STC Optics Clip-in Filters for Fujifilm X and GFX Series

Fujifilm Clip-in Filters

STC Optics, an Asian brand that manufactures various kinds of filters, said that clip-in filters for Fujifilm X series cameras are “coming soon“. In the video above they also show a clip filter for GFX, but so far no indications about it on their website.

As far as I know, STC Optics would be the first brand to release such filters for Fujifilm cameras. Other well known brands include Astro Hutech and Astronomik.

The fact that you attach the filter in front of the sensor instead of on in front of the lens, gives several advantages:

  • no need to buy big filter holders for lenses with protruding lens elements, such as fisheye-lenses for Fujifilm X or lenses like the Fujinon XF 8-16mmf/2.8
  • one filter works for all lenses, no matter what the lens filter size is
  • saves you money, since you do not have to buy lots of different filters
  • they are a good replacement for HSS (see video below)

STC Optics offers ND 16, 64, 400 and 1000.

Clip-in filters are very popular in the astrophotography community, especially light pollution and narrow-band filters, because they can work with both camera lenses and telescopes.

This is a good news for Fujifilm users, because Fujifilm cameras are very good for astro work, due to their superior sensitivity to some wavelengths (like hydrogen alpha, that most of the nebulae are made of) and good ISO performances.

DJI Ronin S to add Fujifilm X-T3 Support

DJI Ronin S

The DJI Ronin S is a very popular 3-Axis Gimbal stabilizer (check out the AmazonUS customer reviews), and so it is no surprise that I keep up getting questions about if it finally will support Fujifilm cameras.

Finally today I can give you an answer. :)

FR-reader Mario (Instagram at @ummario) informed me that DJI now officially said on their forum, they are working on a firmware update to add Fujifilm X-T3 support.

I looks like the stellar Fujifilm X-T3 sales convinced DJI that it might be worth the effort!

Fujifilm X-T30 Firmware Update 1.01 Released

Fujifilm just released firmware update ver. 1.01 for Fujifilm X-T30 and announced another one for June.

The firmware update Ver.1.01 from Ver.1.00 incorporates the following issue:

  1. Improved operability of the Q (quick menu) button
To avoid accidentally opening the Q (quick) menu, the button reaction time has been increased.*

*FUJIFILM Corporation plans an additional firmware update in June. This will allow customers to use the Q button as a Fn button. This planned update also allows the user to disable the Q button and adds it as a choice in the Function (Fn) Settings enabling the option to assign it to a different Fn button

Remember that you can update your camera also using the camera remote app (how to guide here). If you want to update via SD-card, here is the download link. In this case, we recommend you read Tips for Updating your Firmware
