Dear Patrick,
I bought my X-E1 about five months ago and have been loving it. I learned photography when I was in high school using old Pentax film cameras and I still remember the clicking aperture ring on those babies. I really like how the X-E1 feels like a manual camera but with modern conveniences.
Great job with the site; I check it regularly to get tips and ideas and find out what’s new. I was inspired to email you because of a recent post you did about someone traveling for a year with their X-Pro1 [see here]. My partner and I are also traveling, but not for quite so long, our adventure is 4 months and coming to an end soon. We’ve been to the Middle-East, Africa, and Asia. Will there still be a Samyang 12mm f/2.0 lens for Fuji X-mount as rumored by Photorumors here? Well, fact is that in the meantime Samyang added a new lens for Fuji-X at their website here: the Samyang 10mm f/2.8! Now let’s hope that also the rumored 12mm f/2.0 will become true.

It pairs especially well with the tiny X-M1, creating a very portable package capable of very good image quality. The 27mm f/2.8 is sharp at most any aperture, and while the edges are a little softer than the center, they are plenty sharp enough for most any use. This little pancake controls chromatic aberrations and fringing extremely well, and I feel that overall image quality is quite good, though bokeh is rather unremarkable. Ultimately, if you want a very small lens with very good image quality in a nice all-purpose focal length, the XF 27mm f/2.8 will fit the bill quite nicely. I was left wanting for a few things, however. For the $450 asking price, I would have much rather seen a faster aperture, as an f/2.8 prime lens isn’t exactly a speed demon. I would have much preferred this to be an f/2.0 or even f/2.4 lens given the price.”
