– Fujifilm X-T1 ~ The Evolution Continues at kevinmullinsphotography here: “This Fuji X-T1 is without doubt going to be a prime body for me when I shoot weddings.  Coupled with the 56mm F1.2 lens I am indeed, a very happy jetlagged bunny.

– The 56mm and a little bit more of the X-T1 at neillsoden here: “The AF performed well, and I was happy with it for my needs. The AF-C is something to get used to and almost felt like a hit-and-miss at times. However, most of the time I was impressed when an object moved away from or towards me.  I did try the AF on some small birds. Now, I am no bird photographer, and can’t really compare it to the a DSLR, but in my own opinion, I doubt it will work for bird or sport photography just yet.”

moslake: “More tests for the capability of Fujifilm X-T1 with XF 56mm f1.2 under varying low and colorful lights. All are SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera) JPG without any adjustment. Link here. X-T1: Focusing speed is similar to 1DX/5D3 in low light. Accurate in color balance and capable to deliver Straight Out Of Camera JPGs. Quality similar to 1DX/5D3 in low light.”

– X-T1 review at danbaileyphoto here: “If you’re not ready to dump the DSLR yet, (I’m not either) the X-T1 makes an excellent companion camera for those times when you want to save on weight and bulk, but still need the performance of a pro grade camera. Maybe you’ll shoot the DSLR for some things and use the X-T1 for traveling and times when you want to go light. You’ll probably find yourself using the DSLR less and less.”

XF 56mm shipping in Japan! (+ £250 voucher for the WR 18-135 in UK?)

XF 56mm f/1.2: USA AmazonUS / BHphoto / AdoramaDigitalRev / – EUROPE: wexUK / wexDE / PCHstore / DigitalRev

_ _ _

Yesterday FR-reader Roger told us that a Japanese store just shipped his XF56mm… and today “The Green Balbo” (website: grittymonkey) shared an image on the FR-twitter account with the following image :-).

[UDPATE: Damien (grittymonkey) continues to diligentely share his findings on youtube: for the UHS-II vs UHS-I video click here, for the manual focus video here.]

Another FR-reader (moslake) shared in the comments to a previous post his Flickr (here) with his initial impression of Fujinon XF56 F1.2. “I’m ecstatic to find out that XF 56 delivers very beautiful bokeh. It wins hands down!” [admin: On his Flickr he compared it with the [shoplink 22141]Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II[/shoplink]. But it would have been better done with an 1.8 lens on a FF, as the Fujinon 1.2 is a 1.8 equivalent. To see more images of the beautiful bokeh of the 56mm, I recommend you to check out Rico’s first look here.]

RUMOR: An anonymous source, who said to work for a UK store, told me that: “the X-T1 body (not the kit) had a sticker for an offer where if the person registers the camera they can receive a £250 discount voucher for the XF18-135mm weather resistant lens when it comes out. Have you seen anyone else, uk or otherwise, have this same offer as it seems like no one has mentioned this yet.” The rumor is now confirmed by drphotorumor and another FR-reader too.

Available: Adobe Camera RAW 8.4 with X-T1 and Fuji’s film simulation support

 photo lensp_zps82b21663.jpg

[UDPATE: Initial test at Tom Grill (aboutphotography) here: “I have applied the new beta 8.4 corrections to some Fuji RAW files in Photoshop and did a blog post on it showing the results along with some downloadable samples your readers might find interesting“]

Adobe Labs released the latest prerelease version of Camera Raw 8.4 RC and DNG Converter 8.4 RC Now here. No equivalent Lightroom RC for now.

It now supports, not only the X-T1, but, as a trusted source told us in January also Fuji’s film simulations. Read more at the Lightroomjournal here..

Added Camera Matching color profiles (PROVIA/STANDARD, Velvia/VIVID, ASTIA/SOFT, MONOCHROME, etc.) for the following Fujifilm cameras:

The first feebdack comes from soundimageplus here: “finally, a much improved demosiacing algorithm that eliminates the smearing / watercolour problem with foliage in particular and in fact produces extremely nice raw conversions within Photoshop without the need for additional software.”

However, FR-readers can’t confirm the improved demosiacing until now. MJr said: “Well i guess soundimageplus just ASSUMED the demosaicing has improved and went straight to the comparison with Noise Ninja, not knowing it’s actually the VERY SAME algorithm as before. NO CHANGE AT ALL aside from the color presets (not that this isn’t quite awesome already!). What i did notice however is that the X-E1 renders a somewhat poorer image than the X-E2 or X-T1 raws do. So i’m guessing he simply discovered ACR/Lightroom already does a decent job with current bodies, most of the time.

As always, download, test and share your finding… some of you may also be able to test it on the new X-T1.

VOTE: the ultimate Kaizen firmware poll!

 photo neukai_zps49f24beb.png

Kaizen, continuous improvement philosophy. Japanese for “improvement” or “change for the best”, refers to philosophy or practices that focus upon continuous improvement of processes in manufacturing, engineering, and business management.” src-wikipedia

_ _ _

Do you remember Marco Ricci’s (website) firmware wish list the article “because we love Kaizenhere? Well, there where 163 comments with further suggestions for firmware improvements. I promised myself to look into it and sum them up in March, when I have a week of holidays and finally a bit more time to launch a new, updated firmware poll.

But I don’t have to, because, sometimes, it happens that FR-readers decides to surprise me and to help me.

So it happens that FR-reader DIS took a look at all firmware suggestions and summed them up into one big super-firmware-poll (divided in 3 blocks).

Everything is in there, even those firmware suggestions FR-reader DIS strongly disagrees with. So he said that, “the block “Other updates” has some strange or impossible to be realized things. It should be distinguished a lot from the main list. Otherwise it won’t be taken seriously by Fuji.

Now all you have to do, is to vote the top 3 firmware updates you’d like to see in each poll (and add in the comments the one you miss).

Thanks a lot for your time DIS!

And also thanks a lot to Fuji for keeping this Kaizen spirit and improving even discounted Fuji cameras (even though it means sacrificing sales earnings for customer loyalty as a Fuji manager told us here). This is how you treat your customers base.

And here are the polls: 3 blocks, each one with a maximum of 3 selections.

Bug reports

1. RAW/JPEG switch in Fn works only for the first shot. After the shot it’s back again.
2. Hot shoe instability: “So many times it is not working: getting frozen, not seeing the flash unit,… Both the X100 & X-Pro1 have very similar behavior. With third party stuff – transceivers – it gets even more wrong, sometimes working, sometimes not. I even had to perform a complete reset of the camera a few times, because the flash-shoe refused any operation. And Fuji, while you’re busy with this, make also the IR pilot light of the EF-42 work with the X-series to assist the AF in low light.”
3. Transfer of GPS coordinate from phones to X-E2 doesn’t work.
4. When your frame count reach the limit the only way to continue of making photo is to format card! Even if card is not full
