BREAKING: Fujifilm X-H2 Coming 2022 with 40 (not 43) Megapixel Sensor

Fujifilm X-H2

We have to be clear and careful.

So let’s start with what Fujifilm told us at the recent Fujifilm X Summit here:

And indeed, last year Sony has released a brand new 43 megapixel APS-C stacked BSI sensor.

So it’s a done deal, right? We will get a Fujifilm X-H2 with 43 megapixel APS-C stacked BSI sensor as everybody speculates based on Sony’s sensor offering?

Well, no!

After the X summit, several trusted sources reached out to us and wanted me to inform fellow FR-readers, that the Fujifilm X-H2 will have a 40 megapixel sensor.

No more details given for now.

Now, I don’t know if it is the same 43 megapixel sensor we talked about earlier, but Fujifilm will effectively use only 40 of those for some obscure reason, or if it’s simply just another sensor we don’t know about yet. I will investigate this and let you know.

What is sure, is that once the Fujifilm X-H2 hits the market, it will be sold and marketed as a 40MP camera.

And quite frankly, in a world where every megapixel matters, it would be a bad marketing move to use a 43MP sensor and advertise it as a lower resolution 40MP sensor. So my guess (not rumor, guess), is that it’s a true 40 megapixel sensor.

But…

Attention…

FujiRumors already and exclusively told you that there will be two Fujifilm X-H2 cameras coming.

Will both feature this 40MP sensor, maybe one in X-Trans version and the other with a more affordable Bayer sensor? Or will one have a selfie screen and the other a 3 way tilt screen? A retro and a PSAM version? Or will there be two completely different sensors? Or maybe it’s the same sensor, just one in a video oriented camera maybe even with built-in fan, and a more stills oriented body?

Questions, that shall not remain unanswered for too long. Just follow FujiRumors and your doubts and questions will dissipate soon enough ;).

Until then, check out our initial X-H2 rumored specs list.

Fujifilm Announces Delivery Delay for GFX50S II with GF35-70mm Kit Due to Pre-Orders Exceeding Expectations

Fujifilm just announced that the pre-orders for the Fujifilm GFX50SII and GF35-70mmF4.5-5.6 kit are higher than expected, and that this could lead to delivery delays.

Now, some might say this is a standard marketing phrase, and I don’t know, maybe it is for other brands.

But in the Fujifilm world, when Fujifilm announced delivery delays due to high demand, then you can be sure we will go though a delivery delay that might take months.

I will spare you with Fujifilm’s delivery nightmares, like the the 1+ year it took them to regularly deliver the Fujifilm X100S or, to talk about the more recent times, the shipping struggles of the Fujifilm GFX100S, which got twice the pre-orders Fuji expected and 7/8 months after announcement is still a rare good to find in stock.

So here is my gentle advice to Fujifilm.

Dear Fujifilm, maybe you didn’t notice, but people do buy your stuff. Don’t be so pessimistic in your predictions anymore, and just start to announce stuff that you can actually produce in good numbers and deliver. Letting us wait for half a year or more is not fun.

Fujifilm GFX50R Discontinued, Zero Rumors About GFX50RII and Dreams About GFX100R

It’s over.

According to reports at digitalcameraworld, the Fujifilm GFX50R is now discontinued.

As a huge Fujifilm X-E line lover, the Fujifilm GFX50R would have been my most natural step into Fujifilm medium format.

However, as I don’t switch from X-Trans APS-C to Full Frame because the difference is negligible (and with lots of advantages on the APS-C side, too), I also thought that sure, going from 26 to 50 MP is OK, but at this point I prefer to go all-in and grab a 100 megapixel medium format Fujifilm GFX100S.

If there was a Fujifilm GFX100R, I’d have grabbed that one. But it looks like all I can do is to hope that one day in the future Fujifilm will give us either a Fujifilm GFX100R or an X-T styled GFX100 (as shown in these official Fujifilm prototypes).

But don’t get me wrong.

A camera with a PSAM dial, a dedicated custom settings dial and top LCD is stupidly easy and fast to operate. The total opposite of the original GFX100, which is the only Fujifilm camera I’ve ever hold in my hands where I thought “WTF, need to grab that owners manual“.

But I can’t really fall in love with cameras that are stupidly easy to use, I prefer those who are FUN to operate. Like my X-E or X-T cameras.

So, my wish for the GFX future are a GFX100R and GFX100T. But so far, I have absolutely zero rumors about it. And for the records, I have also zero rumors about a Fujifilm GFX50RII.

In any case, if you are also attracted by the rangefinder styled medium format Fujifilm cameras, then better grab yours now, as who knows for how long we will find the Fujifilm GFX50R in stock now that it is discontinued.

Good bye, Fujifilm GFX50R. I was one of the very first people to touch you, back then, at the photokina 2018, where I even illegally smuggled into the fair one day ahead of its official launch to meet you. May your heritage continue to live in the GFX lineup.
