FUJIFILM explains Why They Don’t Need FULL FRAME and says Fujifilm X-T3 sales Pretty Good Compared to X-T2

Fujifilm Interviews

Cinema5D had a talk with Fujifilm’s product planer for X-H and X-T line and Jaques chatted with Fuji Guy Francis.

You can read the key points of their conversation and see the videos down below.

  • Fujifilm X-T3 sales are pretty good compared to X-T2 and X-T1 [NOTE: to me that sounds like “better” than X-T2, which is awesome!]
  • His impression (no statsitc) is that the X-T3 is used 80% still photographers and 20% videographers
  • He explains the upcoming firmware updates we reported here
  • Fujifilm X-H1 will get hybrid OIS-IBIS via firmware update

Fujifilm Full Frame

Recently, top manager Toshihisa Iida said Fujifilm will never go full frame.

To me, the word “never” should never be used ;), but since the big boss said it, all the Fuji Guys can freely talk about it, and no longer hide behind vague formulations like “we always watch at the market but we consider APS-C the sweet-spot” etc.

Now the message is clear:

  • do you want full frame? Go elsewhere
  • do you want super full frame? Go Fujifilm GFX
  • do you want the best balance between size, price and performance? Go Fujifilm X

Now, Fuji Guy Francis explains to Jacques Gaines (video below), why Fujifilm will not go full frame. The key points:

  • Fuji does not need full frame frame
  • The jump from APS-C to FF was too small of a gap in terms of image quality, so they went medium format
  • everyone goes full frame, and it saturates that market
  • Fujifilm is fine in the APS-C market and keeps up pushing it
  • Fujifilm does not have to separate its customers base between APS-C and Full Frame
  • on Fujifilm noise is texture, and not (color) artifacts [NOTE: I guess he refers to the more film-like grain at high ISO thanks to the X-Trans sensor]

And while he had no problems to answer the full frame question, he seems struggling a bit more to explain the differences between X-T3 and X-H1, or better, why people should get the Fujifilm X-H1 over the X-T3. Check out the videos below.
