Fujifilm’s List of 40MP Supported Lenses has One Big Mystery!

The Famous List – Updated

Last time we gave you an update on which Fujinon lenses will get maximum benefit from the 40MP sensors, it was back in 2022.

Since then, Fujifilm has updated the list with new lenses. But for some obscure reason, they hide the list somewhere in a tab inside the Fujifilm X-H2 product page.

So I have collected all lenses currently listed by Fujifilm into a single page on my Amazon page here. I will update the list as soon as Fujifilm adds new lenses to it.

An Important Clarification

Don’t misunderstand it: it’s not that lenses that are not on the list won’t work on Fujifilm’s 40MP camera bodies. It’s just that, unlike other companies who do not disclose anything, Fujifilm was upfront and told customers which lenses will be able to resolve all the 40MP and which ones not.

But also lenses not on the list, will profit from higher resolution cameras. Fujifilm writes:

The list specifies Fujifilm’s selection of lenses that have high resolution performance from edge to edge at maximum aperture, allowing to fully experience all that the 40MP sensor has to offer. Lenses not listed will also allow you to experience the improved resolution performance of the 40MP sensor.

The One Mystery

But as transparent Fujifilm might be compared to other companies, there is something strange on that famous list.

Inside the list we can find the wonderful Fujinon XF35mmF2 R WR, which I know many of you own and love.

Now the mystery is this one: since there is the Fujinon XF35mmF2 R WR on the list, why is there no Fujinon XC35mmF2 on it?

Because Fujifilm explained us that both lenses, the XF35mmF2 R WR and the XC35mmF2 have the same optics inside (which is confirmed by reviews, who did not notice any difference in image quality).

The difference is only in the build quality and features. The XC35mmF2 has a plastic mount and overall is made more out of plastic (and therefore is also lighter) and has no aperture ring, which overall just gives us a more affordable lens with same optical quality of its more expensive sibling.

But since they are optically the same (and reviews point out that the image quality is the same too), also the Fujinon XC35mmF2 should be on the list.

Maybe Fujifilm just forgot to add it to the list? If so, please Fujifilm, add the XC35mmF2 to the list.
