh than the XF56mm f/1.2
- first autofocus demo (contrast AF only) at minute 43:07 in the live stream video
- the final lens will of course support also PDAF
Back in February, Fujifilm managers officially said there will be 4 new lenses within the next 12 months, and thanks to our sources we know that they will be:
- Fujinon XF 50mm f/1.0
- Fujinon XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6
- Fujinon X mount prime MK II Lens
- Fujinon X mount zoom MK II Lens

The Fujifilm X-Pro3 will Save Photography and More Companies Should Take the Risk to Do Unique Things
GxAce published his Fujifilm X-Pro3 long term review with the title “the camera that will save photography“.
So, why should the X-Pro3 save photography.
in a world of fully articulating screens and in body image stabilization, cameras these days are getting pretty stale to me. They all pretty much look the same and they all pretty much have the same features, except for one: the Fujifilm X-Pro3
I think it’s awesome that Fujifilm basically ignored everything and made a camera that is unique. It’s such a cool idea, what photography needs to be doing to stay relevant.
I hope more camera companies will take risks, do unique things, have unique ideas.
We have reached the point where every cameras is amazing, they all pretty much can do the same things. What I think will be the differentiating factor going on in the future will be how we interface with the camera.

Fujifilm X-T4 Firmware 1.02 Improves Autofocus with DC Motor Fujinon Lenses (+ Last Spaces for Rico’s Fuji X Workshop)
As you know from this interview with Fuji Guy Billy, there are different types of autofocus motors for camera lenses, such as:
- stepping motors
- linear motors
- DC coreless motors
- ultrasonic type of motors
Of course each of these 4 motors has its Pros and Cons, you can read about it here.
Today we want to focus only the DC coreless AF motors, which are the best option if you have to move fast and big glass elements without making the lens too big. Some lenses that employ the DC coreless AF motor are the glorious Fujinon XF56mm f/1.2 and the XF23mmF1.4. Of course it’s used also in not so fast lenses, such as one of my favorites mounted on my X-E3, the lovely XF27mmF2.8.
NOTE: FYI: 35/1.4 has a stepping motor
Why do we talk about it today?
Well, we recently shared a Fujinon XF video autofocus review by Philip Bloom, where he showed that the XF56mm F1.2 performs very bad.
The test was done before the recent Fujifilm X-T4 firmware 1.02, which officially improved IBIS (by a large margin, as shown here) and fixed a few bugs.
What Fujifilm did not tell us, but luckily X guru Rico Pfirstinger told us, is that Fujifilm X-T4 firmware 1.02 also improved autofocus performance with lenses sporting a DC coreless AF motor.
It would be great if Philip Bloom could repeat his test with the XF56mmF1.2. He should notice a significant improvement.
Speaking of Rico…
Rico is offering online workshops (in German). They are usually sold out quickly, with long waiting lists on top of it. But it happens that there are a few last spots left for 2 of them.
Keep in mind, the workshops are in German language.

Fujifilm Spirit Level Patent for Fujifilm GFX100 and other Top LCD cameras such as Fujifilm X-H1 and X-H2?
As we reported already in the past, Fujifilm is very active when it comes to patents about new ergonomic solutions:
- Fujifilm Patents Touch Sensitive Top Dial with Adjustable Settings Control
- Fujifilm Patents Touch Sensitive Top LCD Panel
The one below is just another one of those :).
It clearly shows a Fujfiilm GFX100, hence it might eventually find its way into the Fujifilm GFX100 via firmware update and to other cameras with top LCD, such as the Fujifilm X-H1 and Fujifilm X-H2.
Here is the description of the patent by the Japanese site dclife (google translated):
The design for displaying the electronic level on the Fujifilm camera top sub-monitor has been registered with the Japan Patent Office. I don’t follow patent related information very much in life, but I was interested in it personally, so I would like to pick it up. FUJIFILM will apply for the design on May 22, 2019, and will be the design registration 1657892 issued on April 1, 2020.
Taking “GFX100” as an example, the top sub-monitor of “GFX100” supports INFO display, dial display, and histogram. Perhaps future products may support the electronic level display. I am also worried about the contents that can be supported by firmware update.
Personally, I use the sub-monitor on the top only for tripod shooting and night shooting, but I think it would be useful to increase the user’s usage by switching the display. Perhaps it may come in handy when shooting on a tripod or low angle.
