GAME OVER for the XF120mmF2.8 :: Fuji goes for a shorter focal length (below 100mm)!

 XF 60-85

Do you remember when I told you that the XF120mmF2.8 has been delayed to the end of the year?

Well, that was just the beginning of the end for that lens. The lens never convinced Fujifilm. Too big and too heavy. The money, my dear X-shooter friends, is in the smaller lenses, like the XF35mmF2 and the upcoming XF23mmF2!

That’s why, according to a trusted source, the XF120mmF2.8 has been canceled. The source told me that Fuji will go for a “focal length below 100mm”. And now we can confirm that it will something between 60mm and 85mm (but more likely around 75-85mm). The lens should still be 1:1 Macro.

But even if it comes from trusted source, take it with a grain of salt…. Fujifilm can change plans anytime or even scratch lenses from the roadmap (or change specs, like with the XF56mmF1.2, which originally was an F1.4 lens on the roadmap)

Some of you’ll now protest and say: “Patrick, this is just a made up clickbait rumor, that lens is in the official Fujifilm roadmap”! You’re free to do that. But when Fuji updates its roadmap, I’ll gladly look back at those comments ;)

Fujifilm has a clear focus: make smaller and more compact primes! And looking at this Poll, also FR-readers see this as an absolute priority.

cheers

Fujifilm X-T2 (probably) with a Pentax K1 alike Flexible-Tilt Screen (VIDEO) :: Good for Portraits but Not for Selfies! – POLL

K1a

Recently, here on FujiRumors, you could see the first images of the Fujifilm X-T2. One of the features visible in the leaked images and that created a bit of confusion was the new articulating screen.

After seeing this image, some FR-readers had huge doubts. “Why would a screen come out in that direction?” and “am I the only one that absolutely hates the sideways articulating screen?” (images in this post)

However, as other FR-readers pointed out in the comments, it seems that the Fujifilm X-T2 does not have an articulating screen, but more likely features the same or similar tilt mechanism of the Pentax K1, called “Flexible-Tilt Screen” or “cross-tilt screen“. As described at BHphoto:

The Pentax K-1 has a unique 3.2″ cross-tilt LCD monitor, which can tilt upward 90°, down 44°, and left and right 35° for numerous positions.

The Pentax K-1 solution sounds great to me… perfect for landscape, portrait and macro work!

However, also the “flexible-tilt screen” has it’s limits compared to articulating screens. The Pentax K1 screen can not be used to take Selfies and you can’t protect the LCD-screen simply by rotating it 180°, as you can see in one of the Pentax K-S2 images here. Moreover, Videographers might prefer a swivel screen, too.

At the bottom of this post, I’ll share 2 videos: the first one shows how the flexible-tilt screen works, while the second one should reassure those, who think this mechanism could easily break (go to minute 0:12).

But first a little Poll:

Fujifilm X-T2 REAL LIFE IMAGES LEAKED ! – Joystick + New Articulating Screen + more!

X-T2 Final 2

These are very likely the first Real Life images of the Fujifilm X-T2 (which is rumored to come soon) with the Meike MK320-F TTL/M/S1/S2 Speedlite.

Difficult to say if it is bigger or not than the X-T1 (looks like a tiny bit bigger to me). For sure we can see a joystick, over the joystick the Q button. The Grip looks slightly different, and the SD-card slot looks bigger (space enough for a two SD-cards I guess). ISO dial goes up to 12800.

The X-T2 will have 4K.

stay tuned, fellow X-shooters

Mirrorlessrumors spotted this news: Zenit just launched an E-mount lens, the Zenitar 50mmF0.95. However, Gavriloart says they will release it for other mirrorless systems too. Mirrorlessrumors says:

I guess MFT and X-mount camera owners can certainly expect to get this lens in their respective native mounts.

No price info for now.

New Meyer Optik Görlitz Lens for Fuji X coming on April 14!

unspecified

meyer

SonyAlphaRumors got this image from a Meyer “internal source”. It’s from photographer Firat Bagdu and it has been shot with the upcoming new Meyer Optik Görlitz mid range prime lens. SAR says:

This will be Meyer’s most technologically advanced lens. It’s also near-macro glass. I have been told the specs are the same of one of their historic lenses.

The official announcement is set for April 14 at 11am London time… and it will be available also for Fuji X Mount.

Meyer Optik Görlitz already offers some X-mount lenses. I’ve checked the Complete Overview over all exisiting (and upcoming) Fuji X-mount lenses and saw the [shoplink 44451 ebay]Nocturnus  35mmF0.95[/shoplink], the Trimagon 95mmF2.6 and the Trioplan 100mmF2.8.

Regarding the Nocturnus lens FXF member yukosteel noted here,

[shoplink 44451 ebay]On this eBay lot[/shoplink] it looks a bit different then picture on FR from February 27, 2015. There is hood mount, and “0.95” on DOF scale. Other then that it still looks like Mitakon. While pictures on Meyer-Optik are still showing slightly different body design, though same size : )

Here some Meyer Optik Görlitz “legends”:
