Best and Worst of 2017

This is one of the photography youtube highlights of the year: TheCameraStoreTV Best and Worst. You can check it out here on youtube.

It’s as usual a very enterning and informative video, so make sure to watch it all. This year they ask also other popular youtuber, what was their favorite/worst gear of the year, and include them into their video.

For those of you, who are on the run now and have no time to watch the video, here are the winners.

Best camera of 2017:

  1. Nikon D850 – and they also add it’s probably the last time a DSLR will win the best camera award. Seems like mirrorless is the future.
  2. Sony A7RIII – Tony Northrup declared this his Nr.1 camera
  3. Fujifilm X-T20 – cute, fun, functional and sells great

Best lenses of 2017:

  1. Panasonic Leica 8-18mm F2.8-4
  2. Fujinon MK 18-55
  3. Sony FE 85mmF1.8

Best Video Camera of 2017

  1. Panasonic GH5

Best Trends of 2017 such as quality equipment from China (Laowa lenses, Drones etc), jack of all trades cameras and more. Ted Forbes considers the MF trend set by Fujifilm also a hot trend.

The Worst Camera is the Leica CL, and Jordan says “why not grab a Fujifilm X-E3 for a 1/3 the price?”

Now take your time, and enjoy it all at TheCameraStoreTV here.

Profoto Fujifilm Support

Back on November 18, we told you that Profoto will start shipping their Air Remote TTL-F for Fujifilm on December 18. Well, Profoto actually started shipping it even earlier, as we reported here.

You can pre-order the Air Remote TTL-F at BHphoto, AmazonUS and Adorama.

Currently the Profoto Air Remote TTL-F supports Fujifilm GFX 50S, X-T2, X-Pro2 and X100F, but on their official page here, they say:

Other relevant cameras will be made compatible in the future through camera firmware upgrades by Fujifilm.”

I hope this means support also for older Fujifilm X-Trans cameras like the Fujifilm X-T1.

Thanks for the link Andrew ;)

Fujifilm GFX 50S and Instax Square SQ10 Elected “Japanese Historical Cameras” by the Japanese Camera Museum

Share

Fujifilm Historical Cameras

In 1969, the Japanese Camera Museum started to select some cameras as “Japanese Historical Cameras” and to preserve them for the future in their museum.

Cameras which are considered significant in some regard are selected by the Historical Camera Committee, which is composed of unbiased experts and specialists in the field.”

This year (2017) the Japanese Camera Museum selected the Fujifilm GFX 50S and Instax Square SQ10 as their “historical camera“. These two cameras will now be displayed permanently at their museum.

Full list of elected cameras in 2017 here:

In 2014, the X-T1 and X100T were elected “historical cameras“. In 2016 the X-T2 was declared historical. List of winners in previous years here.

While I’m obviously happy for this recognition and I consider especially the Fujifilm GFX 50S definitely worth to be considered “historical” (it is a potential game changer for the industry), I honestly think that we should wait years (decades?) before anyone can declare any camera really “historical“.
