Waiting for Godot… the X100S “under review (?)” at AmazonUS

 photo X100S_zpsb4a95eb2.png

You probably know Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot” (wikipedia your Amazon), where two homeless men are waiting for Godot, but he never arrives.

Well, we are not looking for Godot, but for the X100S. Announced at the 7th of January (but FR told you about it for first already weeks before), in stock for the first time in late March for a very short time, now it almost disappeared from stores. And so we are here, waiting for our pre-ordered X100S to come, but nothing happens.

And now this: I’ve checked the X100S status at Amazon every day. They said “in stock in 1-3 weeks”, “in stock in 1-3 months”, “in stock in 3-5 weeks” and now AmazonUS says “ITEM UNDER REVIEW” Here is the full text. What went wrong with AmazonUS?:

“Item Under Review: While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it’s described here. (Thanks for the tip!) We’re working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.”

btw, I also believe that Fuji was surprised by the high demand for this camera and has now problems to deliver the camera to the stores. As you know, Fuji announced to cut down the compact camera lineup by 50%. It’s a good news: let’s focus on the X-series and not waste energy into bottom-end models.

Fuji, concentrate your power on the X-series, everything else is just distraction!

We started with Godot and therefore we have to find an absurd final for this story: so, while nobody knows when the X100S will be in stock at AmazonUS, the guys over at dealsrunner.com just found it in stock at AmazonUK (shipped and sold by AmazonUK). And if you find them in stock too, subscribe to dealsrunner and spread the word!

I ordered the x100s on amazon 3 weeks ago, and it says “DELIVERY ESTIMATE: Wednesday June 12, 2013 – Thursday June 13, 2013 by 8:00pm”. Right now it’s Jun12 noon and it still has not shipped. Not sure what to expect right now.

I was on the x100s wait list at a local shop, and last week they inform me that they got a small quantity of x100s in stock for the same price as amazon, but I declined it because I thought I will get from amazon this week. The only reason I want to buy from Amazon is just incase I don’t like the camera I can return it without much trouble. (no local shop has demo unit for me to play it with, so it’s a lot of money for something I have never seen before). Now I am not so sure if I will ever get it from amazon…. maybe I should have just buy the one from my local shop, but I am sure it’s all sold out again now.

Buying from UK will not give you the same warranty coverage as US, it becomes a grey market item. In that case, might as well buy from Japan for $200 less.

I walked into a shop here in Singapore and bought mine weeks ago. Great price too with a case, extra battery, memory card, dry box, cleaning kit and tripod all thrown in. Comes with an international warranty. If anyone is that desperate for one I will pick up,one and ship it to you.

Got email from Amazon this morning:

“We’re writing about the order you placed on May 14, 2013 (Order# xxxxxxx). Unfortunately, we are unable to ship the item(s) as soon as we expected and need to provide you with a new estimate of when the item(s) may be delivered”

      So…. no new camera for father’s day….

While the amazon’s x100s page still shows item under review, my existing order now has updated the delivery estimate to “Friday July 19, 2013 – Wednesday July 31, 2013 by 8:00pm”

I would hazard a guess that there’s a supply problem with the components – with every shop under the sun doing a deal on x-pro and x-e cams, they won’t be concentrating too hard on the production of these products, cutting the compacts by a half and stopping making the x100 and x10…as far as unprecedented demand, I doubt it…yeah, it’s a great camera but people aren’t crawling over each other to upgrade from an old x100 and it’s still a niche product and it’s retailing at 4 digits the world over – even if there were a flood of stock, it still would sell for a large 3 digit euro / pound number…just my thoughts tho…

FWIW, I happened to receive one of the few that Amazon had in stock back in April. I returned it because they had packaged it by throwing it in a box with little to no protection and I wasn’t willing to take the chance that it might have been damaged. Hopefully others were shipped in the same manner and Amazon is actually reviewing their shipping methods for expensive electronics. It would be nice if they took a little better care of their shipments. Maybe they are looking into “because customers have told us something may be wrong with…the way were shipping” – although I doubt it.

My X100S box too had a tear in it, so I called Fuji US to confirm that it was indeed a new camera that nobody registered.

  • Taz

I received my order from Amazon, including a $100 instant promotional code for the “unreasonable long wait.”

  • Aleste

I’m not convinced. So far there are only 40 reviews. If it really sold as well as they say they should have around 130 reviews like the D7100 that came out very close.

This item is now offered again by Amazon USA with 1-2 months delivery noted.

Still shows up as “under review”
