XF-lens deals

I’ve received the udpated rebate document of Fujifilm. It confirms that the rebates will go till April 5th. It’s a confidential file, so it’s just between you and me, don’t tell around ;-).

And EU-readers shouldn’t be angry about the fact that the rebates apply only to the US. In fact you can order the lenses in the US, pay taxes and shipping, and still save hundreds of Euro. You can get the 27mm for about €230 in Germany, Italy, France… and all the the other EU-countries that very rarely (or never) see a rebate on X-gear.

EU-ORDERS: FR-reader Oscar (ordered at BHphoto): “Just to confirm you that this EU-order thing works even if one order from Italy. I ordered the XF27mm. Paid 199$ + 43$ (for delivery) to B&H, which is the equivalent of 175€. Waited one week because of the back-order but as soon as the lens was available it took 2 days to arrive at my doorstep. And because I’ve chosen to pay all duties and taxes on delivery, I paid 54€ to the mailman (UPS), for a grand total of 229€. Not bad for a lens that’s available at 400/450€. Thanks a lot to FR ;)!”

However, I wonder if all these rebates we have seen over the last year are really good for Fujifilm and its customers. There are PROS and CONS such as:

PROS: new customers can switch cheap to the X and Fujifilm gains market shares CONS: resale price of used gear ([shoplink 12881 ebay]used X-E1 almost 60% cheaper on ebay now[/shoplink] compared to a new one 1½ years ago, when it hit the market) / people won’t buy X-gear at normal price and wait for the next price drop… and Fuji doesn’t make profit selling discounted X-gear.
