Fujifilm Patents Active Sensor Cooling System for Cameras with IBIS (but Really for Fujifilm X-H2 and Fujifilm X-H2S?)

Fujifilm has patented an active sensor cooling system using fan and heat sink for cameras featuring IBIS.

These kind of cooling systems are generally used for video centric cameras like the Panasonic GH6 and S1H, the Canon EOS R5C and the Sony FX3.

I know what you are thinking: this must be for the Fujifilm X-H2, which everybody expects to be the video-centric camera of Fujifilm.

But I have learned one thing in all these years: my speculations are not nearly as accurate as the rumors from our sources. This is why I won’t even try it, and just let it there as a patent, waiting for our sources to give us some more solid indication on the Fujifilm X-H2 cameras.

  • Applicant: Fujifilm Corporation
    Published by:P2022055674
    Application number: P 2020163229
    Released:2022-04-08
Name of invention: Imaging equipment and imaging method
  • One embodiment of this disclosure technology is to provide an imaging device and imaging method with image stabilization mechanism.
  • In recent years, image sensors may shoot high-quality videos for a long time. It is preferable to use the imaging device in the appropriate temperature range. Shooting high-quality videos consumes a lot of power, and the heat generation from the imaging device itself exceeds the appropriate temperature range. In long-term high-quality video recording, the imaging device works with protection functions such as forcing the shooting to for the protection of the device itself and the safety of the photographer, such as forcing the shooting to exceed the appropriate temperature range. Therefore, it may not be possible to secure enough shooting time for shooting high-quality videos.
  • In addition, when shooting repeatedly, it is not possible to secure enough shooting time when there is no time interval when the temperature of the imaging device that rose when used last time drops to the appropriate range. In addition, in the imaging device with image stabilization function, it is difficult to dissipate heat generated from the image sensor because the heating image sensor is constantly floating at the time of shooting.
  • In light of the situation described above, in this form, we propose an imaging device and imaging method that can rapidly cool the image sensor and secure the shooting time in the appropriate temperature range after the shooting is over or using the image stabilization function.
  • The imaging unit 100 has three heat pipes 180A to 180C. Heat pipes 180A to 180C are heat transport bodies that transport heat. The end of the heat pipe 180A to 180C is installed in sheet metal 108C of the refrigerator 108. In addition, the other end of the heat pipe 180A to 180C is installed in the heat sink 110. As a result, the heat emitted by the cooling system 108 can be transported from 180A to 180C and cooled by the forced cooling mechanism 46 of the destination.
  • Using heat pipes 180A to 180C, the heat generated from the cooling system 108 can be transported and cooled with the forced cooling mechanism 46 of the destination. As a result, there is no need to prepare a forced cooling system with sheet metal 108C of the cooling system 108, and it is possible to make effective use of the space inside the imaging device 2 of the image sensor 20.

Fujifilm X-H2 Concept Rendering

Fujifilm X-H2

There are some images of the Fujifilm X-H2 floating around on social media which are erroneously reported as the possibly first leaked images of the Fujifilm X-H2.

Well, here on FujiRumors we kept a cool head and did what we can do best: verify and check.

So it turns out that these are not leaked X-H2 images but renderings made by Fujifilm X shooter Steven.

And while not the real deal, Steven’s renderings could  be a nice way to start a discussion on how we’d like the Fujifilm X-H2 to be in terms of handling and ergonomics.

Which design choices made by Steven do you particularly like? And what other suggestions do you have? Feel free to contribute down below in the comments.

Steven shared his renderings on his instagram here and writes:

How do you think Fujifilm X-H2 would look like?

I imagine it would be a crossover between X-T4 and GFX 100s. As a video-centric camera, being in a less retro form factor makes sense. Adding more dials and buttons will be awesome too.

Also, it’s my first foray into 3D hard surface modeling, so it’s been quite a rough but fun ride.

Since X-H2 is going to be more video-centric, I figured the record button should be prominent, coupled with more function buttons around it. Or is it too many?

That rounded concave thing? It’s meant to be a joystick, so you can move the focus area without touching the LCD nor using the back joystick. That way your right hand doesn’t have to change position while holding the camera.

It would be awesome to have a screen with similar articulation as X-T100. That way the distance between the sub-monitor and the LCD screen is not far. I’m not smart enough to figure out how it works practically, but a man can dream hehe.

As far as solid Fujifilm X-H2 rumor goes, you can find the updated list down below.

BREAKING: Fujifilm X-H2 coming with New 26 Megapixel Sensor

When we told you about the Fujifilm X-H2 coming with a 26 megapixel sensor, most of us speculated that it would be the current 26 MP X-Trans IV sensor, but used in combination with a new processor it would perform better.

And I get it, I also thought this could be an option, especially considering that Fujifilm did the exact same thing with the Fujifilm GFX50SII: use the old sensor but a new processor to improve performance.

But if you read again the article I wrote last year in regards to this rumor, I literally also wrote:

It would be very atypical for Fujifilm to launch in one year (2022) two completely new higher-end APS-C sensors. But just because Fujifilm never did it before, it does not mean it can’t happen with the Fujifilm X-H2.

And according to our sources this is exactly what is going to happen.

In fact, I have been told the the 26MP sensor on the Fujifilm X-H2 will be a “new sensor”.

And remember, there will be also a 40MP Fujifilm X-H2, and that one is (obviously) new, too.

I have no doubts my sources are 100% accurate, and you should not doubt them either ;).

Just stay tuned on FujiRumors to know more details soon.

It’s going to get very wild with rumors now ;).

IMPORTANT UPDATE Regarding Fujifilm X-H2 Teaser: Fujifilm Africa is Not an Official Fujifilm Account

A few days ago we reported how Fujifilm Africa shared on their Instagram page that the Fujifilm X-H2 is coming soon.

What a teaser, right?

Well, I have investigated and I can now say that the fujifilm_africa instagram account is not an official Fujifilm account. Yes, Kevin Mullins and other X photographers follow it, and I thought it is official. But is is not. And yet, if you like Africa and Fujifilm, you can always give it a follow.

Anyway, this is not an official teaser by Fujifilm. I feel I needed to make this clarification in order to be 100% accurate with you guys.

And look, right now when I am typing these words to inform you all, I checked again the account and I see they added “fan page” to their Instagram description, meaning it is run by a fellow Fujifilm lover who probably reads our rumors and looks forward to the Fujifilm X-H2 just as much as we do.

So the story is:

Fujifilm managers never teased anything regarding the Fujifilm X-H2.

Oh well, except for saying that…

Hm, it actually looks like Fujifilm said a lot already!

Fujifilm Confirms: Long Wait for Fujifilm X-H2 is Almost Over (Coming May 2022)

Just yesterday Fujifilm announced the Fujifilm X Summit for May 2022, with the introduction of the 5th generation X series cameras.

Now, they didn’t give any hint on which camera will come, but thanks to FujiRumors you guys know it’s the Fujifilm X-H2, or the two Fujifilm X-H2 I should better say.

But if you still doubt our rumors, look at what Fujifilm Africa shared on their social media:

The long replacement wait is almost over #fuji #fujifilm #xh1 #xh2

I guess it does not get much more clear that this.

What I do not know for sure at this point, is if both X-H2 cameras will be announced in May or if there will be separated announcements.

On the other hand, I am making great progress on other X-H2 rumors (but not only X-H2 ;) ). So definitely stay tuned on FujiRumors. As soon as I have it all multiple checked and I have green light from sources, it’s going to be very fun here on FujiRumors.

Fujifilm X-H2 Announcement in May and Celebrating 10 Years of Fujifilm X Series

So now we know it:

As we reported earlier today, Fujifilm has announced the 5th generation X series camera to be launched in May 2022.

No more than that.

However, FujiRumors readers know it since May 2021 already: the first X series camera to feature an all new sensor and processor will be the Fujifilm X-H2. And actually, not only one, but two Fujifilm X-H2 will come in 2022.

Sure, that’s the huge news of the day.

However, I allow myself to bother you for the second time this Sunday, to hightlight something that otherwise probably would pass unnoticed.

In fact, Fujifilm has released a couple of videos to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Fujifilm X mount (the X-Pro1 was launched in January 2012), and in addition to the Fujifilm X Summit in May, they also annouced a new video project called “Reflections” and a #10YearsOfXMount hashtag campaign.

So we have the following:

  • Fujifilm X Summit in May: 5th generation Fujifilm X Series cameras – Fujifilm X-H2
  • Video Project “Reflections”: Fujifilm would like to feature X-users who they came to know during their 10 year journey. The first video will be released on the 26th of January.
  • #10YearsOfXMount hashtag campaign: Fujifilm will set a theme each month, and you can share a photo about that theme on your social media using the hashtag. The theme for January is “my best photo” (you know which one is mine)
  • GFX Challenge Program (we reported here): Fujiflm will select 50 projects, then narrow it down later on to 15 and in the final round 5 projects will be selected

What we know from previous teaser is that Fujifilm will launch a stacked BSI X-Trans APS-C sensor.

In the same video (you can see below), the Fujifilm manager also says:

  • X-Pro1 was announced 10 years ago on January 9, 2012
  • customers feedback was very positive especially due to the X-Trans sensor and high quality lenses
  • Since then, Fujifilm as introduced about 30 camera models and over 40 lenses

You can also find other celebration videos down below as well as chech out the dedicated Fujifilm X 10th anniversary website.

Also the Fuji Guys and X Photographers started sharing their celebration videos. You can see them all down below, and I will add more videos to the article once they go online.
