Tethering for Mac

I really hope this rumor, coming from a new source, is right: the long awaited Adobe tethered shooting plug-in will be available for download in August at the Adobe Exchange site.

In the meantime, FXF member SteveMcN was apparantly able to get the plug-in directly from Fujifilm via WeTransfer. He said he will check the plug-in and report back in this FXF Thread. If you don’t want to miss SteveMcN’s report, join the Fuji X Forum, click on this thread and select “Follow This Thread” to get an email notification, as soon as he has shared his findings.

Tethering for Windows

Windows users can purchase the HS-V5 software for tethered shooting in Europe at AmazonDE, AmazonUK, AmazonITA, AmazonFRA and AmazonESP… still not available in USA.

NOTE: Fujifilm already released a firmware update for the HS-V5 (ver. 1.1a). You can download it at Fuji’s site here.

Fujifilm really messed it up with the tethered shooting. Feel free to share your frustration here.

FUJIFILM CONFIRMS: New Firmware for Fuji X-E2 at the end of this year!

 photo teutrt_zpsiwabeony.jpg

So it seems that another rumor (shared almost two months ago here) is right: the New Firmware for Fujifilm X-E2 will be released at the end of this year…. and this time it’s not just a rumor, but it’s Fujifilm itself that confirms to Steven via email (he then shared it on Twitter here).

They did not say which features will come with the new firmware.

It was already known that Fujifilm will launch a new firmware (thanks to Fuji France here). However, this time Fujifilm confirms also the rumored release of late 2015.

Fujifilm will launch the first X series camera with 1” sensor in about 3 months (Anonymous Source)

 photo SUPERZOOM_zpsaaivggdu.jpg

According to an anonymous source, Fuji will announce a X series camera with an 1” sensor in the next few months (around September / October). It could have a fixed zoom lens with a range similar to the one of the Fujifilm X-S1, which has a 24-624mm zoom lens.

Sounds a lot like the Fujifilm X-S2, but this is not part of the rumor.

Anyway, will we soon have the first X-series camera featuring a 1” sensor?

To be clear, the grain of salt is mandatory with every rumor I share (especially anonymous rumors). Don’t take everything as a fact, just because my rumor hit rate is of almost 90% in 2015 – btw, many of them shared by anonymous sources.

I hope I will be able to confirm it via trusted source as soon as possible, and that I can say once again: “Hey, I told you” ;) .

RUMOR: XF100-400 and XF120mmF2.8 delayed! (anonymous source)

 photo 100-400 and 120 delay_zpsutvagaye.jpg

An anonymous source told me that both, the XF100-400 and XF120mmF2.8 1:1 Macro, have been delayed.

The reason for the delay? The source said that Fuji was not fully satisfied with the IQ of the 100-400 and they want to improve it further. Also, Fuji was (and still is) very busy to satisfy the high demand on current WR lenses.

In the latest roadmap here, Fuji expected the XF100-400 to be available in March, and the XF120mm in May. The anonymous source did not share any new expected release date for now.

MESSAGE TO THIS SOURCE: Thanks for sharing. In case you decide to share more information in future anonymously via rumor box, feel free to give yourself a nick-name. If you do, please write your next message in a way I can recognize you are the same person, who shared this rumor.

Sony A7000 (+ X-PRO2?) with better dyamic range than the Full Frame A7 series thanks to native “on sensor HDR”! src-SAR

 photo dede_zpsaylxpyoo.jpg

Ok, for now it’s “just” a rumor… but a pretty exciting one ;) .

According to SonyAlphaRumors here, the Sony A7000 (and therefore maybe also the Fuji X-PRO2) could be the first mirrorless cameras of the world featuring a native “on sensor HDR”.

SAR says that “both, stills and video are capable of 15.5 stops of dynamic range!”

15.5 stops!!! That’s more than any Sony Full Frame A7 series camera! In fact, DxO calculates the following DR:

– Sony A7s: 13.2 f-stops
– Sony A7: 14.2 f-stops
– Sony A7r: 14.1 f-stops

– X-Trans 1 (X-Pro1/X-E1)  has about 9.5 f-stops – source
– X-Trans 2 (X-T1, X-E2 & Co) has about 13 f-stops according to measurments of Jordan (Admiringlight) and also imaging-resource, which puts it slightly ahead of the A6000.

If the rumor is right, then this feature would make the new APS-C sensor generation even more advanced than the latest Full Frame sensor of the brand new Sony A7rII.

And I’m curious to see if the special X-Trans CFA will give us even more than the rumored 15.5 f-stops of the A7000.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

According to SAR, a similar technology is already used in the Xperia Z smartphone for video recording. Sony describes it here:

HDR for VIDEO: To achieve true HDR video recording, the advanced Exmor RS camera sensor in Xperia Z changes the exposure every two lines of pixels. This creates a spatially varying exposure (SVE) array image, which is then used to make an image that is perfectly exposed in both dark and light areas. To simplify the concept, for each frame the camera shoots one picture with two different exposure levels at the same time, one light and one dark. Then, an intelligent software algorithm is used to combine (synthesize) the two shots into one picture, pixel by pixel. This allows you to see the details of both the dark and the bright parts of the picture.

And for Stills? Maybe it works as described in this Sony Patent here, that shows a sensor, where every pixel is exposed differently. So, the pixels in a dark area would become “long exposure pixels” and those in bright areas “short exposure pixels”. But the rumor published on SAR does not specify if it works this way.

In the past, Fuji used the EXR sensor (which can be found in the X-S1 and X10) to expand dynamic range. But in the battle between EXR and X-TRANS, Fuji went for the latter one.

Fuji currently offers the efficient DR expansion feature (DR200 = 1 stop underexposure / DR400 = 2 stops underexposure). The extra Dynamic Range is stored into the RAW files and allows you to recover a lot of highlight detail in post.

It’s time to update 2 of the 3 polls launched after my Sony A7000 sensor specs rumor of last week.
