Fujikina 2019 Tokyo, May 25/26: Fujifilm GFX 100 Launch Party and More?

Fujikina 2019

Fujifilm announced the Fujikina 2019 event in Tokyo on May 25/26.

In the Fujifilm world, “Fujikina” means “big launch event“, and in this case it will be the official launch party for the Fujifilm GFX100, which will be announced on May 23.

What else could come?

Besides the release of the silver Fujinon XF16mmf2.8, I have not heard any more details about the event.

The Fujifilm X-Pro3 is sure for 2019, but no source has so far told me, that it will come in May (but never say never).

If you are waiting for the Fujinon XF 16-80mm f4 and GF50mm f/3.5, Fujifilm said they will be released in fall.

Whatever comes, you only have to do one thing: follow FujiRumors to know everything as fast as possible ;).

GFX · X fan meeting “FUJIKINA” is again.

This time, Tokyo’s event space “CROSS DOCK HARUMI” in Harumi will be held, and an event “FUJIKINA 2019 Tokyo” will be held to thoroughly enjoy the GFX X series.
In this event, you can experience the latest models of GFX and X series, talk shows and studio demonstrations by top photographers and creators from inside and outside Japan, gallery exhibition, free quick maintenance service (by reservation only) and GFX and X series. We offer various contents such as free rental service (by reservation only).

In addition, “FUJIKINA 2019 Tokyo” is planning to make a public program to create promotional videos and photos of overseas artists using the GFX / X series as a new program. Don’t miss the chance to see and experience the top professional production sites.

At the Fujikina 2019 there will be touch & try, quick maintenance service, loan Program, photowalks, live talk & studio demos and public filming. You can check out the full program at the dedicated fujikina 2019 page.

How to Save and Restore Your Camera Settings

How to Save & Restore Camera Settings

Every now and then I get emails from fellow Fujifilm X Shooters, complaining that their camera settings get completely deteleted. There are several reasons this can happen:

  • after firmware update (it should not happen, but it can)
  • discharging of the small build-in internal battery: happens if you leave your camera too long without battery. In case of new cameras, give it a long first charge, or settings will delete shortly after battery has been removed

So the first thing you can do, is to avoid the errors we mentioned above.

And yet, sometimes it’s not a user error (see firmware update), so you better have a Plan B in case all your settings get lost, and in our case, our Plan B is called Fuji X Acquire.

And since just right after the Fujifilm X-T3 firmware update, some FR-readers couldn’t find the back-up feature, I thought I share a quick guide on how to save & restore your Fujifilm camera settings using Fujifilm X Acquire.

STC Optics Clip-in Filters for Fujifilm X and GFX Series

Fujifilm Clip-in Filters

STC Optics, an Asian brand that manufactures various kinds of filters, said that clip-in filters for Fujifilm X series cameras are “coming soon“. In the video above they also show a clip filter for GFX, but so far no indications about it on their website.

As far as I know, STC Optics would be the first brand to release such filters for Fujifilm cameras. Other well known brands include Astro Hutech and Astronomik.

The fact that you attach the filter in front of the sensor instead of on in front of the lens, gives several advantages:

  • no need to buy big filter holders for lenses with protruding lens elements, such as fisheye-lenses for Fujifilm X or lenses like the Fujinon XF 8-16mmf/2.8
  • one filter works for all lenses, no matter what the lens filter size is
  • saves you money, since you do not have to buy lots of different filters
  • they are a good replacement for HSS (see video below)

STC Optics offers ND 16, 64, 400 and 1000.

Clip-in filters are very popular in the astrophotography community, especially light pollution and narrow-band filters, because they can work with both camera lenses and telescopes.

This is a good news for Fujifilm users, because Fujifilm cameras are very good for astro work, due to their superior sensitivity to some wavelengths (like hydrogen alpha, that most of the nebulae are made of) and good ISO performances.
