the “old” XF 35mm: still out of stock after the high demand at the X-deals of February-April

_ _ _

First off: this rumor comes from a source, who was right in the past (SRP). If it is correct also this time, it will enter the elite team of trusted sources… until then, take it with a grain of salt!

The source told me that Fuji will launch a new 35mm f/1.4 lens. I do not know when it will be launched nor which improvements we can expect, but, as you may guess, I’m restlessly working on it even now on my lunch break from my day job (see facebook ;-) ). Once back at home this evening I’ll contact some sources and I hope to be able to give you an update soon.

Any help is highly appreciated and could make my work here a lot easier. You know how to contact me (via rumor box = anonymous (you can use a nickname so that I can recognize you in future) / via email at fujirumor [at] gmail.com)

The Fujinon XF 18-135mm will be f/3.5-5.6 and NOT f/3.5-4.8 as shown by Fuji at the CP+ in February

 photo NEWROADMAP_zps4835d8b1.jpg

2 days ago I told you: “REMINDER: we know it since the CP+ in Japan, but Fujifilm hasn’t still updated the roadmap: the 18-135 is getting faster (from f/3.5-f/5.6 to f/3.5-f/4.8)“.

I said it because Fuji itself has shown it at the Japanese photo event CP+ in February (as you can see in the image at the bottom).

Well, that’s not true anymore… and if Fujifilm wanted to create confusion, then they were successful.

Here are the facts: at the beginning of January Fujifilm published a new roadmap listing the Fujinon XF 18-135 f/3.5-5.6. But afterwards, at the CP+ in Japan (February), they unveiled a mock-up of the same lens with an aperture range that goes from f/3.5 to f/4.8, as you can see from the image at the bottom (courtesy: dpreview). At this point all X-shooters thought that Fuji enhanced it, me included… but the illusion last only until today:

In fact, if you’ve read Rico’s X-E2 firmware 2.00 article (a MUST for every X-E2 owner), you’ll notice that he says that the lens won’t be 4.8 at the long end but 5.6! That’s the final word in this little f-stop drama.

Therefore I updated Fuji’s roadmap again, as you can see at the top… a very nice lens range for such a young system, and, for many, the quality of the glass is one of the main reasons to swtich to Fuji.

Level-up: Fujifilm X-E2 firmware update “coming soon” with EVF refresh rate of the X-T1 (X-E2 $62 off)

 photo Fu_zps10f74792.jpg

DEAL

The X-E2 body is currently $62 off at BHphoto (+ 4%reward), AmazonUS and Adorama (+ 4% reward)

RUMOR

A source, who was right in the past, told me that the firmware update for the Fujifilm X-E2 is “coming soon“. It will bring the refresh rate of the X-T1 EVF also to the X-E2! The source did not specify the date, nor if it will bring other features (like the interval shooting function and the remote camera control App).

This firmware makes it a bit easier for X-E2 owners (like me) to resist to the siren songs of the X-T1, which is creaming off award over award and is rapidly falling into the hands of more and more photographers (some of them are trying via email to convince me to get rid of my X-E2 for the X-T1… but I still resist ;-) ).

And Fuji itself said it, that it’s better to sacrifice sales earnings for customer loyalty. In fact the Kaizen philosophy has a negative impact on the sales of newer models, but “in the long run customer trust is very important. We’re a relatively new brand and we need to build trust.

So stay tuned. I’ll start to frequently check Fuji’s support page in the next days and update you as soon as I see it online. And if you are faster than me, then feel free to drop me an email once you see it online.

Rumor Update: TCL-X100 will be out end of May and cost 299 Canadian Dollars (new source)

 photo tcl_zps7a6426ae.jpg

Fujifilm TCL-X100 listed at BHphoto. Still no official price listed.

Just A Flash: I got word from a new source that the TCL-X100 will cost 299 Canadian Dollars and be out end of May. As I told you here, the rumored price for the TCL in Europe is €250. Seems that it is going to cost a little less than the [shoplink 12893]Fujifilm WCL-X100[/shoplink]

As in Japan, in UK the price seems to be set: £219.98 (See Fuji’s site here)

This rumor comes from a new source, so take it cum grano salis.
