UPDATE :: Bringing the Fujifilm X-T20 instead of Canon 5D4… and Solving the Green AF Box Misfocusing Mystery :)

Share

UPDATE: Omar had preview pic effect 0.5 enabled, which caused the issue. Omar made a follow up video here.

Omar left his Canon 5D Mark IV and brought the Fuji X-T20 instead to a family party. So how did the small Fuji perform compared to the big Canon? See the video at Omar Gonzalez Photography Youtube. He also noticed that if you press the AF-button too quickly on different subjects, you might get the green AF box confirmation, but the image is not in focus. What happened and why it happened, at minute 6:30.

Capture One Will Support Fujifilm GFX (New Source) :: Phase One Says Not Enough Requests for Fujifilm Film Simulation Support

THE RUMOR

Hey guys,

I had quite a long chat with a new source. I’ll bring to the point:

Phase One will add support for Fujifilm GFX 50s in Capture One Pro.

There is a bit of confusion on th C1 GFX support topic, because:

  • December 30, 2016: Phase One Support says Capture One won’t support the Fujifilm GFX: “It’s a direct competitor of our core business.” (stroy here)
  • January 5, 2017: PhaseOne managment corrects: “Fujifilm GFX support? We have not yet decided. It depends on the GFX Market impact” (stroy here)
  • February 17, 2017: During a Zack Arias live talk, a Fuji Rep says to Zack Arias, that there will be Capture One support for Fujifilm GFX (story here)

So, there is hope.

And maybe the recent Capture One 10.1 update, which finally introduced some significant X-Trans support improvments, could be a sign that Phase One is finally working with more dedication to support Fujifilm cameras.

  • Capture One Pro 10.1 Released: Improved Fujifilm X-Trans support, X-T20, XQ2 and X-A10 support & more (more here)

Oh… and how could I forget that…. grain of salt, of course, fellow Fuji Shooters ;)

FujiRumors Talk with Phase One Manager

I had the opportunity to quickly chat with a Phase One manager.

I asked about GFX support, and of course he couldn’t give me any answer, since he said that “especially regarding the GFX we don’t pre release any forthcoming support“. To me, this sounds already better than… let’s say… “we currently have no plans for GFX support“. :)

I also asked about Fujifilm film simulation support, and the Manager said that it depends on market demand. “We don’t get so many requests for it – at least officially.  Best thing to do is for Fuji users to log it at phaseone.com/support.”

So what are your waiting for? Drop them an email :)

cheers

Senate Portraits

For the portrait session part of the day I was set up in the hallway outside the chambers so we could have easy access to the senators as they roamed the halls to and from meetings. I used a clamshell set up with a light on a boom, a reflector under for fill and a background light to brighten the background. The lights I used were Flashpoint 360ws Streaklights with Bowens adapters. The background light used a gridded hair light from LA softbox to avoid light spill. I used the Fujifilm X-T2 with the XF 50-140mm at f/8. This camera and lens combo is the sharpest I’ve ever shot with, its truly an amazing combo although I am falling in love with the XF 16mm f/1.4 macro.

Senate Chamber Group Panorama

This is my 3rd panorama and 2nd portrait session with the Indiana senate. The senate is all about business so making sure I was doing things quickly and efficiently is very important. I was able to get into the senate chamber 20 minutes before the scheduled group photo so I was able to get a plan worked out. There were several obstacles to overcome to biggest being where to take the photo. The further back I go the more of the front desk is in view (which means more photoshopping) but I get a better picture with less distortion. I tethered my Fujifilm X-T2 camera to my laptop so I could get a better idea of what the final composite would look like and decided the further back I go the better.
