1) photographyblog posted the X-M1 review review here. 4.5 out of 5 starts… and guess where the X-M1 lost half a star? Exactly, the viewfinder. Some extracts:

“Despite its significantly lower price on launch, the Fujifilm X-M1 is another well-built X-series camera, with very little no flex or movement in its chassis, despite having more plastic in its construction. […] The Fujifilm X-M1’s auto-focusing speed is quick, with a quoted fastest auto-focus time of 0.1 seconds, although it was slightly slower when using the 16-50mm kit zoom. […] The Fujifilm X-M1 produces images of outstanding quality. […] The new 16-50mm lens is also worthy of mention, as although it has a cheaper build quality, it still offers sharp results throughout the focal range. The X-M1 is certainly right up there with the best APS-C sensor cameras on the market, and some full-frame models too, so if image quality at an affordable price is paramount, the [shoplink 13828]X-M1[/shoplink] certainly fits the bill.” (review here)

[UPDATE] photographyblog just posted the 16-50 review here. Fast and quiet focus, “Vignetting is practically a non-issue, and chromatic aberrations are present but well-controlled […] pleasingly sharp in the image centre at 16mm and 23mm, with performance dropping off at 35mm and 50mm where optimum sharpness isn’t achieved until f/8.

2) The Spanish site dslrmagazine.com had his hands on the X-M1. Their impression can be read here (translation)

3) dc.watch introduces the X-M1 and posted some samples (whole ISO range, film simulations and filters…) Read it here (translation)

X-A1 and NEW CHEAPER LENSES on the way! + still to wait for the X-PRO2

Share

I’m here again dear readers! I thought you could be interested in the latest rumors bubbling in the FR-kitchen.

A new source shared with me (and with you) the following informations:

1) THE STRATEGY: Fuji won’t replace frenetically its cameras after a short time. The company’s goal now is to extend its offer to new market segments. Therefore there will be new cameras targeting different customers. (a trusted source told me here that, after the X-A1, Fuji plans to release two more cameras this year)

2) THE X-PRO2: Because of this strategy the high end cameras won’t be replaced that soon. (so it seems that the X-PRO2 won’t be one of the two cameras released after the X-A1 this year.)

3) THE NEW LENSES: There will be new cheaper lenses after the 16-50 f/3.5. These lenses will be cheaper because they are slower, but the image quality will remain top-notch because inside all elements are made of quality glass.

4) THE CHEAP 55-200: We will soon have a cheaper 55-200 lens (or something very similar).

5) THE DOUBLE KIT: Fuji could offer the X-A1 with a double zoom kit lens (16-50 and cheap 55-200)

As always, take rumors from new sources with a grain of salt. I’ve already fired off some emails to trusted sources and as soon as I can confirm this rumor I’ll post an update.

And don’t be shy, if anyone else out there has some inside news to share, use the rumor box on the FR-website to share them anonymously (you can give yourself a fake name and create an identity so that I recognize you in future) or contact me via email at fujirumor@gmail.com.

Follow FR on facebook, twitter and subscribe the RSS feed to stay connected with the Fuji-world.

may the focus be with you!
Patrick

P.S: Oh, and if someone out there reports these rumors on other websites don’t be afraid to quote the source, I have nothing against it ;).

P.P.S.: The Polish site optyczne posted some samples taken with the X-M1 and 16-50, the [shoplink 13646]Zeiss Touit 32mm[/shoplink] and the [shoplink 12892]XF 55-200[/shoplink]. Click here to see them all.

More details about the new X-PRO1 and X-E1 firmware on July 23.

 photo firmware_zps3078720f.png

On June 25 Fujifilm announced a new firmware for the X-E1 (Ver 2.00) and X-PRO1 (Ver 3.00). Now the company added some more details about it:

In addition to the version-up content was announced on the 25th of June “FUJIFILM X-Pro1/X-E1” firmware, we have also added improved focusing accuracy when shooting the subject of low contrast.

1. Improved AF speed on most existing XF lenses.
Thanks to an updated algorithm, faster AF speed is achieved with the following XF lenses:
XF14mmF2.8 R
XF18mmF2 R
XF35mmF1.4 R
XF60mmF2.4 R Macro
XF18-55mmF2.8–4 R LM OIS

NB: To benefit fully from the improvements above you will need to upgrade your XF lens firmware as well as your camera firmware

2. Addition of a “Focus Peak Highlight” function for manual focusing.
A “Focus Peak Highlight” function, as featured on the FUJIFILM X100S and X20 cameras, has been added to the X-Pro1 and X-E1 via this firmware update. It assists accurate and sensitive manual focusing by enhancing the outline of your subject in high contrast.

3. Improvement of the method to change magnification during manual focus.
Just press the dial to activate image magnification during manual focus and then rotate the dial right or left and the camera will alternate between 3x and 10x, whichever direction you turn.

4. Improvement of focus precision in various scenes
The focus detection algorithm has been improved to provide more accurate focus precision for low contrast subjects and scenes containing horizontal stripes.

5. XF18-55mmF2.8-4 R LM OIS lens:
Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) is improved when recording videos. The OIS has been improved to reduce image blurring when walking and recording video footage.

[definitely, the “soul” is in the photographer]

Max Angeloni of riflessifotografici just posted his first article about the X-M1 here (English version). Who’s the target group of this camera?
