DPR Fujifilm X-E4 Review

Share

DPReview has published its Fujifilm X-E4 review.

Their Pros and Cons:

What we like What we don’t like
  • Excellent image quality, pleasing JPEG color
  • Nice classic styling and compact design
  • Strong video feature set with good-quality Full HD and 4K video
  • The tilting touch screen is highly-responsive
  • Can use USB-C port for headphones with included dongle
  • In-camera charging
  • Good battery life
  • Autofocus tracking performance lags behind the competition
  • No animal detection AF mode
  • We miss having a rear dial and focus mode selector (like on X-E3)
  • More custom buttons would be nice
  • The camera is slippery without accessory grip
  • No in-body stabilization
  • No weather-sealing

From their conclusions:

We suspect the X-E4 is going to make a lot of photographers happy, especially those craving a near-pocket-size X-mount body with Fujifilm’s latest IQ performance

The X-E4 is a stylish camera capable of excellent image quality and packed with useful features. It’s the brand’s smallest X-mount offering and a good choice for street, travel, and generalist photographers. It’s also capable of strong video output, though there’s no in-body stabilization for hand-held shooting. Our only hesitation in recommending the X-E4 is due to its AF tracking performance; you’ll find quite a few of its competitors offer better tracking and face/eye detection.

Good for
Generalists looking for a capable and compact interchangeable lens camera. Street and travel photographers. Those wishing to shoot JPEGs only.
Not so good for
Sports and action shooters needing the best AF performance. Video shooters needing in-body stabilization.
