Apple Adds RAW Support for More Fujifilm Cameras Including Fujifilm X-T4 and X-S10 with MacOS Big Sur and iPadOS 14.5

FR-reader Moritz made me notice on Twitter here, that a couple of weeks ago MacOS Big Sur added uncompressed RAW support for additional Fujifilm cameras.

This means you can now edit RAW files from Fujifilm X-T4, X-S10 and more in all major image editing apps on iPad as well as apps on macOS that use the RAW engine provided by iOS (Apple Core Image RAW), such as Affinity Photo or one of my favorites, RAW Power.

Sadly not yet supported are the Fujifilm GFX100S and the original GFX100. Also the Fujifilm X-E4 is not yet included.

Down below you can find the fill list of currently supported X and GFX cameras.

IT IS OVER: Fujifilm X-E4 is Fuji’s Last X-Trans IV Camera

It’s over!

Not only the Fujifilm X-E4 will be the last X series camera to come this year, but according to our sources it will also be the last one to feature the excellent X-Trans IV sensor!

The 26MP X-Trans IV sensor was used first on the Fujifilm X-T3, followed by the X-T30, X-Pro3, X100V, X-T4, X-S10 and last but not least the X-E4.

It’s still a great sensor with top-notch technology. Backside illuminated, full phase detection coverage, copper wiring for faster sensor readout. It’s the same technology we find in flagship cameras of other brands such as the Sony Alpha a7R IV.

And the future?

Fujifilm managers already hinted multiple times like in this interview and also here, that the future will bring more megapixel to the X series.

Which sensor technology will be used? Will it really be that 43 Megapixel 8K stacked BSI sensor?

Questions, riddles and enigmas that FujiRumors is trying to answer for you.

All I can say for now is that, after an explosive start in 2021, Fuji’s current quietness is only apparent. Behind the scenes great things are planed, and if you’d like to get a secret glimpse into them, following FujiRumors is the way to go.

Fujifilm Fiscal Year 2020 Financial Results: Income Down 37.8%, but Great Recovery thanks to X-S10 and GFX100S, No Mention of X-T4

Fujifilm has published its financial results for Fiscal Year 2020 (from April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021).

So how did Fujifilm perform in the year of the COVID-19 pandemic?

In a nutshell:

  • Instax is going strong
  • broadcasting and cinema lenses suffered most due to cancellation of events (such as the Olympic games) caused by the Coronavirus pandemic
  • Fujifilm X and GFX series had a tough start but recovered greatly later in the year thanks to the Fujifilm X-S10, Fujifilm GFX100S and GF80mm F1.7 R WR, allowing a year-over-year increase in the second-half revenue

For the imaging solution, this translated in an operating income that amounted to ¥15.6 billion (down 37.8% year-over-year).

It is curious they do not mention the Fujifilm X-T4 in their reports, which hit the market in spring 2020. Maybe it’s the camera that suffered most from the pandemic, as it was released right when the pandemic started, factories were shutting down and there was the biggest uncertainty on how the pandemic would evolve.

And once the situation was getting more clear and better, Fujifilm had already a mini X-T4 on the market, the X-S10, which was smaller, more affordable, mainstream ergonomic choices and IBIS, making it probably a top pick over the X-T4 for many. Plus the X-T3 saw some substantial rebates, so if you don’t need IBIS and hate selfie screens, the X-T3 was still the better choice.

This time the bad timing was definitely not Fuji’s fault (as opposed to the X-H1 and X-T3 release timing), but mere bad luck.

Fujifilm X-H2 with 8K DCI/UHD Video Coming 2022

As FujiRumors already broke a while ago, the Fujifilm X-H2 will come in 2022.

Of course I am investigating deeper, but today I’d like to share a rumor that has been reported to me by an anoymous source, that contacted me via rumor box.

The anonmyous source told me this:

X-H2 will be capable of 8K video recording, both 8K DCI and 8K UHD

Two things first:

  1. thanks to the source for sharing this tidbit with us
  2. if you (the anonymous source) would like, you can contact me again via rumor box and give yourself a nickname, so I can eventually recognize you in future. Also via email is great [fujirumor@gmail.com]

With that said, of course, as any anonmyous rumor, we invite you to take it with a grain of salt.

However, with the Canon EOS R5 and the Sony A1 entering the 8K territory, it’s also safe to assume that the rumor is correct and that Fujifilm will also join the 8K club sooner or later.

The question at this point is if it will be “just” 8K30p like on full frame cameras, or if the Fujifilm X-H2, thanks to its smaller sensor and hence faster sensor readout, will top them all maybe by offering 8K60p.

Because that’s what happened with the Fujifilm X-T3, which was launched with 4K60p and full frame needed lots of time to finally catch up with the X-T3 specs.

Maybe (speculation, not rumor!!!) the Fujifilm X-H2 will push the boundries of mirrorless video feature even more, stepping ahead of all competitors, just as the X-T3 did back in 2018, when it offered 4K60P long before any full frame camera could do that.

In case I hear anything in this regard, I will let you know here on FujiRumors.

Once or twice a year, we like to share a little curiosity roundup, looking at famous people who shoot Fujifilm or to look at ads or movies where Fujifilm cameras pop up.

Today we have a few additions, starting with the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, who also shoots Fujifilm, more precisely a nice silver vintage Fujifilm X-T3, as you can see on instagram here. She joins other royals like the King of Sweden.

But maybe we guys should start a gofundme campaign to buy her a new sync conncetion cover ;)

And since we talk curiosities….

The Leica Store in Germany filmed their Leica Q2 Monochrom presentation with a Fujifilm camera (see video below).
