The Rise of Chinese Lenses and Top 7 Chinese Fujifilm X Mount Lenses

The Rise of Chinese Lenses

In the last few weeks, we covered a couple of new Chinese Fujifilm X mount lenses here on FujiRumors, such as the brand new 7Artisans 60mm F2.8 1:1 Macro and the Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 MK II.

In 2019, a lot of buzz has been created also by the first third-party reverse-engineered autofocus X mount lens, the Chinese Viltrox 85mmF1.8, whereas in 2018 the Lawoa 9mm f/2.8 was the very best seller here on FujiRumors (yep, it sold better than ANY Fujinon XF lens amongst FR-readers).

Chinese lenses: the price is (mostly) low, the quality goes up and the sales expload!

In fact, I was looking at AmazonUS top 50 lenses ranking, and, at the time of this post, there are as many as 25 Chinese lenses amongst the top 50.

For Fujifilm X shooters we spot amongst the top 50:

  1. Meike 35mm f/1.7
  2. Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 AF
  3. Neewer 25mm f/1.8
  4. 7Artisans 35mm f/1.2
  5. Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 MKII
  6. Meike MK 25mm F1.8
  7. Meike MK-35mm F/1.4

See the full list of top 50 selling lenses here.

It looks like the lable “made in China” is no longer something photographers are too sceptical of.

Today I’d like to ask you if you own any of these lenses, and if you want, you can share your feedback in the comments down below. Your feedback might be helpful for the rest of the Fujifilm community.

Kamlan says:

The “Kamlan 50mm F1.1 MK2 APS-C lens” has a super large, bright f/1.1 aperture with 11 circular aperture iris that allows for great results in extreme low light conditions and also the ability to create beautifully creamy backgrounds. Brand new optical design can help you get great sharpness in all aperture range.

One of the key strengths of the Kamland 50mm f/1.1 MK2 is its high degree of color accuracy and richness. Unlike some normal large lenses, it does not introduce too much color cast to images but instead delivers a neutral, accurate color rendition even wide open. You can easily create great 3D effect and rich sense of atmosphere for your images.

Kamlan 50mm F1.1 MK2 features with dual high index of refraction  element groups. It can calibrate the spherical aberration effectively. The result is your images will be sharp from minimum distance to infinity.43rumors
Further extending the flexibility of the lens is the ability focus down to just 0.4m (1.3ft), allowing you to fill the frame with your subject and throw the background dramatically out of focus.

Kamlan 50mm F1.1 MK2 features a larger diameter element with  high index of refraction glass to help eliminate the onion rings. The whole defocus area is smooth and creamy.

You can pre-order at Adorama here.

The $150 Sainsonic Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 for Fujifilm X-Mount Coming Soon (+ Review)

Sainsonic Kamlan 50mm f/1.1

Sainsonic Kamlan 50mm f/1.1

Sainsonic send a copy of the Sony E-mount Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 to Christopher. In his review, Christopher reveales, that the Fujifilm X-mount version will come soon.

The Sainsonic Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 is currently available for Fuji X-mount, Sony E-mount and Canon EOS M-mount for about $150 only.

About the image quality at F1.1 of the Sainsonic Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 manual focus lens, Christopher says in his review here that:

  • Good News: at F1.1 sharpness in the center of the image the lens is usuable, but less in the corners
  • a bit low contrast at F1.1 and purple fringing
  • vignetting is good even at F1.1. Distortion is good too
  • Generally out of focus backgrounds look a little busy but not in a terribly bad way. When they are deeply out of focus they look fine and smooth

To become fully usuable, you have to stop down the lens, but at least center sharpness is good at F1.1, which makes it usable for portraits. But corners are very soft at F1.1. Image quality is not impressive… but it costs just $150.
