My name is Nick St.Oegger, I’m a documentary photographer from California.

I recently completed my major project as part of a Master’s degree in Documentary Photography at the University of Westminster in London. I was part of a collective who traveled to Port Talbot, Wales to produce different stories about the town, which has been in a state of crisis since the owners of the nearby steel plant announced plans to sell off all their UK assets last spring.

I shot the entire project using an X100T I recently acquired after my Leica was stolen.

Despite an initial hesitation based on previous experiences with the first X100 and early Fuji X cameras, I found the camera an absolute delight to use for the project in terms its light weight and beautiful color output. The whole multimedia piece can be viewed at: www.ptbypassed.com

The Port Talbot Bypass was Wales’ first motorway and the first part of what would become the larger M4. Conceived in the 1930s but finished in 1994, the M4 provided a much-needed economic link between England and the historically depressed south of Wales. It served as a major upgrade to the previous main route between the two countries, the A48, which offered motorists a slow, often perilous journey along winding roads. When the 4.5 mile long stretch was opened in 1966, the town was still experiencing a boom period due to the nearby steelworks, which employed close to 20,000 people. Issues with traffic had been worsening due to an increase in motorists and a growing shift to road based shipping routes. Traffic jams through Port Talbot were a common sight, made worse by a railway crossing that periodically halted traffic, making simple trips across town burdensome.

Discover The Mostly Used Lenses (+ Settings) by X-Shooters on Their Fujifilm X-Cameras :: Explorecams Extended Features!

X-Gear Explored

We have reported about explorecams.com first back in July here. The sites, that collectes information from Flickr, 500px and other popular Photo Sharing Sites, told us which are the Top 5 used brands on those platforms (and Fujifilm was – and still is – in the Top 5).

Well, explorecams has extended its features, and you can now see also which lenses are used mostly on which X-series camera.

Just type in the camera you want (for example Fujifilm X-Pro2 or Fujifilm X-T2), and explorecams will give you a nice graphic with the top 5 lenses used for each camera. In case of the X-Pro2 and X-T2, it’s not really surprising to see that the X-Pro2 is mostly used with primes (XF35mmF2 WR is first), whereas the X-T2 mostly with zoom lenses (10-24 is first). Just scroll down, and you’ll see the ranking of every used lens (Fujinon and third party) in combination with your selected X-series camera.

Moreover, you’ll also get an insight on the most popular settings used, such as ISO value, Shutter speed, metering mode, aperture, focal length and more!

Have fun with explorecams.com and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments down below.

Confirmed: Upcoming EU-X Deals will Include Fuji X-Pro2 (€100 off) at least in Some Countries :: Message to Sources

Share

eu

the current deal in Germany/Austria: Save €300 on all Fujifilm X-T1 combos. All the details at AmazonDE

_ _ _

I got one more hint, from an anonmyous source with nick name (thanks), that the upcoming EU-X deals starting tomorrow, will include a €100 price drop on the Fujifilm X-Pro2 (as well as prices drop on other cameras – like X-T1 – and lenses).

Please note that in Europe, every country can make some changes to the deals, or even do not offer them at all. I have information just about “some” countries.

At this point I’d like to send a message to sources (especially anonymous ones). First off thanks for sharing :)… and second: sometimes I receive pretty detailed information. I obviously handle everything with the greatest care and try to find what I believe the best way to share the information. But of course, the final world is up to you. So, if you share anonymously (meaning I have no possibility to know who you are and to contact you), you might also include some notes for me, about what I can share and what not. This would give me the certainty to handle everything as you desire it. If I do not get any indication, I will always share it in a way that I believe you will feel 100% comfortable with.

Fujifilm is Suing Grey Market Sellers to Stop Import Sales :: Should You Buy Grey Market Gear?

Share

2000px-Fujifilm_logo.svg

Fujifilm decided to file lawsuits against several grey market retailers… just like Canon did last year for the same reason (read more at CanonWatch)

The news broke first at worldipreview, later on reported also at phoblographer… here is what they say:

Fujifilm contents that in many cases these imports can differ from the correctly imported products in many ways and are likely not up to the same standard. […] The issue lies in that consumers are purchasing these grey market imports and in many cases they are unaware that they have one. […] So if something breaks, is defective, or if the product is a knockoff and not real Fujifilm is the company they go for answers, and it is Fujifilm reputations that is hurt because of it.”

[…] According to Fujifilm, the cameras physically and materially differ from products authorised for import to and sale in the US.

Defendants’ importation … and/or sale within the US of grey market cameras intended for markets outside of the US is likely to result in consumer confusion and stymie FNAC’s [Fujifilm North America Corporation’s] quality control efforts, causing irreparable harm to FNAC that will continue unless such conduct is enjoined,” said the suit. Fujifilm explained that in order to maintain quality control over genuine Fujifilm X and Instax-branded products, it sells them only through a channel of “specifically authorised local dealers and distributors

The camera manufacturer alleged that the products are different in terms of the geographical warranties, the packaging and product labelling, serial numbers and tracking codes, and accessories.

Now, in the past, here on FR, I’ve occasionally linked to grey market X-series gear. Of course I clearly informed you that these were import models and I linked only if the seller was top rated on ebay and the grey market item had at least one year seller (not Fujifilm) warranty. And so far, at least to the retailers I’ve linked here on FR, I’ve never heard a complaint from customers.

Some of the deals these retailers offered, were just insane… unmatched also by the best official Fujifilm deals.

But what worries me now, is that Fujifilm claims that some grey market cameras/lenses can “physically and materially differ” from the ones sold via official Fujifilm distributors and also seem to have counterfeit serial numbers.

I’d like Fujifilm to publish the name of those retailers, so that we can be aware of which stores avoid.

FYI: Fujifilm US has a clear list of authorized Fujiflm dealers here.
