images I took at photokina 2016… can you find Waldo
The Year of Mirrorless
This years’ photokina will probably the most exciting of the last 20 years.
We will assist to the death of DSLR’s (that’s it my friends, just accept it), and open the new era of mirrorless.
Paraphrasing the famous sentence from the movie Deadline we could say “that’s technology, baby, there is nothing you can do about it, nothing“.
Sure, the transition from DSLR to mirrorless won’t happen overnight. But that’s the trend. And that’s why Canon and Nikon are starting to get serious about mirrorless, too.
On this years photokina we will see the following new mirrorless cameras from Fujifilm:
In 2016, the by far busiest booth was the one of Fujifilm, but, between me and you, the most beautiful one was without a doubt the one of Leica (don’t tell Fuji, but I’ve spend hours (!!!) there).
This year, Fujifilm won’t have such an easy game to play like in 2016. The competition is strong, and that’s good for us customers.
The biggest problem?
Well, on the same Photokina days, there is also worlds largest beer festival, the Oktoberfest in Munich (I’ve never been there). So I stand in front of tough decisions: Oktoberfest or Photokina? Life can be so cruel!!!
Trusted sources just told to FujiRumors, that the Fujifilm GFX 100S development announcement will take place on the same day of the Fujifilm GFX 50R announcement, hence September 25 at 07:30 AM New York time.
“Development announcement” means we won’t get the specs (but we already know it will feature the BSI 100MP Sony sensor), however, you will see mockups and maybe even working prototypes of the Fujifilm GFX 100S.
As we already told you back in December 2017, the Fujifilm GFX 100S is rumored to be definitely more expensive than the Fujifilm GFX 50S.
So, this rumor ends here, but it’s not over yet :)
I have no rumors about it, but I guess that along with the Fujifilm GFX 100S and Fujifilm GFX 50R, we might also see some new GF lens announcements and maybe even a new GF lens roadmap.
In fact, according to the internal Fujinon GF lens roadmap we leaked back in April 2017, Fujifilm has still the following lenses in the pipeline:
Fujinon GF 100-200mm F4.5-5.6
Fujinon GF 35mm F2.8
Fujinon GF 20-36mm F3.5-4.5
The leaked roadmap says, that Fujifilm had to decide between the GF 100-200 or the GF 20-36mm for 2018, and at this point I believe GF 100-200 is more likely, with the GF 20-36 to be postponed to 2019. But that’s still my guess, more than a solid rumor.
And speaking of GF lenses, we also shared the following rumors:
77% of you voted that you don’t want a Full Frame interchangeable line by Fujifilm.
43% don’t want FF at all
19% don’t want FF in MILC, but they would like an FF Fujifilm X200
15% don’t want FF, but a APS-H sensor that is still compatible with existing mount and lenses
So basically for 62% of you there is no need to have FF on Fuji’s MILC lineup, and my impression is that those, who vote for APS-H, care most about compatibility with existing lenses, hence, if APS-H is not possible, they’d rather prefer to keep APS-C than go FF and invest all over again in a new system.
Only 12% of FR-readers are Pro full frame, whereas other 6% voted for the option to put a FF sensor in the G mount, making the GFX a hybrid system.
So, if Fujifilm listens, than at least here on FR the advice is clear: continue to improve, where you are already the best in the market, APS-C and Medium Format, and avoid the FF slaughter between Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic and maybe even Olympus.
Yesterday we published the email of a Cameranu (a big and official Fujifilm retailer), who said to their customers, the XF16-80mmF4 will ship in November 2018.
I guess Camernu does not make up some stuff just to fool their customers and take early pre-orders. So I see two options:
UPDATE: Our sources told us that Cameranu is wrong and that the lenses will come in 2019 as written on the roadmap – full report here
A few days ago Cameranu (an important Dutch store and also an authorized Fujifilm dealer) listed the XF16-80mmF4 WR, the XF33mmF1.0 and XF16mmF2.8 at their store.
Officially, Fujifilm’s latest roadmap says the XF16-80mm F4 and XF16mm F2.8 will come in 2019, whereas the XF33/1 in 2020.
But there could be a pleasing surprise :)
After reading the article on FujiRumors, one of our readers contacted Cameranu and asked them more details about the lenses.
Well, the store answered, and the reader send me the screenshot of the stores’ email. It’s in Dutch, and here is what it says in short:
“The expected shipping date for the XF16-80mmF4 is November“
It is not super clear, but it seems that also the XF16mmF2.8 could ship this year.
Cameranu expects to get more details about these lens pretty soon.
If this information is accurate, then I guess we can expect the lenses (except for the XF33/1) to be annonced along with the Fujifilm X-T3 very soon.
I guess Camernu does not make up just some stuff to fool their customers. If they say this, then I am sure it is because their Fujifilm rep told them so.

A powerful new sensor, a fast processor, 20fps bursts, packed with many new features, the best Fujifilm X series camera ever made… and yet, the Fujifilm X-T3 won’t be that pricy as one could imagine.
In fact, I have been told by a trusted source (thanks), that the Fujifilm X-T3 will cost less than the Fujifilm X-T2 at it’s current official price tag (without rebates), hence less than $1,599.
$1,499? $1,399? Or even less, maybe $1,299 like the X-T1 launch price? Now that thing starts to be affordable also for my savings account :).
But one thing is sure: competition is a good thing for us customers, since I doubt Fujifilm would have sold the Fujifilm X-T3 for a lower price than X-T2, if the Full Frame Sony A7III would not have hit the market with a $2,000 price tag.
And if the rumor of the X-T3 stacked sensor is true, then the Fujifilm X-T3 is basically a Sony A9 for about 1/3 of the price.
You better hold on tight guys, because a whirlwind of rumors is waiting for you here on FR. Don’t miss it and join us on Facebook, RSS-feed, Instagram and Twitter.

I am now about to edit my images, but I am so happy that I guess in about 80% of the cases I will get excellent results applying Fujifilm film simulations only (or slightly fine tuned).
My most used lenses were the XF10-24 and XF18-135, since I mostly focussed on landscape photography in this trip.
I used the 35 and 27 mainly to make some portraits of my girlfriend and some street photos, but so far I could not convince her to give me permission to share them on FujiRumors, but I’ll not give up, and if I get permission, I will share them on my Instagram page here.
I have shared the first few images of my trip on my social media already (more will come), so in case you would like to find out which places I have been to, just check out my Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.
