Fujifilm wins the Hermes Award for Innovation in the category of Best Strategy of Innovation
– organized by Paris Club and European Institute for Creative Strategies & Innovation
June 20, 2017
FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Kenji Sukeno) has been awarded the Hermes Award for Innovation, organized by the Paris Club and the European Institute for Creative Strategies & Innovation, in the category of Best Strategy of Innovation.
Yes, the inevitable is happening. People start to compare the brand new Sony A9 with the Fujifilm X-T2 and X-Pro2.
Now, I will say it once for all, so you can avoid to say it in the comments: “These comparisons are all unfair“. :-)
Ok… with that said, here is todays roundup, entirely focused on comparisons (and thoughts) between Sony and Fuji.
Sony Shooter Reviews Fujifilm X-T2
Let’s start with a Fujifilm X-T2 from a Sony APS-C shooter perspective (video above). The reviewer loves the X-T2 a lot. The colors, ACROS, the controls, the better lenses… there seems to be a lot to love on the X-T2 over Sony’s APS-C System.
DPreview’s lab test shows that the IQ of the APS-C Fujifilm X-Pro2 can easily keep up with the IQ of the much more expensive FF Sony A9. Actually, X-Pro2 images look noticeably sharper, have way less false colors… overall, IQ on the X-Pro2 seems to be better than on the Sony A9.
However, you buy the Sony A9 for its speed and the black-out less EVF, and I guess A9 owners are ok with sacrificing a bit of IQ for that. The Fujifilm X-Pro2 can’t for sure keep up with the AF-tracking capabilities of the Sony A9 (and also not with the tracking capability of the Fujifilm X-T2).

Fuji X-T2 Electronic Shutter for Sports. As good as Sony A9?
dsphotoblog tested the Fujifilm X-T2 for sports using the electronic shutter. The point of the video is to show that the X-T2 electronic shutter is also really good and give you a EVF-lag-less experience. So he concludes that:
A9 is overpriced
A9 mechanical shutter very slow (5fps) whereas the X-T2 shoots at 11fps
Fujifilm X-T2 better value for money
with booster grip, also the X-T2 electronic shutter shows no EVF lag
RECAP: Back in early April we broke the news here on FujiRumors, that Godox is working on major Fujifilm support. Here is their original plan (but there was a delay on it)
Godox Plan: TT350F Fuji April-May 2017 (Update: delayed to June 30)
If TT350 is good, Move to 685 and V860II.
If all is good move to X1 Fuji and X1 Olympus. (Update: Rumor has it there will be an X2 for Fujifilm)
The same time firmware update for all 2.4G light accept Fuji and Olympus AD200 60 bulb LED light head May-June 2017.
Back on March 24, Cactus announced that they are working on a free firmware upgrade on the Cactus V6 IIs and Cactus V6 II transceivers to support cross-brand wireless TTL on Fujifilm cameras.
They also launched a dedicated website, and told us to stay tuned for updates, so I visited that special Cactus page a few times every day for almost 3 months now and finally something happened :)
Today, Cactus finally updated their X-TTL website. Here is what they say:
“The X-TTL firmware gives photographers an unprecedented flexibility. The need for matching flashes with the same camera system for on and off-camera TTL flash photography is over – TTL without boundaries.“
The Firmware update to support Fujifilm cameras is available now, along with support for Sony and Sigma. More brands will follow.
“The first wave of firmware releases will be for Fujifilm, Sony and Sigma. Other camera systems, i.e. Pentax, Canon, Nikon, Olympus and Panasonic, will follow one by one as we complete system integration on the V6 II.”
