Fujinon XF27mm F2.8 MK II Coming Early 2021 with Fujifilm X-E4

It had to happen this way!

According to our trusted sources, Fujifilm decided to launch the Fujinon XF27mmF2.8 MK II along with the Fujifilm X-E4. Both will be announced in early 2021.

This makes a lot of sense, as the XF27mm pancake prime is the perfect fit for a camera so small and portable as the X-E series.

I own both, the X-E3 and XF27mmF2.8, and I am looking forward to both, the X-E4 and XF27mmF2.8 MK II.

Will I buy both?

I don’t know yet.

I am so happy with my X-E3, that the X-E4 needs to have a couple of new nice features in order to convince me to get rid of my X-E3 for the X-E4. A simple tilt screen (please no selfie-stuff), a combined ISO/shutter dial as on X100V and X-Pro3, all the latest film simulations and autofocus algorithm… give me all that, and it will be hard for me to resist to it.

The new XF27mmF2.8 MK II instead needs just one thing: an aperture ring! Give me that, and I am all-in!

And even though I have no additional rumors about the XF27mmF2.8 MK II for now, I will probably sell my current 27mm just before the new one hits the market and the old one inevitably loses value.

It’s an act of faith: Fujifilm originally planned the XF27mmF2.8 to come with an aperture ring (as you can see in images we share in the past), and I have faith (no information, just faith) that Fujifilm will put the aperture ring back in the new 27mm.

DO NOT PANIC

Yes, I know, when Fujifilm released the latest X mount roadmap, the XF27mmF2.8 II was not included in the list of new lenses.

But you might have missed it, how, ahead of the new X mount roadmap, I warned you here: the XF27mmF2.8 MK II is coming, but won’t be on the new roadmap.

You don’t have to, but I strongly invite you to trust me: the XF27mmF2.8 MK II is coming, and today we know it will come along with the X-E4.

Black Friday

Black Friday officially starts on November 27, but it looks like Amazon was rather impatient, and already put its Black Friday pages live.

 

 

Fujifilm X-S10 in Stock Now and Fujinon XF50mmF1.0 Still Backordered

Good news: a limited number of Fujifilm X-S10 is now in stock at AmazonUS here (1 left at the time of this post) and at Adorama here.

Bad news: the Fujinon XF50mm f/1.0 is still hard to find. BHphoto & Co shipped a few samples a few weeks ago. But since then it run out of stock and is still on backorder. I understand that Fujifilm was totally surprised by the high demand for this lens, but I wish Fuji would finally be able to ship it to all of you guys, who pre-ordered it and now patiently wait for it.

Fujifilm X-S10 Firmware 1.01 Released

Fujifilm has released firmware 1.01 for Fujifilm X-S10 cameras.

The firmware update Ver.1.01 from Ver.1.00 incorporates the following issue:

  • The phenomenon is fixed that while the microphone/remote release connector is used, a camera doesn’t work well in a specific condition. If you use a microphone or a remote release, make sure to upgrade the firmware.

LEAKED: First Images, Price and Specs of Tokina Fujifilm X Mount Lenses

Nokishita leaked the first images and specs of the upcoming Tokina lenses for Fujifilm X mount here. The lenses will be released on December 11.

All details below:

Tokina atx-m 23mm F1.4

  • 60,500 yen including tax (converted this makes $582. The Viltrox 33mmF1.4 costs 35,900 yen at Amazon Japan)
  • 11 elements in 10 groups (same of Viltrox 23mmF1.4)
  • minimum focus distance 0.3m
  • filter size 52mm

  • maximum magnification 0.1 times

Tokina atx-m 33mm F1.4

  • 53,800 yen including tax (converter this makes $518. The Viltrox 33mmF1.4 costs 30,000 yen at Amazon Japan)
  • 10 elements in 9 groups (same of Viltrox 33mmF1.4)
  • minimum focus distance 0.4m
  • filter size 52mm

As already for the Viltrox 85mmF1.8 and the Tokina 85mmF1.8, also in this case we are just in front of the same re-branded lens. In fact, as we reported in this article, Ben said:

Tokina and Viltrox are both working with a well established 3rd party Chinese lens manufacturer that creates prototypes and allows other companies to customize and sell their lenses under their own brand names.

And yet, even though they might be optically the same, there could be one crucial difference between both lenses that we reported about it here: Tokina has access to official Fujifilm AF lens protocols, and I am not sure if Viltrox has, too (they surely had not, when they started making X mount lenses).

Metabones has released the Canon-EF version of the 1.26x Format Expander for the Fujifilm GFX.

Vancouver, Canada, November 16, 2020 – Will this full-frame EF mount lens sufficiently cover the medium format sensor of Fujifilm GFX cameras? With Metabones® EF-GFX Smart Expander™, the answer is always “yes”.

Multiplying the focal length by 1.26x and the F-number by the same amount, Metabones EF-GFX Smart Expander perfectly matches the image circle of full-frame EF mount lenses to the medium-format sensor of the GFX series cameras, with the diagonal field-of-view (FoV) remaining exactly the same.

The optical design consists of 5 elements in 3 groups, incorporating ultra-high index Lanthanum-based optical glass as well as one element made of fused silica, resulting in extremely good performances with professional-grade zoom lenses. For example, a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens becomes a 30-88mm f/3.5 zoom, and a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens becomes an 88-252mm f/3.5 zoom.  And perhaps most exciting of all, the 11-24mm f/4 Canon becomes an extremely sharp 13.8-30.2mm f/5 without any disturbing vignetting or corner aberrations. Due to the nature of focal extenders, the aperture values decrease by 2/3 of a stop; f/2.8 becomes f/3.5 and f/2 becomes f/2.5. High-speed fixed focal length lenses such as the 50mm f/1.4 will be transformed into a very fast 63mm f/1.8 standard lens for the GFX system.
