Fujifilm GFX 50R

The Fujifilm GFX 50R will be announced September 25th at 07:30 AM York time. That’s when Fujifilm has its press conference ahead of photokina.

Let’s start with the price.

I have it 100% confirmed by multiple trusted sources, that the Fujifilm GFX 50R will cost around $4,500. Forget the grain of salt… that’s a fact! ;)

The final price has not yet been set, but there won’t be huge variations from that “around $4,500” (the GFX 50S currently sells for $5,849 with a $650 discount).

And now the rest.

RUMORED BY FUJIRUMROS SOURCES

We already knew about the Fujifilm GFX 50R that:

And here is the new stuff. All trusted. No grain of salt needed.

  • 2 way tilt screen (and not 3 way, like GFX 50S or Fujifilm X-T3)
  • dual SD-card slot
  • button layout/look similar to X-E3 (joystick etc), with a few differences, such as the MCS switch on the back of the camera instead than on the front like X-E3.
  • no more “cooling box” (meaning the “brick” at the back of the LCD that the Fujifilm GFX 50S has)

Finally we will have the first rangefinder-styled Fujifilm with tilt screen :)

RUMORED BY CAMERABETA WEIBO (link here)

  • same button layout as the X-E3, but with a larger size
  • There is no ISO dial, only the shutter and exposure compensation dial
  • This GFX-50R has no OLED shoulder screen
  • equipped with a tilt screen, with a lever
  • coming with a new 40mm pancake lens.
  • the thickness will be less than 42mm
  • the weight is below 800g
  • the price is expected to be 3600 …
  • [TO THE SOURCE WHO CONTATCTS ME ANONYMOUSY: can we talk via email? Would be great. fujirumor@gmail.com]

Fujifilm X-T3: Tracking Full Speed Horses, See Through the Blackout-Free EVF and $1,499 is “Too Low for What this Camera can Do”

Fujifilm X-T3

Our live blogging is over. Make sure to check it out and see all the X-T3 first looks.

We have also written a follow up article, about the 17 things you might have missed about the X-T3.

And it’s not over yet, since I am meticulously searching for every tidbit about the Fujifilm X-T3 that could be of interest for you.

No Selfie Screen, Why?

I wanted to dedicate a special article to the Fujifilm Manager statement about the X-T3 lack of selfie screen earlier today here. Make sure to check it out. Done that, here is the roundup.

(Eye) AF and Tracking + See Blackout Free EVF

Here is the next bunch of content, and we start with the X-T3 first look of Thai youtube channel กล้องกล้วยกล้วย. Unless you speak Thai, you won’t get much out of it.

However, I recommend you to see how the Fujifilm X-T3 tracks a full speed running horse using the blackout free EVF at min. 6:19 of the video with the XF200mmF2.

In short: the Fujifilm X-T3 nails it!

Right after the horses, the X-T3 tracks a water skater, an even more challanging situation, given all the water splashing around him. I count 20 frames (probably shot at 20fps with electronic shutter). I see 1 shot out of focus, and right after that, the X-T3 is again in focus. I don’t notice rolling shutter.

As for the eye detection, you can see it in action at minute 9:39. It’s definitely hugely improved over anything we have seen before on Fujifilm cameras. Let’s see how it stackes up with final firmware against the Sony Eye-AF.

Fujifilm Manager Explains Why the Fujifilm X-T3 has No Selfie Screen (+ Review). Do you Agree? (POLL)

Fujifilm X-T3

The beast is unleashed, and the Fujifilm X-T3 is out in the wild for testing.

One of the testers is Photogearnews and he gets the answer, why the Fujifilm X-T3 has no selfie screen.

A Fujifilm manager told him that, in order to implement the Fujifilm X-T100 selfie screen on the Fujifilm X-T3, they should have made either the camera thicker, or remove some ports (like the headphone jack for example).

They didn’t want to make the camera bulkier and not even remove ports, so they kept the 3-way tilt screen. And if people really want to see themselves while recording, they can add a second screen, which are becoming smaller and more affordable (check out minute 7:45)

I wonder what you guys think… do you agree with this choice? I will let you vote in a poll down below.

And here are other tidbits from his 18 minute review, that you can see here.

  • eye/face detection test at minute 2:34 here
  • single AF is very quick and very responsive (he didn’t test continous AF)
  • face detection test while vlogging at minute 8:47 here
  • see smooth exposure transition during video recording at minute 9:34
  • he doesn’t notice any difference between X-T2 (made in Japan) and X-T3 (made in China) in terms of build quality
