Fujifilm X-T3 vs Sony a7III, Buying Fujifilm on a Budget, Lenstip XF16mm f/2.8 review and Much More (Fuji X Cameras/Lens Roundup)

I do receive lots of email requests from fellow Fuji X shooters asking to be featured. And it is my pleasure to cut out regulary a space for you guys here on FujiRumors.

However, the requests are many, and the content on FujiRumors is overall very rich, so sometimes it takes a bit longer to be featured.

But I don’t forget any single one of you, and you’ll all be featured at some point. I just ask for a little bit of patience :).

Top 3 Selling Cameras, Lenses, Software and Accessories for July on FujiRumors

Back in June we had a huge surprise: the Fujifilm GFX100 was selling better than the Fujifilm X-T3.

In fact my sources say pre-orders triple Fujifilm’s forecast and Fujifilm managers officially said here pre-orders are “more than twice” what they expected

So which cameras and lenses take the top spot in terms of sales in July? Check it out below.

Of course, the rankings below are representative only for the FujiRumors community and not for overall sales.

TOP 3 SELLING…

Top Accessories

I bought a SanDisk 128GB Ultra Dual Drive USB Type-C myself during Amazon Prime, and so far I am extremely happy with it. Now I have 1 device that I can use for my MacBook Pro (USB-C) and the ancient computers at my school (USB-3). Both connectors slide completely into the stick, making the whole USB stick very compact at no risk to damage the connectors.

The best thing of all, even after Amazon Prime, there is still a huge discount on the SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive.

The best-selling SD-Card was the Fujifilm recommended Lexar 2000x UHS-II.

Last but not least, the Textured Rubber Non Slip Grip Tape, a useful (and cheap) accessory to add more grip to your smartphone, laptop and camera (especially the GFX100, as you can see here).

Top X Series Cameras

The most surprising fact for me here, is that we find the Fujifilm X-E3 on the third position instead of the Fujifilm X-H1, which in my opinion currently represents the best value for money deal in the entire Fujifilm universe.

Some Fujifilm X-E3 combos are marked as discontinued and we already reported that the X-E3 outsells all its predecessors. This gives good hopes for the X-E line to be kept alive (it was not always like this).

The current $100 discount on X-E3 might help to boost sales even more.

Top XF Lenses

I predict this: the Fujinon XF16-80 will become one of Fujifilm’s best-selling lenses.

I don’t know why Fujifilm does not offer it as a kit lens (hence with a discount if bundled with a camera), but if at some point Fujifilm will decide to offer it as a kit lens, then I think this will boost sales for that lens even more.

For the rest, it seems people’s hunger for 50mm equivalent focal length (including mine) is insatiable.

Top X Mount Third Party Lenses

The Samyang 12mm f/2 enjoyed good sales during Amazon Prime.

The Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 AF is arguably the most interesting third-party X mount lens on the market right now. And you know what? There are 3 more Viltrox AF lenses for Fujifilm X mount coming. Check out all details here.

The Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 has been kicked out of the ranking by a couple of 7Artisans lenses, with the new 60mm f/2.8 macro on top.

Top GFX Gear

Fujifilm GFX 5oS sales are struggling, despite the lower price tag. People seem to prefer either the even cheaper Fujifilm GFX 50R (which is still $500 off) or the brand new Fujifilm GFX 100.

Top G Mount Lenses

The compact Fujinon GF 50mm f/3.5 seems to be a winner for Fujifilm. It is marked as top seller at BHphoto.

The brand new Laowa 17mm f/4 has kicked Fuji’s own wide option, the Fujinon GF23mm f/4, out of the ranking.

Top Software

  1. Luminar 4
  2. Capture One Pro 12 (save 50%)
  3. Adobe Creative Cloud

A great launch deal and the fake sky replacement feature make Luminar 4 the by far best-selling software in July, dethroning Capture One Pro 12, which dominated basically the entire year 2019.

We will see if I can sneak in another trip into what remains of my summer break. If so, make sure to follow my Instagram to see where I am hanging around.

But even if I can’t travel, I live in a wonderful spot of this planet. Beauty is all around me, and my Fuji is always ready to capture it.

My Top 3 Fujinon XF lenses and My Lens Dilemmas: Which one To Sell, and Which one to Buy?

Top 3 Lenses

To be clear, this is NOT a ranking from best to worst, but only a ranking from most to least used lenses. In your style of shooting, you might have completely different priorities.

I currently own 8 X mount lenses, but overall I owned more of them, but as many of you, I had to sell some to buy others.

Here are my currently most used/loved lenses:

  1. XF 35mm f/1.4 as we explained, it has the magic. It will remain on top forever, unless the Fujinon XF33mm f/1.0 comes with a reasonable price tag and a magic touch. It’s not my most used one, but surely my most loved
  2. XF 18-135mm – never without it on my travels. My copy is excellent and I snapped my favorite image of 2018 with it. However, I hear that there is a rather big inconsistency, and some samples come out not that good from the Fuji factory. Sample variation is a common problem amongst all lens manufacturers, but I hear it is particularly big with the XF18-135
  3. XF 10-24mm f/4 –  I live in the middle of some of the most beautiful mountains in the world (and also some of the most photographed), and having wide angle options is just a must for me. The XF10-24 is with me all the time in my day or weekend trips. capturing marvellously my lakes and my impressive mountains. However when I pack for a travels (which happens once or twice a year), I always have the 18-135 in my bag, and in order to save space and weight, I sometimes prefer to take the Samyang 12 with me as wide option
  4. XF 27mm f/2.8 – if I leave my apartment for a random “switch of my mind from all that work” shoot or on travels (youtube video), than the XF27mmf/2.8 is the one. It’s my lens for casual shooting
  5. Samyang 12mmF2 – my top wide solution for travels and astrophotography and often in my travel bag. It’s only on the 5th position, but it’s a lens I am happy to keep and find very useful in my lineup
  6. XF 23mm f/1.4 – a great performer, and it’s a shame I don’t use it that much anymore, but with the 35/1.4 and 27/2.8 always in my bag, the 23/1.4 finds little space in there. But I will always be greatful for this lens, because it took some of my favorite images of all time, including the image of the new-born baby of SonyAlphaRumors. SAR was photographing with his FF Sony, me with my X-T1 and 23/1.4. Then we compared the images, and we had a clear winner: the Fuji :). I passed SAR the image, and he sent it to friends and family via email. I told about this in this article.
  7. XF 18-55 – the only problem of this lens, is that the XF18-135 exists.
  8. XF 55-200 – I loved this lens so much when I bought it, and I still do. I used it mainly for photographing animals like in this image. And I also still take some candid portrait shot with it. But once again the XF18-135 is to blame that it mainly stays at home

It’s hard to justify keeping the XF18-55 and XF55-200 any longer, but it’s also so hard to sell them.

However….

… another option could be to get the brand new Fujinon XF16-80mmF4, sell my XF18-135 and XF18-55, and at that point stay with the XF16-80 and XF55-500.

I have watched through my 18-135 image EXIF data, and discovered that I hardly use it at its long end anyway. My favorite image of 2018 for example was taken with the 18-135 at 70mm.

Also, a photography genre I have basically ignored until now, is macrophotography. I think it could give me a creative and motivational boost to try out something completely new. So I could sell two lenses and get the XF60mm or XF80mm (but I am afraid the 80 is a bit too “Pro” for my skills)

Decisions… :)

But something must go, since I have to start funding my still very meager XF33mm f/1.0 piggy bank, which has been drained recently due to my marriage.

Which brings me to the next problem: any idea guys how I can convince my wife that we need more lenses? ;)

take care,

Fujifilm X-H2 and Fujifilm X-T4: How Should Fujifilm Time their Release? POLL

Fujifilm X-H2 and Fujifilm X-T4

A Fujifilm manager recently said it here: the Fujifilm X-H line will continue to evolve separately from the Fujifilm X-T line.

To me that makes sense, both lines appeal to different type of photographers, and both lines have all the potential to be successful in future.

But the big question is: in order for both the X-H2 and X-T4 to be successful, how should Fujifilm time their release?

The FujiRumors community is pretty split on this topic, so I thought I launch a poll to see what most of you guys think is strategically the best move. And keep in mind, as proven multiple times, Fujifilm manager do read you! So, vote wisely and comment elegantly ;).

NOTE: Fujifilm has said multiple times that one of their goals is to bring IBIS into smaller cameras, so I guess this means they will try to give us a Fuji X-T4 with IBIS. Keep this in mind when voting.

The Rise of Chinese Lenses and Top 7 Chinese Fujifilm X Mount Lenses

The Rise of Chinese Lenses

In the last few weeks, we covered a couple of new Chinese Fujifilm X mount lenses here on FujiRumors, such as the brand new 7Artisans 60mm F2.8 1:1 Macro and the Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 MK II.

In 2019, a lot of buzz has been created also by the first third-party reverse-engineered autofocus X mount lens, the Chinese Viltrox 85mmF1.8, whereas in 2018 the Lawoa 9mm f/2.8 was the very best seller here on FujiRumors (yep, it sold better than ANY Fujinon XF lens amongst FR-readers).

Chinese lenses: the price is (mostly) low, the quality goes up and the sales explode!

Here are the best selling ones.

  1. Meike 35mm f/1.7
  2. Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 AF
  3. Neewer 25mm f/1.8
  4. 7Artisans 35mm f/1.2
  5. Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 MKII
  6. Meike MK 25mm F1.8
  7. Meike MK-35mm F/1.4

It looks like the lable “made in China” is no longer something photographers are too skeptical of.

Today I’d like to ask you if you own any of these lenses, and if you want, you can share your feedback in the comments down below. Your feedback might be helpful for the rest of the Fujifilm community.

TESTED: Fujifilm X Mount Kamlan 21mm f/1.8 and Kamlan 50mm f/1.1, Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 AF, 7artisans 35mm f/1.2 and More

Fujifilm X Third Party Lenses

There is such a vast choice of native Fujifilm X mount lenses out there, that here on FujiRumors we have to dedicate them an apposite roundup.

In most cases we are talking of manual focus lenses, but also autofocus options are hitting the market.

The Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 is the first AF lens for Fujifilm (and FujiRumors delivered the worldwide first autofocus test about it). And we already reported in this article, that Viltrox is considering to launch 3 more AF lenses for Fujifilm soon. For all the details (focal length/aperture) about the upcoming Viltrox AF lenses for Fuji X, check out this article.

Since its launch, the Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 is the best selling third party lens here on FujiRumors.

Today’s roundup includes also a review about the brand new Kamlan 21mm f/1.8, which comes with a gentle price tag, and seems to perform remarkably for what it costs.

Other lenses included in todays roundup are the 7Artisans 60mm f/2.8 Macro, Kamlan 50mm f/1.1, a couple of Mitakon X mount lenses and much more.

Updated Fujifilm 2019/2020 Camera and Lens Release Timeline

Fujifilm Timeline

It’s high time to update our older Fujifilm 2019/2020 camera and lens release timeline.

This is just an approximate timeline and expect to see updates to this list over the next few weeks and months.

For now, this is mainly just an update to the list we shared back in January.

All rumors are as always exclusive FujiRumors.com information. When I just make some guess, I will highlight that for you in the notes.

  • IMPORTANT NOTE: We are talking about release timeline, not announcement timeline.

How Many Lenses a Year?

  • as we told you here, at the current pace and current resources, Fujifilm can release about 2/3 GF and 2/3 XF lenses a year
  • the list below contains 1 XF and 1 GF lens
  • hence we can expect to see 1/2 more XF and 1/2 more GF lenses to join the list
  • Fujifilm has given up options to vote which lenses should come next

Fall 2019

Coming 2020

Expect 1 or 2 more X as well as GF lenses. My guess:

  • GF 21mm F4 Tilt Shift
  • XF 10mm F2

Probably NOT Coming 2019/2020

* our sources say it will not be released in 2019, and probably not even in 2020. But Fujifilm managers confirmed here, that the X-H line will continue

Top Possible Bonus Gear in 2020

* based on this old rumor rumor
** wishful thinking based on XF10 disappointment
