Really Right Stuff Improves L-Plate for Fujifilm GFX 50S

Back on January 30, Fujifilm GFX member Clive told us here, that Really Right Stuff has redesigned its L-Plate for Fujifilm GFX 50S. The new design allows to access the batter without having to remove the L-plate from the camera.

So far the good the news. The bad news however, is that if you purchased the previous L-plate and want to get the new version, you will not get any discount on the new one.

“Really Right Stuff has confirmed that its new L-plate for the GFX 50s no longer requires the locking screw to be unscrewed and the bottom plate to be completely removed in order to fully open the battery door. Unfortunately, no discount is being offered by RRS to those customers who bought the previous version of the L-plate, which wasn’t really fit for purpose, and now wish to switch to the workable version.”

You can get the RSS L-Plate for Fujifilm GFX at BHphoto and RRS.

Profoto Air Remote TTL-F Compatible with Fujifilm X-H1 and X-T20 Support Coming in April

Currently, the Profoto Air Remote TTL-F supports Fujifilm GFX 50S, X-T2, X-Pro2 and X100F, but as we told you back in December, they announced support for further Fujifilm cameras.

Well, besides the Fujifilm X-H1, which is compatible out of the box with the Air Remote TTL-F, Profoto announced that Fujifilm will release a firmware upgrade in April to make it compatible also with the Fujifilm X-T20.

Would be great if they could add also support for X-T1, but at this point we can be fairly pessimistic that this won’t happen.

REMINDER: The Fujifilm X-T20 will get a massive firmware update in April, that is definitely worth to be called a “Kaizen update”. We have shared the full details of the X-T20 update here.

Fujifilm X-H1 Development Story #2 -Frame Pt.2 – Heat Dissipation, IBIS and Shutter Shock Reduction

The second episode of the Fujifilm X-H1 development story is now online. Just as the first episode, it is still focused on the X-H1 frame, more precisely on heat dissipation and on how Fujifilm minimized shutter shock. They also talk a bit about IBIS, but they say they will publish a more in depth article in future episodes.

Amongst the others we discover that:

“Realizing the first IBIS to be installed on the X Mount was a big challenge on its own, but our top priority is image quality, so we aimed for the highest standard from the get-go. This was not only a challenge for the IBIS development team, but also for the exterior design team.

[…] The sensor unit are not grounded to a surface, so it becomes more sensitive to shocks. Higher levels of shock countermeasures are required.

In short, the transmittance of shocks should be canceled to overcome the problem, but the shutter unit is right in front of the sensor. How could it possibly be done?

Spring was our answer. The shutter unit is suspended with five springs so they act as a shock absorber when the shutter is pressed. With this, vibration is not transmitted to other devices inside the camera The tension of each of these five springs is different because the impact on each of the 5 points is different when the shutter is pressed. The effect of this countermeasure is astounding.

[…] The X-H1 has a larger heat sink to efficiently dissipate the heat generated by the processor to the outside. And by transferring the heat absorbed by the heat sink to the front and back of the camera and by securing more surface area, the heat is released to the outside of the camera in much quicker time.”

Fujifilm X-H1: Media Slides + 5 Little Things That Make the it That Much Better

Fujifilm X-H1 Media Slides

Once again, Fujifilm has improved the AF-algorithm on the Fujifilm X-H1, making it Fujifilm best camera for autofocus tracking and low light focussing.

What we have for you today, are some media slides, that illustrate the AF improvement and that highlight the difference between the Fujifilm X-H1 and the Fujifilm X-T2.

But there is more.

I will also attach other Fujifilm X-H1 slides, including an even more accurate table of the IBIS efficiency, where you can see that the XF35mmF1.4 actually has an average of 5.7 stops of stabilization!

Speaking of media slides, there are a lot more of them in Anthony Thurstons’ article5 Little Things That Make the Fujifilm X-H1 That Much Better“. I will share a few of Anothony’s media slides below and integrate them with some that are not included in his google fotos drive.

Overall the slides demonstrate how many areas Fujifilm has improved over the X-T2, and of course we all cross fingers that, where possible, some of these improvements will come to X-T2 & Co via firmware update.

ETERNA for Fujifilm X-T2  & Co in LR

In the recent (and fantastic) TCSTV Fujifilm X-H1 live stream, Fuji Guy Billy said that ETERNA on Fujifilm X-T2 is very possible via firmware update in future, hence (almost) confirming our rumor of December 7 here.

But if you own the latest version of Lightroom, you can already now see how your X-TransIII files look with the ETERNA film simulation applied.

Follow these simple steps:

  • Download an EXIF Editor
  • Change the X-T2, X-Pro2, X-T20, X-E3 or X100F EXIF camera name of your image to “X-H1” using the EXIF Editor
  • Load your EXIF manipulated image in Lightroom Classic CC 7.2
  • ETERNA will be available in your Lightroom camera calibration menu
  • Smile :)

This “hack” is available already since a few days now, when Adobe added X-H1 support.

Will you try it? Then feel free to share your images and your findings here in the comments :)
