It’s coming! XF 10-24mm announcement leaked at Photography Monthly (now removed)!

 photo 10-24_zps425c2762.png

For a very short time the entire press-release of the XF10-24 was online at photographymonthly. The bad news: I was at work so I wasn’t able to read it. All that remains are a few lines at the news-reader silobreaker.com. Anyway, a leaked press-release is a strong indicator of the fact that an official announcement is imminent!

I can’t tell you when exactly it will be announced… all I can say is that I’ll be there, ready to do some live blogging for you!

Follow Fujirumors on  facebook and twitter and you won’t miss the announcement.

thanks to the FR-reader who send me the link to silobreaker.com!

stay tuned,

comparisons
Fuji X-E2: [shopcountry 17992]

– NOISE: Yes, it’s again, Full Frame vs APS-C, or [shoplink 19559]Sony A7[/shoplink] vs [shoplink 17992]X-E2[/shoplink]. It may be unfair, but many reviewes are tempted to compare the performance of the 2 hot cameras of the moment. So, how does both cameras handle RAW-noise at the various ISO settings? Jordans says:

“First, the Fuji ISO ratings are somewhat overstated.  In examining some test images, it appears that at the same shutter speed and aperture setting, the listed ISOs are roughly 1/3 stop apart.  So, to set a fair fight here, I shot the A7 with a 1/3 stop lower ISO than the Fuji and set the shutter speed and aperture of each camera to be identical.

One area where Fuji’s X-Trans sensor does excel is in color noise suppression. […], the Fuji does a little better job at controlling color noise.

there is no real difference in noise performance between the two cameras for most any setting. […] The fact that the Fuji X-E2 can hold its own in the noise department with a brand new, very high-end full frame sensor is frankly remarkable.  Fuji’s done a great job with their X-series cameras and it shows here.” See the comparison here at admiringlight.

– AF-SPEED: Fuji X-E2 vs Sony A7r AF-speed comparison in this youtube video.

– X-E2 vs Mark 5D III ([shoplink 13457]specs&price[/shoplink]) at andrewvanbeek here: “While I’m not including any side by side comparison shots from the 5D Mark III and the Fuji X-E2, suffice to say that I have not found a single instance where the quality of the X-E2 was such that I could really tell the difference between the 2 cameras.”

Nikon D4 ([shoplink 19911]specs&price[/shoplink]) vs Fuji X E2 in Studio at stanleyleary.com here: “I shot at the lowest recommended ISO for each manufacturer […] I suggest downloading the high resolution and do all the pixel peeping you like.” For his second post “Fuji X E2 vs Nikon D4 with x-rite Mini ColorChecker” click here. In a third post “Loving the Fuji X E2 for Portraits” he takes some portrait shots with the 18-55. Read more here.

– Mike Croshaw: “Heya,  I’ve been shooting a lot in the studio with the X-E2 and wrote up a short article about how it compared to the X-E1.  Feel free to share if you think it might be of interest.” Check it out here.

reviews

– Spectacular dynamic range (“the most amazing aspect of the Fuji X-E2“), quick and responsive, very good color accuracy, the automatic white-balance handles natural and artificial lighting “surprisingly well“… all this (and more) makes the X-E2 an excellent camera. But at ISO 800+ images (JPEG) are soft from the overly aggressive noise-reduction (so shoot RAW or change your NR settings). But read more at neocamera here.

techradar‘s X-E2 review here: “The introduction of Lens Modulation Optimiser technology also brings an improvement in image quality across the frame. […] The majority of photographers who use the X-E2 are likely to shoot raw files, so they are unlikely to be concerned about the painterly effects that appear in out of focus areas in some JPEGs.”

– “This is the Fuji you’ve been waiting for!” says fstoppers.com here: “As soon as I learnt how to shoot with it, it became fun. A LOT of fun! […] If you’re looking for a light, discreet camera with some great glass to carry around for travel, street or just everyday shooting, the X-E2 will tick all of those boxes perfectly and the image quality won’t let you down. The images you get from this thing are great, and while it’s not “cheap”, for the price of the body and some nice fast lenses, it feels like great value.”

Fuji manager Mr.Kawahara: “We have no plan to provide full frame body just now.”

Share

The website 2how conducted an interview with Fuji manager Mr.Kawahara, that can been seen at youtube here. Here are some topics:

1) He is reluctant to create full frame X series because XF lens would NOT be compatible with full frame camera. “If we launch the full frame body we have to launch the full frame lens too. So it is not good for X-series user.” So there are no plans just now to provide a full frame body.

2) No plan “just now” of a X-PRO1 successor, so “we should improve the response of X-PRO1 by firmware upgrade”.

3) Because of the high customers demand, Fujifilm considers to use sensors with more than 16MP in future.

4) Keep the size of XC lens with larger aperture value is almost impossible, because the optic technology is limited and cannot be solved easily, unlike technological limit.

5) Fujfilm will continue to support and improve its cameras via firmware update: “We want you to use our camera longer and longer in your life.”

Thanks for telling me about the video, Vivat

Lawrence Ripsher

Hey Patrick… It’s that time again! I’m back ! – this time with an X-E2 :)

A few first thoughts plus ten of my best at http://lawrenceripsher.com/post/69317862555/its-now-coming-up-to-1-month-since-my-fuji-x-e2

As always, feel free to share / embed images / etc. Keep up the awesome site !

“the camera [X-E2] feels faster [than the X-E1]. From turning on, to being ready for the next shot, to responding to controls. The X-E2 feels more, for lack of a better word, analog.

I shot micro four thirds for (E-P1 -> G3 -> OM-D E-M1) for several years with the best lenses the system had to offer and I always felt that that the micro four thirds system was the best compromise between image quality and size. But I also always felt it was a compromise. […]

However, I now believe the Fuji X system is the new best balance of image quality and size. More importantly perhaps, I feel it’s no longer a compromise. The images I shoot with this system are every bit as good as I could possibly hope to shoot with any other system, and that includes my old Canon FF gear with L glass. […]

[…] for me, in terms of image quality, portability, lens options, ergonomics / controls and pure fun, there’s a very clear leader now – Fuji. And at the top of the Fuji pile now sits the X-E2.

Ian Burrows

Hi,

I have been shooting the X-Pro1 now for a year. I shoot almost all my work with the Fuji now and love it. The 18-55mm is an ideal landscape lens with the 35mm F1.4 still my preference for people.

I’m going to be using an X-E2 and 14mm shortly so I hope to generate some work with that combination.

Raf

Hello Patrick,

I am a solely Fuji X-E1 user since day one and also a big fan of your site. Just thought that my artistic photos may inspire even more X shooters:
http://500px.com/rafalstudio

All images were taken in-camera, with my over 40-years old legacy M42 lenses collection.

Usually folks try to get sharp images showing a subject and my objective is to paint with bokeh, to focus on painting look and feel rather. Just another approach and only Fuji X-E1 allows me to achieve it. And I say that after over a decade of shooting with 6×6 and a whole Nikon SLR/DSLR system.

Once again, checking your site is part of my daily routine so please feed us all with more Fuji details.
And Rico’s Xperts corner is brilliant

Hope you like it and keep on doing your great job!
Cheers,

PRESS RELEASE

HANDEVISION  —  December 12, 2013

A mutual passion for photography and the art of image capture between two companies’ owner has led two special firms, Shanghai Transvision and German IB/E Optics, to collaborate on an industry-shaking new innovation. By merging Geman high-quality engineering standards with Chinese cost-effective production infrastructure, the new camera lens brand Handevision (“Han” means China in Mandarin and “De” is the word for Germany).

After many months of collaboration between engineering and production teams, final quality control assessments have concluded and the IBELUX 40mm f0.85 high-speed lens, the fastest lens in the world, is nearly ready for release. Available for sale by February, 2014, this lens will be available for Sony NEX, Fuji X, Canon EOS M and Micro 4/3 digital mirrorless camera mounts (MSRP is $2,080 USD).

While risky to start our launch with this ground-breaking high-speed lens, we hope to gain the attention and confidence of photographers around the world with our expanding new lenses. Our mission is to manufacture high-grade lenses of metallic construction with a clean, aesthetic finish. As a new player in the lens market, we believe we can expand our new brand internationally as our engineers, uninhibited by production costs nor by material restrictions, will be free to work creatively in seeking optimal image quality and artistic design.

We are currently working on our next project, the wide-angle IBEGON lens. With Sony releasing the new full-frame mirrorless A7/A7R camera, we have designed a high-speed telephoto APO mirror lens called the IBECAT, named for its sharp image capture, its lightweight construction and fast glass. Additional lenses are in development for full frame mirrorless cameras, including a tilt-shift lens and a compact fixed focal length lens.

We are focusing our efforts at expanding our line of full-frame mirrorless and DSLR detachable lenses in 2014 and are constantly developing ways to satisfy demand of professional photographers for faster, sharper lenses.
