According to fresh rumors we have received also the mother of all lenses, the Fujinon GF 80mm f/1.7 will come in early 2021!

FujiRumors has already covered the lens in the past. We shared:

Well, now we know also when it will arrive: early 2021.

I have the feeling that a wonderful lens is coming our way. A lens that next year DPReview will not be able to ignore in their awards declaration. ;)

Hold on guys, as more rumors will come ;).

Fujinon XF27mm F2.8 MK II Coming Early 2021 with Fujifilm X-E4

Fujinon XF27mmF2.8 MK II

It had to happen this way!

According to our trusted sources, Fujifilm decided to launch the Fujinon XF27mmF2.8 MK II along with the Fujifilm X-E4. Both will be announced in early 2021.

This makes a lot of sense, as the XF27mm pancake prime is the perfect fit for a camera so small and portable as the X-E series.

I own both, the X-E3 and XF27mmF2.8, and I am looking forward to both, the X-E4 and XF27mmF2.8 MK II.

Will I buy both?

I don’t know yet.

I am so happy with my X-E3, that the X-E4 needs to have a couple of new nice features in order to convince me to get rid of my X-E3 for the X-E4. A simple tilt screen (please no selfie-stuff), a combined ISO/shutter dial as on X100V and X-Pro3, all the latest film simulations and autofocus algorithm… give me all that, and it will be hard for me to resist to it.

The new XF27mmF2.8 MK II instead needs just one thing: an aperture ring! Give me that, and I am all-in!

And even though I have no additional rumors about the XF27mmF2.8 MK II for now, I will probably sell my current 27mm just before the new one hits the market and the old one inevitably loses value.

It’s an act of faith: Fujifilm originally planned the XF27mmF2.8 to come with an aperture ring (as you can see in images we share in the past), and I have faith (no information, just faith) that Fujifilm will put the aperture ring back in the new 27mm.

DO NOT PANIC

Yes, I know, when Fujifilm released the latest X mount roadmap, the XF27mmF2.8 II was not included in the list of new lenses.

But you might have missed it, how, ahead of the new X mount roadmap, I warned you here: the XF27mmF2.8 MK II is coming, but won’t be on the new roadmap.

You don’t have to, but I strongly invite you to trust me: the XF27mmF2.8 MK II is coming, and today we know it will come along with the X-E4.

Trust me, guys ;)

Black Friday

Black Friday officially starts on November 27, but it looks like Amazon was rather impatient, and already put its Black Friday pages live.

Tokina ATX-M 23mmF1.4 and 33mmF1.4 Pre-Order Available Soon and Release on December 11

Tokina for Fujifilm X Mount

Back in March Tokina announced the release of three lenses for Fujifilm X mount, the Tokina atx-m 23mm f/1.4, the Tokina atx-m 33mm f/1.4 and the Tokina atx-m 56mm f/1.4.

Now, as reported by nokishita, the first two lenses will be announced very soon and start shipping on December 11. The lenses will be:

  • Tokina atx-m 23mm f/1.4
  • Tokina atx-m 33mm f/1.4

Viltrox vs Tokina: Same Same, but Different

We already discussed about the fact if the new Tokina lenses are just rebranded Viltrox lenses. Lots of things seem indeed to indicate that they are indeed just rebranded versions of the same lens.

However, there is a difference we should not overlook.

Viltrox started to release AF lenses for Fujifilm by reverse engineering the X mount AF lens protocols. There was no official cooperation with Fujifilm and we have reported in the past about some bugs with Viltrox lenses, that to be fair Viltrox usually worked hard on to fix, but that’s the downside of not having any direct access to the protocols.

That’s different with Tokina. In fact, shortly after Tokina announced its new three Fuji X mount lenses, Fujifilm made a statement that they opened their lens protocols and that Tokina is the first to profit from it.

By having access to Fuji’s AF lens protocols, it should be easier for Tokina to develop fast, stable and bug-free lenses that work smoothly with Fujifilm cameras and always stay up to date with Fuji’s latest autofocus algorithm changes.

I don’t know if in the meantime also Viltrox got access to Fuji’s AF lens protocols.

What I do hope, though, is that Sigma will. And there was already and official and totally public statement that Sigma made very recently, that gives us hope. Read more down below.

Fujinon XF70-300mm F4-5.6 Possibly with 67mm Filter Size

We recently published a size comparison here between the upcoming Fujinon XF70-300mm f/4-5.6 and other longer Fujinon X telephoto zooms.

In that article, we reported how FR-reader Fujiste calculated a filter size of 72mm.

Now FR-reader Xandros contacted me with his own calculations of the filter size, and according to him the filter size should be of 67mm. You can see his measurements in the image above.

As for its overall size, here on FujiRumors we calculated the length of the Fujinon XF70-300mm f/4-5.6, and we saw that it is roughly 1.5 cm longer than the Fujinon XF55-200mm f/3.5-4.8.

I guess the very compact size of the XF70-300mm f/4-5.6 will make it the strongest competitor to the good old XF55-200mm, and that’s probably the reason why Fujifilm is now heavily discounting the XF55-200mm.

What a nice lens Fujifilm gave us here!

Sigma Says DC DN Lenses for Fujifilm X Mount will Hopefully Come in 2021

Here on FujiRumors we often discussed the wish for Sigma to make Fujifilm X mount lenses.

However, up until today Sigma has officially always kept a rather pessimistic position on that.

In fact, here are some of Sigma’s past statements:

Sigma CEO said here:

Fujifilm Customers Would be Our Ideal Customer, but Fujifilm Does Not Disclose Their Protocols

Sigma CEO said here:

Our Mission is to Support as Many Systems as Possible, but our engineering resources are limited, so we need to prioritize projects, depending on the demand from the customer

On Fujifilm’s side, initially top managers said this here:

Fujifilm does not need to share X mount protocols with third-parties, since we offer already lots of glass

But I guess the pressure coming from the Fujifilm community was big enough, to make them change opinion later on:

We Open X Mount to Third Parties […] Kenko Tokina actually already announced three lenses for X-mount, with autofocus […] Many customers want more lenses, and we want to satisfy that need

Last but not least, here is one of the rumors we shared back in 2018:

SIGMA Will Make FUJIFILM X Mount lenses if X series Camera Sales Increase by 20%

Well, today, for the first time, we have an official Sigma statement that allows us for the first time to have hope Sigma X mount lenses could come.

In fact, when fellow FR-reader Rob (thanks for letting me know) wrote to Sigma that he can’t wait for X mount DC DN lenses, and there is no excuses not to make them since Fujifilm released their AF protocols, Sigma answered publicly on their official social media channels:

Hopefully we’ll see such in 2021.

But still be careful: they say “hopefully”, so nothing is yet set in stone.

In the past we did launch a massive survey, where we listed all Sigma lenses and did let you vote on which one you’d like to get also for Fujifilm X mount. Your top 10 Sigma-wishes turned out to be the following ones:

  1. Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM
  2. Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM
  3. Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary
  4. Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary
  5. Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN Art
  6. Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM
  7. Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM
  8. Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary
  9. Sigma 500mm f/4 DG OS HSM
  10. Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art

If you want, you can check out and still vote the full survey here.

Crossing fingers some of the them will come also for Fuji X mount in 2021!
