Fujifilm GFX 50S Vs. Pentax 645Z Vs. Canon 5DSR

Fujifilm GFX Vs Canon 5DSR Vs Pentax 645Z

I thought it’s time to take a break from all the rumors surrounding the imminent launch of the Fujifilm X-H1, X-A5, X-A20, XC15-45 and more, and dive into the Fujifilm GFX 50S medium format world.

This time the Fujifilm GFX 50S with GF 63mmF2.8 has to battle against the Canon 5DSR with Sigma 50mmF1.4 Art vs Pentax 645z with Pentax 55mmF2.8, all 50MP cameras.

But who will be the winner?

The video above has been shared at Sonder Creative Youtube (who is also a member of our GFX group). Some highlights:

  • Sharpness Fujinon lenses win hands down. Sharp from edge to edge even wide open.
  • He prefers Canon colors, but it’s a personal preference. More accurate and warmer colors.
  • Canon focusses faster in low light
  • He wants even wider aperutre lenses than the GF 110mmF2. FF has shallower DOF because of the fast lenses available.
  • DR on Canon sucks, so he used the A7rIII in this test
  • DR on Pentax is best, better than GFX, even if same sensor. Sony A7rII much worst
  • Pentax is ugly but user friendly
  • GFX EVF little lag to switch on

About my New Fujifilm X-E3 and About JPEG only in Full Auto Mode

Fujifilm X-E3… All Good :)

As you might know, back in December 2017 I purchased a silver X-E3 as well as two Fujinon lenses. I have explained in a first impression article why I picked the X-E3 and not the X-T20, X-T2 or even the Fujifilm X-H1. You can read it here.

I also told you, though, that I was having 2 issues with my X-E3

  • sticky joystick
  • SD-card not recognized sometimes

Of course I didn’t make a big drama out of it. I just went to my local store and asked for replacement.

Sadly, it took them almost a month to get a new X-E3, because of the holidays and also because they said the X-E3 is selling well, so Fujifilm is a bit slow in delivering and fulfilling the demand.

But now it’s here, my new Fujifilm X-E3, and this time it comes all in black.

I promised you an update, as soon as I get my new X-E3, and here it is: I am happy to report that, at least until now, everything seems to work just fine. The joystick isn’t sticky and the SD-card has, so far, always been recognized by the camera.

X-E3 Review?

I will see if I can find some time to write a comprehensive review, but time is not really what I have at the moment, since basically almost every spare minute of my life goes into FujiRumors, due to the imminent announcements of the Fujifilm X-A5 and XC15-45 on January 31 and the huge announcement of the Fujifilm X-H1 on February 15.

The weeks after that, will be even more busy, in order to cover properly all the Fujifilm X-H1 news and reviews here on FujiRumors.

But I’m excited by the good stuff coming from Fujifilm, so I’m 100% motivated to give you guys the best Fujifilm coverage in the known universe ;) .

Auto Geotagging

The review might come later… but for now…

… I have written a detailed article about one of the new features of the Fujifilm X-E3, the auto-geotagging.

I have received great feedback about it and many readers told me it helped them to make it work not only properly, but also quickly. Feel free to read it here.

I switched from Nikon to Fujifilm in late 2014 and haven’t looked back since. Love the performance, look and feel of the Fuji cameras/glasses, the excellent JPEG handling with beautiful colors and film simulations and of course, the Kaizen updates. For a few years now I have photographed music in terms of performances, shows and concerts. The Fujisystem suits my needs for this very well and it’s a joy to use!

The current lenses works great but…

Fujifilm Vs. Nikon, Canon, Sony, Olympus Shootout :: Why Other Camera Manufacturers Should Be More Like Fuji :: & More (miXed zone)

Prosumer Shootout

Hardwarezone compared the Fujifilm X-T2, Canon EOS M5, Nikon D500, Sony A6500 and Olympus EM1 MK2 in their 2017 shootout. And the winner is… the Fujifilm X-T2. In their conclusions they say

Given how well the Nikon D500 performed in last year’s test, this was a much closer result than we expected. However, the Fujifilm X-T2 consistently turned in better images with better detail and less noise in all the situations we put it in. The inclusion of the focus-selector joystick helped both in terms of selecting focus points and with navigation of menus, letting it bridge the gap in usability compared to the competition. And while it doesn’t have the biggest buffer, the ability to go for 42 frames at 14 fps is certainly sufficient when you add the scary accuracy of the camera’s autofocus system.

It’s also able to produce 4K videos with support for output to external monitors and audio monitoring, making a better all-rounder. The support for dual cards also gives it an advantage over the A6500 for professionals, as it allows for immediate in-camera backup of your images. Compared to the D500, it’s also about S$400 cheaper while offering the same level of weather sealing and robustness, so with all the right boxes checked, we declare the Fujifilm X-T2 the winner of this shootout.
