Fujifilm X-H1 IBIS Test, Bugs Update, and More

The Photography Team Youtube – Fuji X-H1 IBIS Test compared to Fujifilm X-T2 – 90mm Lens

Fujifilm X-H1 Roundup

We already reported yesterday about the AUTO ISO bug and about the occasional lock-ups. And we also recommended you to use only Fujifilm approved SD-cards to avoid your camera to freeze, as well as using the NP-W126S batteries.

So, if you want to read more, and see the full list of Fujifilm recommended SD-card, read yesterday’s article here.

Now a new video showed up, showing how the camera locks up when using E-Front curtain shutter. We do not know if the tester has a “Fuji approved” SD-card. But I thought to share it anyway, so that you guys can try to duplicate it. You’ll find the video down below, but first feedback is that issue can NOT be duplicated by others.

My personal opinion is that the E-front fail is due to a faulty sample.

Also in this roundup, some IBIS tests, comparisons to Panasonic and more.

I will give you the link down below, and all the youtube videos will be also embedded in the article after the links.

Fujifilm X-H1 Auto ISO Bug? + Avoid Lock Ups Using Fujifilm Recommended SD-Cards

Fujifilm X-H1 Auto ISO Bug?

The Fujifilm X-H1 has just been released, and our hyperactive Fujifilm X-H1 facebook community found a possible bug. Auto ISO settings keep reset to factory settings if you use the Q Menu. Also FR-reader contacted me via email to report me this (thanks).

Here are three reports:

JASON: Hi all. So I’m wondering if this is a new setting or user error or a bug but I’m finding that the three auto iso settings keep defaulting back to their factory settings and don’t keep my settings? This happens only when I switch between my custom settings in the Q menu. Doesn’t happen with my X-T2’s. Anyone else found this?

JOSH: Is anyone else having a bug where their Auto ISO presets reset after the camera is turned off and on?

TORSTEN: I found a bug! I customized my Auto-ISO settings, but after changing / switching to another C-Setting (C1-C7) the Auto-ISO is resetting to the default values

Fujifilm X-H1 Lock-Ups

There are some reports at our group about lock-ups.

So far it seems lock ups happen mostly to people, who use different SD-cards to those recommended by Fujifilm. Using Fujifilm recommended SD-cards fixed the issue for them. So make sure you use SD-cards appoved by Fujifilm for the X-H1. You can see the list here.

Additionally, FR-readers could expand this list by posting their working (exact) SD-Card Model in the comments. Thanks Frank.

However, some X-H members, like Peter here, say “I have approved cards and faster than approved cards and still experience the lockups however I’ve noticed a correlation to what shutter mode I’m using and since the shutter mechanism is a new element in the technology it makes sense that it may be the cause. At least from my findings. Trying to see if others are experiencing the same thing“.

Besides the Fujifilm recommended SD-Cards, make sure to use the correct NP-W126S batteries (and not NP-W126 – orginal or third party).

And of course, comment and give feedback… you know Fujifilm manager read (and even love) us.

Confirmed: Better Autofocus for Fujifilm X-H1 compared to Fujifilm X-T2

Fujifilm X-H1 Autofocus

Over a month ago here, we already told you that the Fujifilm X-H1 will have an improved autofocus compared to any X-series camera currently available.

At that time, though, it was still “just” a rumor from a new source.

But now I can confirm from long time trusted sources that,

the autofocus of the Fujifilm X-H1 will be even more accurate and has better low light focusing than Fujifilm X-T2

I know some of you guys are still sceptic about the X-H1, and that’s a good thing, because once it will be announced on February 15, you will be all extremely positively surprised ;) .

3D Print Your Fujifilm Battery and SD-Card Boxes & More – UPDATE

Miguel Ángel López made some 3D printed boxes for Fujifilm NP-W126/S and NP-95 batteries as well as for SD-cards.

If you own a 3D printer, down below you can find the free STL files.

Thanks a lot to Miguel Ángel López from the Spanish site Fujistas.

Also, check out the SD card holder insert for film canisters made by FR-reader exkeks.

And if you need a lens hood for the 23mm, check out the 3D pritner XF-LH23.

FR-reader Stefan linked to a very nice Battery Cover made by Carsten. You can check it out here. He writes: “I am also able to see which batteries are empty and which are full (e.g. the middle one is empty where you can see the metal contact.) Just put the battery upside down when its empty

Fujifilm X-H1: Dual IBIS + OIS Combo Now Working Together!

Fujifilm X-H1 Dual IS

Back in October, I told you that “currently” the OIS and IBIS on the Fujifilm X-H1 do not work together.

However, I also told you that this could be related only to the current firmware and that maybe Fujifilm might be able to implement this feature in future.

And here is today’s good rumor:

I hear that Fujifilm worked on it and that OIS and IBIS now work together. Just in time for the official Fujifilm X-H1 announcement on February 15.

Now, I have no idea about the detailed way it works and if there are still some limitations of some kind. For this, we will have to wait February 15, when the Fujifilm X-H1 will be announced and we will know everything in detail.

But it’s good to know that you will be able to use both, OIS and IBIS, together.

I have my live blogging kit ready… make sure to join us on FujiRumors for the big live blogging on February 15.

What About Sensor Shift Multishot?

Back in September, I told you that the Fujifilm X-H1 will not have the sensor shift multishot feature.

On this front I have not heard anything new, so I guess that at launch it won’t have this feature. But also in this case, maybe Fujifilm will figure it out right in time.

It’s coming… stay tuned on FujiRumors via Facebook, RSS-feed and Twitter

Fujifilm X-H1 with Electronic First Curtain Shutter (EFCS)

Fujifilm X-H1

Hey guys! Everything ok? I hope so :) .

I allow myself to bother you today, because there is a new rumor to share, about the Fujifilm X-H1, which will be announced February 15.

According to our trusted sources, the Fujifilm X-H1 will have “electronic first curtain shutter” (EFCS).

robertotoole explains very good how electronic first curtain shutter (EFSC) works:

When you press the shutter button to take a picture the electronic first curtain shutter uses a high-speed scanning system that mimics a mechanical first curtain shutter operation then synchronizes with a mechanical second curtain shutter to cover the sensor and end the exposure. Any vibration caused by the second curtain shutter happens after exposure has ended.

When you press the shutter button to take a picture with EFSC disabled or with a camera without EFSC a mechanical first curtain shutter uncovers the sensor and the second curtain follows along to form a slot to expose the sensor. The mechanical first curtain causes vibrations to occur throughout the exposure. This can lead to image blurring with high magnification macro or telephoto work.”

I know what you think… the X-H1 has the same sensor of X-T2, the same processor of X-T2… so will EFCS come to X-T2 via Kaizen firmware update? Let’s hope so :) .
