Fujifilm GFX100S and GFX100 Get Blackmagic RAW and New Features Guide for Firmware 1.20/4.10

Earlier today Fujifilm dropped a bunch of firmware updates, some more substantial, some just bug fixes. You can see the full list here.

The biggest changes come for the Fujifilm GFX100S and Fujifilm GFX100, which get Blackmagic RAW support.

This required Fujifilm to update the Owner’s manuals for those two cameras.

But there are firmware updates also for Fujifilm X-T4, X-T3, X-H1, X-T30, X-E4, X-Pro3, X100V, Fujifilm GFX50S and Fujifilm GFX50R. Make sure to check out all the details and download the latest firmware at our dedicated article here.

And even though I am not into video with my Fujifilm GFX100S, I will update my camera anyway, because who knows what Fujifilm fixed with that “fix of minor bugs” phrase. Sometimes they fix major bugs actually.

Don’t ask me why they do it. It’s a great news if Fujifilm fixes a major bug. No need to hide it behind a generic “minor bug fix” phrase.

LockCircle Cinematic X Cage for the Fujifilm GFX100S

I own the Fujifilm GFX100S and it astonishes me every time with its image quality.

But so far I haven’t shot a single video with it, and quite frankly, I think I never will.

However, that sensor, 70% fuller than full frame, is also astonishing video performer. Philip Bloom for example shot an entire documentary with the original Fujifilm GFX100. Gosh, some of you even mount a GFX camera on a drone for some epic areal footage!

And since the GFX system is flexible enough also for video work, there GFX cages out there, for example from Smallrig.

Now we have a new addition, coming from LockCircle, and it’s made for the Fujifilm GFX100S. You can see some images above and you find the press release, details and links below.

This cage is designed for high end professional medium format cinematography. So if this is your thing, definitely check it out. And since the GFX50SII uses the identical body, I guess it would work on that one too. But I the GFX50SII does not shoot 4K video, so I guess it is not as an attractive video option as the GFX100S.

Singer-Turned-Photographer Bryan Adams Shooting Pirelli Calendar 2022 with Fujifilm GFX100S

original image at CNN taken by Alessandro Scotti
original image at CNN taken by Alessandro Scotti

Here is a little weekend curiosity.

Singer-Turned-Photographer Bryan Adams is currently at work to shoot the new Pirelli Calendar 2022.

Now some behind the scenes images appeared at CNN here, and the camera we see has to be the Fujifilm GFX100S: flat viewfinder, top LCD with two buttons on the right, the “viewmode” printed on the side.

Well, at least he got one already. Fujifilm was totally overwhelmed by the demand for this camera (it is already the most owned GFX camera among the FR community), that it is still hard to find in stock (and Fujifilm warned us about this).

As for the lens he is using in the image we can see above, it could be the Fujinon GF32-64mmF4.

Well, that’s surely where the GFX system belongs: very high end professional work.

And yet, considering that medium format is now getting more affordable than some mirrorless full frame cameras and also smaller than some full frame mirrorless cameras, the GFX system is finding its way also in lots of camera bags of enthusiast photographers, who might not make money out of their images, but value image quality above all else.

You can read the full article and see the images at CNN here.

Digital Camera Market Share 2020: Only Canon, Sony and Fujifilm Grow

Every year, Techno System Research, a major marketing research company located in Japan, publishes the worldwide camera market share data.

And while the data is behind a (very expensive) paywall, the main chart is published by Nikkei and we’ve covered it in the past:

Now the data for 2020 has been released by Techno System Research.

So what changed between 2019 and 2020? Let’s compare:

  • Canon 47.9% (+2.5%)
  • Sony 22.1% (+1.9%)
  • Nikon 13.7% (-4.9%)
  • Fujifilm 5.6% (+0.9%)
  • Panasonic 4.4% (-0.3%)

These top 5 camera companies took 93.8% of the global digital camera market.

Keep in mind that this is the overall digital camera market share (DSLR + Mirrorless + Point & Shoot). So no surprise to see Fujifilm behind Nikon. When it comes to mirrorless data only, until 2019 Fujifilm was clearly ahead of Nikon and on the third position after Sony and Canon.

Fujifilm X/GFX Deals Extended with minor Additions and Important Note Regarding the GF Lens Deals

The deal on the Fujifilm GFX50R is gone since a few weeks, and also the one on the X-T3 and X-T30 was supposed to end last week.

One difference: the X-T30 deals are now valid on all colors and kits (yeah, including the charcoal version ;) ).

Attention: the GF lens deals are NOT applicable to back orders. So get the lenses as long as they are in stock, otherwise you’ll risk not to get it shipped in time (August 22). Here is where you can currently find some samples:

Fujifilm Summer Savings: Some are Gone, some Are Ending but the $2,000 Rebate is Still Here!

So, the $2,000 rebate on the Fujifilm GFX50R is gone. Now, if you want something even more affordable than that camera, you’ll have to wait for the Fujifilm GFX50SII coming in September, which will come with an even lower price tag.

Other Fujifilm deals are ending pretty soon on July 25. But most of them run until August 22. Still available, the $2,000 rebate on the XF200mmF2. You’ll find all details below.

To know which are the best selling deals here on FujiRumors, check out this article.

However, if there is something among the gear you’d like to get, maybe don’t do my error. I’ve waited the last deal day in April to order the GF32-64 and given the overall shortage, I had to wait until early July to finally get it. Unless you are much more patient than me, then there is no hurry to order anything.
