CELEBRITY & CURIOSITY: X-shooter Beyoncé (X100S), Jane Goodall (X20) and Ara Güler (X-T1)

Famous X-Shooters

X-shooter 1: One of the most famous Turkish photographers, Ara Güler (honoured as “Photographer of the Century” in Turkey), seems to have made the switch to the X and grabbed a Fujiflm X-T1 (he mostly used Leica for his work). See the image at the German site Spiegel.de. [UPDATE: Ara Güler died on October 17, 2018, at the age of 90. Check out this New York time article.]

X-shooter 2: It looks like Jane Goodall, the world’s foremost expert on chimpanzees & UN Messenger of Peace is also an X-shooter, as she carries her Fuji X20 when hanging out with animals and people. See it here on her website.

X-shooter 3: It seems that Beyoncé (website) grabbed a Fujifilm X100S… and that she is left eye dominant. Beyonce with her X100S here, here and here.

DxO corrects: “Our apologies for this inconsistency, tests on X-TRANS sensors are still not planned.”

 photo dd_zps96a71cd9.jpg

When DxO first posted the X100S “test and reviews” page (probably December 5 – thx Trenton), they didn’t mention the fact that they will make their own Fujifilm X100S test. It was a simple site with a collection of reviews found all over the web… but something changed this Summer.

After the FR post here, some FR-readers told me that already back in June, someone at DxO deliberately added this sentence to the X100S DxO page: “This product will be tested and reviewed on July on dxomark.com.” However, DxO didn’t post any X100S review in July. Since then, DxO changed the date for the publication of their X100S review to August, then September and finally to October.

And now this: DxO just said over at their site here that:

This indication was not accurate and has now been removed, since tests on X-TRANS sensors are still not planned. Our apologies for this inconsistency, and thank you for your understanding.”

That’s strange, they don’t even have plans to test the X-Trans sensor. So why even add and afterwards change continuously the Fujifilm X100S review publication date?

Fact is, no X-TRANS test, no X-TRANS support, and no X-TRANS DxO scores… however I’d like to assure you that Fuji X-series cameras will neverthelss take awesome shots… just ask some X-shooters or check out the FR-X-Shooter facebook photostream and tell me if you think I’m wrong ;) .

FIRST OFF: Thanks a lot, Etienne (blog) for the samples and your impressions.

Check out his blog about 1 year travel he did with his Fujis here at pack2life!

We are still waiting for Fujifilm to upload their official samples… so in the meantime you can find some on Fujirumors. This time it’s FR-reader Etienne, who shared with us some of his samples taken with the upcoming XF 50-140mm f/2.8 OIS WR and XF 56mm f/1.2 APD

I’ll just share one low resolution image (with crop) taken with the XF 50-140mm f/2.8 OIS WR at 140 f/2.8 (above) and one shot with the XF 56mm f/1.2 APD (at the bottom). For all the full resolution samples, download them at dropbox here. The samples are really very sharp!

He also send us 3 things he has noticed during this event:

  • the 90mm is really huge compared to the 56mm (ok the 140-400mm is even bigger but not too long for this range)
  • the tripod collar of the preproduction 50-140mm can’t be entirely removed of the lens. The collar will stay but you can “only” remove the L shape part that is attached to the tripod (with 2 screws). It is actually different from the Canon 70-200mm f/4 I had in the past (no screws like this). I don’t know if it is going to be the same thing on the final model. I don’t really like it this way.
  • the electronic shutter once activated made the X.T1 a perfect silence camera (I tried that on the graphite X-T1).

Also the threeguyswithcameras was at the event, and they posted their samples and impressions here.
