Don’t Panic! No Kaizen-End for Fujifilm X-T20 (yet)… it’s Just More Complicated than You Think! X-E3 Firmware 2x Bigger than X-T20

No Kaizen Death for X-T20 (Yet)

I know that most of you guys read the articles I write from the top to the bottom, and then give great feedback and make interesting questions (I will answer below).

But I also know that sometimes some of you are in a hurry and might just quickly scroll through the FujiRumors news feed while going at work or so, and hence might read just the headline. Or sometimes maybe I was not clear enough, thanks to my wonderful English skills ;)

Anyway, the result is, that after yesterday’s article, some people started to panic a bit: “Kaizen is dead, the X-T20 is obsolete, the end is near, Fuji forgets its customers, Fuji has become like Sony“…. I could read this and more in the FR comments and also on our facebook and twitter pages.

But I think they missed some crucial points of the article…

So breath slowly, relax… and read this:

Sigma 18-35mmF1.8 on Fujifilm X-T2 PDAF Demo (Fringer EF-FX smart adapter prototype)

Fringer just uploaded a video, demonstrating the autofocus speed of the Sigma 18-35mmF1.8 on the Fujifilm X-T2, using the Fringer EF-FX smart adapter prototype, which will be available in several months.

To see how the Canon EF 50mm performs on the Fujifilm X-T2 with the same adapter, check out this article.

Also Steelsring is offering a smart adapter for Canon EF to Fuji X… and they plan to make also Nikon F to Fuji X and GFX smart adapters.

Here is a list of smart adapters available or to come soon.

Fujinon XF80mmF2.8: Sharper is Impossible. Better Than XF90mm… but is it Too Sharp for Portraits?

Up to date, the XF90mmF2 and XF16mmF1.4 are considered to be Fujifilm sharpest lenses on the market. But the Fujinon XF80mmF2.8 is going to raise the bar even higher. That’s at least what we can hear at the German ishootyou youtube, where they already had the opportunity to test the lens.

Interesting to note is that they consider the XF80mm to be too sharp for portraits. Really, how can sharpness be a problem? The reviewer compares it to spicy food. If you make your meal too spicy, you don’t get a nice well-balanced organic taste. A too spicy meal distracts your attention from the real taste of the meal to its spiciness only.

Watch it all here (with image samples), but if you are in a hurry now or do not understand German, you know… I’m a kind guy… so I translated the main points for you down below :)

  • Macro lenses are great allrounders, also for filming, and the XF80mm has great OIS
  • OIS is so good, that you can shoot Macro handheld. Fujifilm has the best OIS that the reviewer knows of
  • Extremely Sharp. Maybe even too sharp for portraits
  • Bokeh on XF90mm is better (round bokeh bolls). On XF80mm it’s has more an egg-form bokeh
  • The clinical sharpness and not optimal bokeh, make the XF90mm still the better choice for portraits. But it’s excellent for Macro, video and still a flexible tool
  • The 80mm raises the bar… and one can only look forward to the performance of future XF lenses

And here are a few more XF80mm reivews and hands on.

  • I get emails from readers linking to this Fujifilm PDF about the Fujifilm Macro extension tubes. I know, we already reported about it back October 12 here :) . The XF 80mm Macro is in the table for MCEX-tubes. With MCEX-16 magnification will be x1.27 at minimal 8cm distance between lens and object.

Fujifilm X-Trans… Myths and Truth

Fujifilm X-Trans sensor is the evil, its design is seriously flawed and it causes all kinds of issues. That’s at least what every now and then pops up on the internet.

Since some of these “X-Trans sucks” comments and articles keep up appearing on the web and are sent to me via email, I decided to invest some hours of my already extremely limited spare time to address this here on FujiRumors and let you guys discuss about it in the comments.

Ok… let’s start!
