X-E5 is one of Fujifilm’s Greatest Cameras – But with One Big Flaw

Share

Yes guys, I have received my Fujifilm X-E5 (in this color) and I love it.

It’s by far the most beautiful X-E camera ever made. The build quality is excellent and it makes my X-E3 feel like a plastic toy in comparison. I love the new classic display mode which is now standard on my EVF. Just make sure that you have not enabled “Semi-Transparent” in the surround view mode, otherwise the classic display mode won’t show up. That drove me crazy for a while until I figured it out.

Besides that short freak-out moment (which luckily found a solution), I am absolutely in love with it.

But other fellow Fujifilm X-E5 shooters might be annoyed by other aspects of their X-E5. One of them is Derek, who wrote me the email below.

I hope you’re doing well and I hope you have your received Fujifilm X-E5 by now?

I’ve had mine for a couple of weeks now (black version) and it’s everything you think it will be. It’s just a notch bellow the X100VI, but almost there.

I’m emailing to point out it’s one massive flaw in the hope that you can maybe use your website to nudge Fujifilm in the right firmware direction as it’s driving me crazy.

My X-E5 will be used 95% of the time in manual focus mode with the Voigtlander 18/2.8 Color Skopar (the best street photography lens for Fujifilm by far), but……

THE FLAW – in the X-E5 (and also in the X100VI), when using Focus Check, the camera will zoom in to check focus when you manually focus (as it should), but unlike previous Fuji cameras, it does not cancel when you half press the shutter button. On the X-E5 and X100VI you either have to press the Disp/Back button, the joystick or assign another Fn button to cancel and go back to viewing the full frame. This is useless and by the time you do it, the shot has gone.

Thanks for reading my rant and I hope you can make it known.
