Merry X-Mas…. and 5 Big Thank You to…

SD-card ready? Fully charged battery, too? Is your X-camera updated with the latest firmware? If the answer is YES, YES and YES, then all that remains me is to wish you, and to the people you love, a merry X-mas and happy holidays… and take some great shots with your X today ;-) .

And… I also would like to grab the occasion to say 5 highly deserved “Thank You” (in no particular order)

The 5 Big Thank You

  1. Thank you to all sources, from the anonmyous to the trusted, who shared correct information. I’m really greatful to have you on board of FujiRumors. You guide me safely through the stormy Fuji waters and allow me to share this exciting ride with all the fellow X-shooters out there. I hope we can keep up this journey also in 2017 :)
  2. If FujiRumors is always the first site to break the news, then it’s because of every single one of you guys, who spotted an interesting news, rumor, deal, review, curiosity, and shared it with me. I can’t find all these information alone… so your contribution is vital to keep the blog updated super-fast in real time.
  3. This year I started a new guest post feature. I’d like to thank everybody, who invested his/her time and shared his/her story… and also for the patience and cooperation in those cases, when we had to sort out some plug-in bugs.
  4. FujiRumors would be a lonely place, if there wasn’t such a huge community around it. And therefore I’d like to say thanks to everybody, who participated by sharing a guest post, commenting, sharing on social media, voting the Polls, or simply stop by here and check out the content.
  5. A blog can not run with only heart and soul… at the end of the day I also have to pay the bills generated by the growing costs of this site. And I frankly could close FujiRumors tomorrow morning, if there weren’t some X-shooters out there, who decide to support FR by purchasing their gear via FujiRumors shoplinks (BHphoto, Amazon & Co), click on the banners or make donations. Thank you!

Merry X-mas

Jonas Rask: The Fujifilm GFX is Clever, ACROS is Magic and X-T2 or X-Pro2?… and a Lecture About Streetphotography

We had so much rumors and gear talk lately, that sometimes it can give the impression that photography is more about the gear than about the image. So I thought it’s time to bring the FujiRumors-Universe in the right balance again, and share something that brings us back to the real heart of photography: the image.

And I’d like to do this with Jonas Rask’s (jonasraskphotography.com) lecture about his Street photography. He shows some of his amazing images, talks about composition and shares his take on photography in general. But he also talks about vintage lenses and what can we expect of the Fujifilm GFX. You can find the video at Fujifilm Nordic.

The video is 1:10 hours long. I’ve watched and enjoyed it all. The best part is when he talks about how he took his shots and the reasoning behind each of them. But it’s difficult to sum it up in short here on FujiRumors, so I will just share a few excerpts about more gear related thoughts.

  • X-Pro2 or X-T2? Jonas prefers the X-Pro2, because it fits his style better, especially due to the hybrid viewfinder (he shoots mainly street photography) – starts min. 31:40
  • ACROS: Jonas is a big fan! It’s impossible to emulate in Lightroom in post, because what it actually does in camera, is that it analizes the highlights of the image and adjust the grain there, then it analizes the midtones and adjust the grain there, and the same happens with the shadows. That’s why Jonas, when shooting BW, he just uses the ACROS JPEG. – starts 36:40
  • Fujifilm GFX: Jonas just tested it briefly at photokina. It’s lighter and smaller than the Nikon D810. The lenses are bright, and you could probably do documentary stuff with the GFX, because you can have fast shutters speeds because of the fast aperture, reducing shakes. The GFX has 12 electrical pins, which should make it possible to adapt many old lenses, including leaf shutter lenses (very clever) – starts min 52:38

The Fujifilm X Series Cameras are quite unique in their operation and look of the images they produce. Here are some tips I have picked up from my time with the Fujifilm X-Pro2. Most of the tips will apply to all of the X Series, but some may be more specific to the X-Pro2.

Setting Lightroom Defaults Specific to your Fuji Camera
Where the X cameras really shine and beat out the competition is in their colour rendition. It is mentioned in nearly every review you read and it was the primary reason I switched to Fuji. The different film profiles give you more options and creativity when shooting but you will notice that if you are shooting RAW, you lose those profiles once you import them into Lightroom.

This is because Lightroom is applying it’s own Camera Calibration/Colour Profile by default when you import your Fuji files and is disregarding all of that hard work that Fuji has put into their colour. There is no automatic way to retain the specific colour profile you chose when you were shooting, but you can set your default profile in Lightroom to Provia (or whatever profile you shoot most in) so that you are at least starting from one of Fuji’s bases and not Adobe’s.

To change this default setting in Lightroom:
