I’ve been informed by some readers, that the shipping embargo for the X-Pro2 in USA will be March 3… and indeed, checking the BHphoto site, they now mark it as available on March 3 :)
This update support for the X-Pro2 (currently uncompressed format only), X-E2S and X70 models. This release also fixes a couple Fujifilm specific bugs including an incorrect baseline exposure for intermediate (non whole stop) ISO settings above 3200 and a bug with the EXIF 35mm focal length equivalent value in exported images for some of the fixed lens models (X100S, X100T, X100 and probably a few other compacts). Plus with this update Brian has refined the default camera profile for all X-Trans (and some of the X Bayer sensors too). Of course all prior Fujfilm preset packs for the various camera film styles (Astia, Provia, Velvia, …) are still applicable and seem to work reasonably well with the new sensor in the X-Pro2 as well. Brian will likely be refining the film presets some in the future specifically for the X-Pro2 and adding the new style(s) added with the X-Pro2 as well.
A FR-reader just told me that he got an email from Fujifilm confirming that his X-Pro2 will be ready for pickup on March 3rd in Tokyo! The reader also send me the screenshots of Fujifilm’s email, which I will share as soon as (if) I get the permission of the FR-reader (thanks for sharing :-) )
UPDATE: See bottom of this post for the Fujifilm email
UDPATE 2: It’s now officially also on Fuji’s Japanese website here.
So I guess BHphoto is spot on, when they say they will start shipping it on March 10.
The X-Pro2 is overall a little step forward over the X-T1 in terms of Dynamic Range, ISO-performance, AF-speed. In terms of resolution (and compared to the D7200) “Fuji is not pushing far ahead of any of the other comparable sensors, but they are certainly getting on par with the latest technology“.
From the conclusions:
Autofocus: Improved Vastly, just not the speed, more the handling (AF speed not yet on a par with Panasonic & Sony A6300)
Image Quality: Although Fuji brings the X-Pro2 to a level everybody is at (24MP), Fujifilm is still owning for overall color, look, feel and contrast out of the box. JPEGs are beautiful. The RAWs are very similar as well! You just get this great looking photo, very little post to be done.
Moreover, the entire episode was filmed on a X-Pro2, and this is what Jordan told me in his email to me:
“We were able to test the RAW image quality of a production X-Pro 2, but also shoot the entire episode on one. I was shocked with how much better the image quality on the new sensor is!”
Fuji Managers said it here: “Customers are requesting more compact lenses. Our 35mm F2 is one example. So we may need to supplement this lens [with others of this kind].”
And tell me… over the last few years, which has been the most requested compact lens by the FujiRumors community in different Polls we have launched on this blog? You got it… it’s the Fujinon XF23mmF2! Now guess what? It seems Fujifilm listened (and you know they read FujiRumors).
According to our reliable sources, the XF23mmF2 (which is still not in the roadmap), will be launched this year… and probably even before the XF120mm (which is in the roadmap)!
So it’s time for me to update again the rumored-lens-roadmap.
