Lot’s of great feedback about the Fujifilm X-T2 so far. The Stills are great (no surprise), the Autofocus Tracking and Accuracy seems to be vastly improved (see TCSTV Video Review) and big surprise… 4K shooting works. No moiré, no overheating, sharp and nice images.

The Fujifilm X-T2 is Fujifilm’s most complete camera… and if all the initial excellent feedback will get confirmed in future reviews, then it might be one of the best mirrorless allrounder out there… if not the best. And if only the X-Pro2 could get those AF tracking custom settings, too….

So let’s continue our X-T2 Coverage:

Fujifilm Instax Share SP-1 vs SP-2: The Battle (VIDEO)

This short Video by balbo42 shows the huge image quality improvement of the Instax Share SP-2 printer over its predecessor, the Instax Share SP-1.

I remind you that it also features rechargeable batteries. And yes, you can print directly from you X-series camera to the printer.

Fuji X-T2 Vs. Sony A6300: “Fantastic Autofocus. Can compete with DSLRs. In some cases tracks better than A6300” – TheCameraStoreTV

Episode recorded on X-T2… the A6300 was just overheating too much

TheCameraStoreTV tested a pre-production X-T2… so take it with a grain of salt for now. But it really seems that Fuji vastly improved Autofocus.

Chris tested the Fujifilm X-T2 against the Sony A6300, and says that the performance is “very comparable to the Sony A6300, in some cases it actually tracks better.” Also because, unlike the Sony A6300, the Fuji gives you more customizability on controlling how the camera tracks subjects. And you can see in the video how well it really works.

Chris says that there are now 2 mirrorless camera contenders, who can handle anything a DSLR can handle for Sports: the Fuji X-T2 and the Sony A6300.

Video Guy Jordan tested the 4K features and says there is no overheating when shooting 4K (even longer videos) and no Moiré.

Fuji X-T2 + 4K Video: “There is no Moiré. Sharp and more cinematographic than GH4. I can use it 100% for Video”

X-Trans and Video never were good friends.

Both, the X-TransI and X-TransII sensor had some serious issue with moiré in videos. However, already the X-Pro2 dramatically improved the Video Quality of Fuji Cameras.

But what about the 4K on the Fujifilm X-T2? Videographer Emmanuel Pampuri says:

Picture quality is amazing. […] It’s more cinematographic than the GH4 […] We don’t have the f-log on firmware right now, Fuji is still working on it. […] Picture quality is very sharp. There is no aliasing, no moiré… it’s beautiful. […] I can use it properly 100% for the Video […] Fuji is still developing the firmware. I get a new firmware every two days […] Battery life is not so good if you don’t use it with vertical grip […] It’s still a CMOS sensor, so there is still an issue with the rolling shutter.

Fujifilm X-T2 Vs. Nikon D810 Action Shoot Comparison :: but is the Test 100% Fair?

Fujifilm X-T2
BHphoto / AmazonUS / Adorama

There is a Video going quite viral right now, and I also get many emails about it: Fujifilm X-T2 Vs. Nikon D810 Sport Photography Comparison!

The video compares the Nikon D810 Vs. Fujifilm X-T2 for Sport Photography. The testers make some right observations and they have lots of good thing to say… but also a few bad things about the X-T2 (or the lenses for sports). Some of those bad things are absolutely spot on.

However, the testers, John & Jeong, might have been a tiny bit too over-hasty when making the overall conclusions (which are mostly positive anyway)… for these 2 reasons:

  1. Unlike the Nikon D810, the Fujifilm X-T2 is a BETA camera, which means the Firmware is not final. And if there is one thing Fujifilm can (and will) improve from here to September (X-T2 release), then it’s the AF-performance. That’s why TheCameraStoreTV & Co didn’t mention AF-speed in their first looks: they know Fujifilm is right now tweaking it!
In the Video they say the X-T2 can keep up with the D810 (which is not really the Nr1 sports camera in the Nikon offering). These are acutally quite good results, for a Beta-Camera. I’m confindent that the final firmware will improve the AF even more.
  2. The test was made without vertical Grip attached, which boosts the continuous AF performance of the Fujifilm X-T2. Consider also that, as umad said in the comments, “the camera has 100fps in boost mode. And the other boost mode on the vertical grip reduces blackout, improves AF and other thing“. And the blackout time was a major complaint in the video. The Grip might reduce the blackout.

I like the stuff John & Jeong are doing on their channel. However, in this case I think they were not 100% accurate. They should repeat it with final firmware and vertical grip attached. That would be fair… and that I’ll share here on FR again.

For now, with no final firmware available, it might be too early to jump to any conclusions.
