Fujifilm X-T4 Firmware 1.20 Released

Fujifilm has finally released the Fujifilm X-T4 firmware 1.40 that the Fuji Guys inadvertently leaked last week.

A new firmware for Fujifilm X-H1 should be released shortly, too. It fixes an annyoing IBIS bug when the X-H1 is used with the brand new Fujinon XF70-300mmF4-5.6.

Also, recently Fujifilm released firmware updates for Fujifilm X-T3, GFX50S and GFX50R as well as for X-E4, X-S10 and X-A7.

Down below the full details for X-T4 firmware 1.20.

Now the Fuji Guys posted a video overview on the new firmware.

What’s curious, is that they also talk about a new firmware 1.20 for Fujifilm X-T4, which in fact has not been released. So I guess we will see it coming very soon.

And what does the X-T4 firmware bring? Well, the Fuji Guys tell us the following:

DPReview Studio Test Scene: 150MP Phase One XF IQ4 vs Fujifilm GFX100(S) vs Sony A7RIV vs Panasonic S1R vs Fujifilm X-T4

A few days ago, DPReview has added the Phase One XF IQ4 150 Megapixel camera to their studio test scene database.

So how does this $50,000 monster compare to our humble Fujifilm GFX100 (and hence also to the brand new $6,000 Fujifilm GFX100S)?

Well, I don’t know you, but I frankly can’t see any noticeable difference, in some cases I even think the GFX100 looks better.

At high ISO on the other hand, the GFX100 clearly performs better than the Phase One XF IQ4, even though the sensor is the same (just cut bigger on the Phase One).

This might be in part merit of the excellent Fujinon GF lenses, which have no issue to take advantage of all 100 megapixels offered by the GFX100(S). On the other hand, it might also be that both cameras just resolve basically everything possible out of the DPR studio scene.

I did also add the two current highest resolution mirrorless full frame cameras to the comparison, the 61MP Sony A7RIV and the 47MP Panasonic S1R to the chart.

Where both medium format cameras simply have no issues to resolve everything out of the chart, we can see that the full frame cameras definitely show up with more false colors, moiré and artifacts in the fine details.

Just for fun I added one comparison with the Fujifilm X-T4 vs Sony A7RIV and Panasonic S1R.

Of course the Sony and Panasonic have more resolution power, but when details become really fine, and hence when all those megapixel would be really needed, in some areas the Sony A7rIV as well as the Panasonic S1R have the tendency to show more moiré, partially ruining the megapixel advantage they have, where the X-T4 shows no moiré.

As an X-Trans lover, I do hope Fujifilm will stick with it in their APS-C cameras and offer us something around 32+MP or so in the future, maybe with the Fujifilm X-H2. I am sure it would give great results.

Down below you can see some of the screenshots I took. You can head over to the DRP studio comparison tool and make your own comparisons.

New Fujifilm cashback deals have started all over Europe.

Down below I will list the deals for Germany, Italy and UK. Note that only UK offers a rebate on the X-S10 as well as a nice trade-in deal for GFX100S purchase.

Also, in UK the deals with X-T4 are cashback deals, whereas the ones on the X-T3, X-T30 and X-S10 are instant rebates.

You have to purchase via official Fujifilm retailers. Amazon is included in the list of authorized dealers for Germany and Italy, but you must make sure that the gear you buy is shipped and sold by Amazon, and not from marketplace sellers. Amazon is not included in the official retailer list for UK.

Once you get your gear, you can claim your money back at the Fujifilm connect website here for Germany, here for Italy and here for UK.

Fujifilm UK decided that it’s time to get rid of your full frame gear and offers you £450 trade in bonus (on top of the trade-in value of your FF camera) if you purchase the Fujifilm GFX100S. You can also trade in other medium format gear (full list below).

And not only that.

If you buy the Fujifilm GFX100S, you’ll get the Fujifilm BC-W235 dual battery charger for free or a free NP-W235 battery.

FUJIFILM Fiscal Year 2020/3 Results: Firm X-T4 and X-S10 Sales Push Operating Income Back in the Black to Same Level of Last Year!

Fujifilm Fiscal Year 2020/3 Results

The results for the third quarter of the fiscal year 2020 have now been published by Fujifilm (Q1 report here, Q2 report here). FYI, the fiscal year in Japan starts on April 1 and ends on March 31.

It’s a year devasted by COVID-19, hence also Fujifilm suffered in some areas. But there are also good news. Let’s go with order.

The biggest hit in the imaging division has been taken by broadcast and cinema lenses. Not really a surprise, given many big events being canceled, such as the Toyko 2020 Summer Olympics.

Good news comes from the X series, where “firm sales” of the Fujifilm X-T4 and Fujifilm X-S10 allowed revenue for the third quarter to recover to the same level of last year.

A pity Fujifilm is still not able to decently ship the Fujinon XF50mm f/1.0, which still is mostly back-ordered. If they’d been able to match the initial high demand for that lens, that could have shown up with even better numbers.

Crossing fingers the same shipping-desaster won’t happen with the Fujifilm GFX100S and Fujinon GF80mmF1.7, as they also enjoy an astonishing high amount of pre-orders, and if Fujifilm will be able to deliver within March, then they will have decent imaging division figures to show for the end of the fiscal year compared to other brands (Fujifilm manager already hinted they are doing better than the rest).

The instax system keeps going strong.
