New York City Center of Fujifilm World: X Summit on September 8 and Fujikina on September 10

New York City is about to become the center of the Fujifilm world soon.

But I’ve noticed some misunderstandings. So let me clarify.

In the past, Fujifilm called their product launch events “Fujikina” (with reference to the former largest photography fair Photokina). But after Photokina was axed, Fujifilm changed the name for the launch events to “Fujifilm X Summit“.

But suddenly, Fujikina is back. In fact, there will be one on September 10 in New York. So some people thought that this will be the day when Fujifilm will announce new gear.

However, that won’t be the case. The latest and greatest Fujifilm gear will be announced during the X summit on September 8, which will also take place in New York.

Here are the events:

  • Sep. 8 at 2PM EST – Fujifilm X Summit with new product announcements
  • Sep. 10 all day – Fujikina with photowalks, stage talks, workshops and more

So, the hottest day will be September 8 at 2PM New York time. The X summit will take place online, new products will be announced, and of course we will stream it live here on FujiRumors.

Then, on September 10, there will the Fujikina, with workshops, photowalks, stage talks and more. We reported about it here with links where you can register for free.

But guys, you don’t have to wait for September 8 or September 10 to have fun, as lots and lots of rumors will drop well before those dates ;)

Nice and original rumors of course ;).

MARK THIS DATE: Fujifilm X Summit NYC 2022 on September 8 at 2PM New York Time

Fujifilm X Summit

The Fujifilm X Summit has just been announced for September 8 at 6PM GMT time. It will take place in New York City.

So definitely mark this date in your calendar:

  • September 8th at 2PM New York Time
  • September 8th at 8PM Berlin Time

The only thing Fujifilm has announced for September is the high resolution Fujifilm X-H2, which we have already shared the price and some specs of.

What else has Fujifilm on their official roadmap for 2022? Let’s look at it:

NOTE: THIS DOES NOT MEAN that it will all drop on September 8. It could well be that Fujifilm will make it an X series exclusive event. Or that they’ll only focus on the Fujifilm X-H2.

Whatever it is, FujiRumors will let you know soon enough.

Rumor Storm Incoming

And you know what?

A terrific rumor storm is about to unleash ahead of September 8, so don’t miss out to read FujiRumors in the next days and weeks ;).

Fujifilm Financial Results for Q1 FY2022: China Lockdowns Hit Digital Camera Sales, but Instax Keeps Rockin’!

Fujifilm shared its first quarter financial results for the fiscal year 2022 (results for April to June 2022).

Revenue and operating income increased by 13.6% and 31.8%, respectively, year-over-year. Although digital cameras were hit by the impact of the lockdown in China, sales of instant photo systems and color photographic paper remained firm.

Instax is king as usual. So let’s skip straight to the part that interests us most: professional imaging.

  • Revenue increased vear-over-vear as the sales recoverv of broadcast camera lenses from the COVID-19 impact offset the negative impact of the lockdown in China mainly on digital cameras.
  • In July 2022, we launched the FUJIFILM X-H2S mirrorless digital camera that boasts the fastest continuous-shooting, Auto Focus and video performance in the history of the X Series, which delivers premium image quality despite being compact and lightweight.

Pretty much they don’t say anything about the Fujifilm X and GFX series, except for saying they launched the X-H2S and a final note that says:

We will continue to offer attractive products by realizing the best balance between image quality and size through the X Series and the highest image quality through the GFX Series.

Sigma CEO Confirms Sigma 18-50mmF2.8 for Fujifilm X mount Coming End of 2022 (Probably December)

It’s a known fact since February 2022 that Sigma plans to release the Sigma 18-50mmF2.8 DC DN Contemporary for Fujifilm X mount within this year.

And FujiRumors already reported how Sigma USA gave a more precise timeline: the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 for X mount will be released in December.

But all those statements were made back in early 2022.

So has something changed? Did the parts shortage or the price increase on those parts due to inflation change the plans at Sigma and possibly even delayed the lens?

Well, I am happy to report that Sigma is still on track to release the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 for X mount within this year.

This has in fact just been confirmed by the Sigma CEO himself, who in the latest Sigma Stage talk video confirmed that the lens is scheduled for “end of 2022 release“.

A little good news for X shooters.

Now let’s hope that they will also keep it gently priced as the Sony E mount version.

“Sony A7IV will Always Have a Special Place in My Heart, But I am Selling All my Sony Gear for Fujifilm X-H2S” and Here is Why

Maybe you have noticed that lately we tried to highlight also reviews from smaller youtube channels, along with the usual big ones.

Now, I won’t enter the discussion on why it seems that at least some of the big channels have a conflictual relationship with the Fujifilm managment, leading them to either ignore Fujifilm cameras (some never reported about the launch of the X-H2S) or to review Fuji gear… how can I say that… to review it not with the same care as they do with other brands.

But that’s not the article, where we want to talk about it.

What you need to know now is: we will keep covering the reviews of huge channels (in case they cover Fujfiilm, but highlight when they make errors like here and here), but also highlight smaller channels every now and then.

Small channels might not have the best studios, lights and audio, but they are often run by truely passionate photographers, who probably shoot more pictures with their gear out on the field than many of the huge channels combined. So their opinion, at least in my eyes, has just the same value the one of massive youtube channel.

So today we talk about TC, who owns the Sony A7IV and lots of lenses, but after his comparison with the Fujifilm X-H2S, he decided to sold off his entire Sony full frame kit. If you want to know why, you can find the video below as well as a summary.

Why are You Scared of PSAM? ;)

Before we go ahead, just a little consideration of myself. Why are you scared of PSAM?

Look, TC switched back to Fujifilm among the others because it has a PSAM dial and he loves it. So now we have a former Sony shooter coming back to the Fujifilm camp thanks to the Fujifilm X-H2S.

And isn’t that what we want? And what Fuji needs? More people shooting with their gear?

What damage does it do to us retro lovers?

Fujifilm has basically already said that there will be a Fujifilm X-T5, X-E5, X-T40, X-Pro4, X100V successor… and all of them with the retro feel we all love. That’s plenty of options that will continue to exist for us.

And now let’s see what motivated TC to sell all his Sony gear to switch to Fujifilm.

Which X Gear Do You Own? (includes Third Party AF lenses) – POLL

This survey is for the 91% of FR-readers who own X series gear.

Not only Fujifilm has launched new cameras and lenses (although sadly many of them are often not available due to parts shortage), but also more third parties are now offering X mount autofocus lenses, for example the (currently discounted) Sigma trinity, the latest Tamron lens, the new Samyang and more.

So I was curious to see how the new entries eventually shifted the ranking of the most owned X gear among the FujiRumors community we made last year here.

Feel free to vote the surveys down below.

  • Important Note: If you pre-ordered any of the gear listed below and just wait to get it shipped, you qualify as owner.
  • Important Note II: I include AF lenses from third party manufacturers

New Fujifilm Patents: Fujinon GF 20-30mmF4, GF 24-50mmF3.5-5.6 and 50-380mmF3.3, 35-280mmF3.3 (Cine Lenses?)

I was debating with myself if I should stop to report about patents at all.

Why?

Because in 10 years of blogging I have shared hundreds of patents on FR, and none has ever seen the light of the day. What I have seen once or twice, is a patent surface only after the real lens had been already announced (making the patent “leak” useless)

The problem?

I notice that when I report about patents, people think this means the patented item will surely come, it’s just a matter of time.

And that’s a problem, because:

So I don’t want to create false hopes by sharing patents, as those are concepts written on paper, and they remain such in 99% of the cases.

On the other hand, this is a rumor site. Those patents exist, even if the products in those patents will never see the light of the day.

So I decided that I will report about patents, but I will put my disclaimers hoping people will read more than just the mere headline.

And today we talk about a couple of GF and probably Cine lens patents surfaced on the web and brought to us thanks to the Japanese website Asobinet here and here.

So let’s look at them one by one below.
