Fuji X-T3 vs Sony A7III Comparison NR.1

Let’s start with Venture Arthouse (video above), and the reasons why he got rid of his Sony A7III and Sony A6500 for the Fujifilm X-T3. Here are some keypoints:

  • Fujifilm history
  • Kaizen does not fix only bugs, but adds features
  • fantastic video and still specs for $1,500. Nothing in the marketplace is touching this
  • Sony has not good color science
  • Fujifilm stunning images out of the camera
  • with these video specs, filmmaking experience is now much better. A lot of flexibility
  • A lot of care and thought went into this camera
  • low light is amazing. Sony A7III still a little bit better
  • Using Sony he found a lot of unhappiness. He had terrible experience with customer support. Overheating issues
  • He couldn’t let go the overall colors and feelings with Fujifilm
  • X-T3 is not perfect, some things he liked better on Sony, but the Fujifilm X-T3 just ticked so many boxes, that he had to switch
  • He urges ever Sony shooter to go and rent the Fujifilm X-T3

In a follow up video, “The 1 thing that FUJIFILM has on everyone” (see the video below), he says that “color” is the one thing where Fujifilm really shines.

Fuji X-T3 vs Sony A7III Comparison NR.2

Fred Ranger is going to be a 100% Fujifilm shooter now, since he is selling his Sony A7III.

  • Fred is a hybrid shooter, and he wanted to have the full package
  • When used with external monitor, the Sony does not display any information anymore
  • Fujifilm X-T3 finally works well with eye tracking, also available in video (not available in any other camera)
  • 4K 60P
  • Sony A7III feels plasticy and computery, not so good build quality
  • Fujifilm X-T3 feels even better built than the Fujifilm X-T2. Great feeling in the hands
  • Battery life is not good on X-T3, but you can’t have it all
  • Sony is improving with colors, but the Fujifilm colors and skin tones are just still better

  • better EVF and more pleasant to look at
  • better video features
  • better for color grading in video
  • Fuji X-T3 has less rolling shutter than the Sony A7III
  • better organized menu

Sony A7III Pros

  • dynamic range, although the dynamic range on X-T3 is surprisingly good, and the reviewer things nobody will be disappointed with it
  • Sony A7III is generally 1 stop cleaner, but X-Trans sensor is very good as well

  • better AF in stills and video, although also X-T3 is great

  1. Fujifilm X-T3 – 84% score
  2. Sony A7III – 68% score

  1. Sony A7III – 92% score
  2. Fujifilm X-T3 – 47% score (almost all misses in the beginning part of the run, while camera has still to find and lock on face that is pretty far away. Once subject is closer, works very good. Fujifilm has to make face/eye detection work also on subject that are more far away. Firmware improvement should be possible)

He also compared dynamic range betweeb the Fujifilm X-T3, Sony AzIII, Nikon Z7 and Canon EOS R. Check out the video below.

Fuji X-T3 vs Sony A7III Comparison NR.6

Andrew compares the Fuji X-T3 vs Sony a7iii and adds a plea to Fuji & what the X-T3 still lacks:

  • Video AF: Autofocus is stellar and on par to Sony A7III
  • Auto ISO: Auto ISO exposure transition is stepping [ADMIN NOTE: Andrew is wrong. What he sees is Aperture stepping, since Auto ISO is smooth, even on X-H1]
  • he needs to be able to quickly switch between Video and Stills settings
  • you can separate video/stills exposure if you use silent movie controls, but switching is not as fast as on the Sony A7III, so he can’t switch to Fujifilm X-T3 for his hybrid shooting
  • he wants to sell his Sony A7III and go Fujifilm X-T3, but Fujifilm needs to make switching between stored video/stills exposure settings even faster
  • Sounds like Fujifilm is just one firmware away for making it the perfect hybrid camera for Denaw & Andrew, and he can  finally leave Sony and go all in with Fujifilm

Fuji X-T3 vs Sony A7III Comparison NR.7

Lex and Josh compares the Fuji X-T3 vs. Sony A7III

  • for tracking moving subjects, you have many more options with Fujifilm X-T3, since it shoots up to 30 fps, whereas the Sony A7III only up to 10 fps
  • AF tracking using mechanical shutter: almost identical hit rate when it comes to shots that are in focus
  • video tracking on Fujifilm X-T3 is the clear winner over the Sony A7III

  • face AF tracking on Sony tracks faces that are more far away
  • low light video the Sony A7III is sharper, Fujifilm X-T3 has less noise. Overall Sony wins
