FUJIFILM Promises to Focus More on Video (Interview with Manager T. Ilda)

Cinema5D had the opportunity to interview Fujifilm Top Manager Toshihisa Iida (who is also a FujiRumors Lover, as you can see here) :)

It’s of course a more video-centric interview, also focussing on the recently released Fujinon MK lenses. But they also talk about the GFX, X-T20 and X-T2. Here some excerpts:

  • MK lenses not designed to support EF-mount. Fuji wants to make the lens as small as possible. Hence only X and E-mount (small flange distance)
  • Fuji has best glass and best IQ. So Fujifilm has a lot of potential for video market, using the great glass and IQ.
  • Q: Will you continue to support and explore new was to reach higher quality when it comes to the camera side? A: I’m very postive or optimistic with our future R&D development
  • GFX focus in on still photography. This does not necessarly mean we limit GFX to stills. It has big potential for future also for videos

Fujifilm said that the X-mount versions of the MK18-55mm T2.9 and MK50-130mm T2.9 will come in late 2017.

So here’s the first test with a human subject. A quick shoot this evening using the Nikon 58mm 1.4G on the Fuji GFX almost the whole time and I think I shot a few with the LensBaby Edge 80 lens but I don’t think any of these samples were with the Edge 80.

Best Mirrorless Camera for Wildlife Photography: “Fujifilm X-T2 Best AF Performance of Any Mirrorless”… but the Winner is?

Oh… if only the Fujifilm X-T2 would ship as fast as it focusses :(

Best Mirrorless for Wildlife Photography

From all the mirrorless cameras available right now at the market and tested by Mat from Mirrorlessons, which one is the best for wildlife and bird photography?

In his (as usual) well written and honest comparison, Mat says that the Fujifilm X-T2 has

the best AF performance and settings I’ve tested out of all mirrorless cameras” [Also the IQ] is top notch“.

Regarding the XF100-400 he says it is

excellent concerning sharpness, autofocus speed and optical stabilisation”

And yet, the Fujifilm X-T2 is not the number 1 mirrorless choice for wildlife photography, mainly because

  • live view only goes up to 5fps
  • the camera grip is not really designed for big lenses
  • no fast prime lenses – we need to wait for the long rumored XF200mmF2

So, at the end, it’s the Olympus OM-D E-M1 mark II to get the award for the best mirrroless camera for wildlife and bird photography. But make sure to read the whole comparison at mirrorlesscomparison.

And yes, I guess we will see the Sony A9 in the list too, once it is available for real life testings.

There are many fellow camera friends out there, who are still waiting for their X100F to come and/or have a hard time to find it in stock.

Till then, you can enjoy the great images photographers all around the world are sharing at the X100F facebook group and also check out the links below, for more images and reviews.

There is also a little bit of pixel peeping, although I know that X100 lovers are usually not really hard core pixel peepers.

New Firmware for Fujifilm X100F and X-T20 Coming in Autumn, 2017

Happy Monday, fellow X and G Shooters!

Let’s start the week with a rumor, but take this one with an extra grain of salt, because it’s not only a quite long term rumor, but also a firmware rumor.

With that said, here is what I’ve just heard.

According to a source, right in the past, Fujifilm is planing a firmware update for Fujifilm X100F and Fujifilm X-T20 in autumn 2017.

I have no indication about what it will bring. I doubt it will be huge firmware update, like the one the X-T2 recently got, but it could definitely be a “Kaizen light” firmware update.

I’ll investiagte this, and update you guys as soon as I hear something new. So stay tuned on FujiRumors via Facebook, RSS-feed and Twitter.

And I remind you that Fujifilm announced firmware updates for Fujifilm GFX, X-T2 and X-Pro2 in late May.
